 The films of Tim Burton shine through the muck like a jack-o-lantern on a foggy October night. After such successes as The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands, it should come as no surprise that Sleepy Hollow is a dazzling film, a delicious reworking of Washington Irving's The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Dark and moody, the film is a thrilling ride back to the turn of the 19th century. Johnny Depp stars as Ichabod Crane, a seemingly hapless constable from New York City who is sent to the small town of Sleepy Hollow to solve the mystery of the decapitations that are plaguing the town. Crane is a bumbling sort, with a tremendous faith in science over mysticism, and he comes up against town secrets, bewitching women, and a number of bodies missing heads. Christina Ricci, as beautiful as ever, is Katrina Van Tassel, the offbeat love interest who alternately charms and frightens Crane. The film, while occasionally gory (as one should expect from a movie about a headless horseman), is not terribly frightening, although it is suspenseful. Both Depp and Ricci are convincing, and the art direction and production values give the village its harsh feel. Toward the end, once the secrets are revealed, the film does slow down; however, this stylistic horror film provides many tricks and even more treats. Sleepy Hollow had been in development since 1994 and was originally intended to be directed by Kevin Yagher. The film labored into development far enough for Burton, who had unsuccessfully worked on Superman Lives, to direct. The majority of the filming took place in England where the crew built an entire soundstage. Southbound traffic along Highway 1 in Big Sur will be restricted south of the Carmel Highlands starting at 4 a.m., and northbound traffic will be closed from Big Sur at 6:15 a.m. Highway 1 southbound to Rio Road will be closed at Carmel Valley Road at 6:15 a.m. All roads will reopen at 1 p.m. For those on the Peninsula needing to head south, caravans will leave from the Crossroads Shopping Village at 8:45 a.m. and at 11 a.m. For Big Sur residents and travelers from the south, caravans will leave from Big Sur at 7:20 a.m., from Pt. Sur at 9:50 a.m. and from Palo Colorado at 11:55 a.m. The Big Sur International Marathon, however, is not just about the 26.2-mile race. Additional events include a marathon relay and varying distances of 21, 10.6 and 9 miles, plus a 5K. A kids 3K race, held Saturday on the Monterey Peninsula, and a two-day Health & Fitness Expo with running related vendors and race clinics precede the race on Friday and Saturday. For the last three, I have woken up at 4 am and hopped on the press truck to photograph what Runner's World calls the third best marathon in the country as thousands of people slam pavement along the beautiful ocean-scapes of Highway 1 in Big Sur. All in all, it is a fun assignment, even the part that includes riding in the bitter cold in the open bed of the press truck to the start line at 5:30am at 50 mph. Kind of cold. I based this order on my 2010 NFL Power Rankings, and took only my projected 2010 NFL Draft first-round picks into account when making these selections. Click here for my 2010 NFL Mock Draft. 1. Tampa Bay Bucs AJ Green, WR, Georgia Extremely talented receiver that we feel is the top of the outstanding WR Class in this 2011 NFL Mock Draft. Josh Freeman will adore him. 2. St. Louis Rams Julio Jones, WR, Alabama After addressing the QB position in 2010, the Rams will need another threat to pair with Donnie Avery. Julio Jones, of the freak WR build, is the man to provide it. 3. San Francisco 49ers Robert Quinn, DE, North Carolina Bolstering an improving defense upfront would go a long way to helping out the young DB's.  We like the interest of the internet users nowadays is the logo-changing activity of the largest search engine in the world. From 'Topeka' last April Fools day to the recent Hubble Space Telescope yesterday, Google is obviously celebrating the US and world holidays extra special by changing it's logo. Do you remember the first (I'm not sure if it's really the first) 'moving' Google doodle? Well, it happened January 4th of this year. Google, together with billions of Google users celebrated the birthday of the father of Gravity, Sir Isaac Newton. The doodle was simple, Google in a tree, then an apple falls when you finally move the cursor, amazing! Google has had several logos since its renaming from "BackRub". The current official Google pop logo was designed by Ruth Kedar, and is a wordmark based on the Catull typeface. The company also includes various modifications and/or humorous features, such as cartoon modifications, of their logo for use on holidays, birthdays of famous people, and major events, such as the Olympics. These special logos, some designed by Dennis Hwang, have become known as Google Doodles. As of 21 March 2010, Google's own gallery features 770 logos. Lopez leads the team of Google Doodle designers, four artists whose work is seen not only on Google's American website, but on Google home pages for more than 100 countries around the world. Ryan Germick was creating the Doodle that appeared on Google's British website Friday - St. George's Day, honoring the dragon-slaying knight. "St. George's day is important," Germich said. "My father's name is George. So, you know, that's a little special personal interest to me." Jennifer Hom is working on a Doodle for Google's Czech website. "It's the birthday of Komensky; he was an educator in the Czech Republic," she said. Susie Sahim is creating a doodle for the Google home page in Spain for the birthday of a renowned naturalist. "His name is Felix Rodriguez de la Fuente," Sahim said. "So the sun is creating the O. And the two wolves together make the G. And his body much more vertical, making the L." That was 1998, when the two moguls were just starting Google. Since then, dozens of "doodles" have popped up on the home page to celebrate everything from Thanksgiving and Halloween to the birthdays of Charles Darwin and Andy Warhol, World Water Day, the launch of the Large Hadron Collider and the opening of the Olympic Games.
