 Shelby Lynne (born Shelby Lynn Moorer, October 22, 1968, Quantico, Virginia) is an American singer, songwriter and actress. We called country singer Shelby Lynne 's publicist to ask whether her client will announce her gayness the cover of People on May 5. "I don't have any information on that." How can a publicist not know the answer to that? More "Rains Came," the album's first song and lead single, came about in an equally organic fashion, inspired by a rare storm in the Southern California desert where she resides. As the rain fell one Sunday morning, Lynne, who misses the Southern rainstorms of her Alabama childhood tremendously, resisted the impulse to go outside and stand in it and grabbed a pen instead. The resulting song, with Randy Leago on horns and Val McCallum on guitar, is perhaps the sunniest sounding one ever written about having the blues. "The dark side of me seems to like how it feels when it's pouring," she sings with unabashed exuberance. Like "Something To Be Said," her ode to the iconic Airstream trailer, it's a song that might not have made the album if her collaborators hadn't encouraged her to "give it a whirl." After failing to reach agreement with Lost Highway about how her new album should be recorded, Shelby Lynne walked out again. The result is the first album on her own label, Tears, Lies, and Alibis (Everso Records). Full control comes with a lot of responsibility. There's no one else to blame if the work comes up short. Fortunately, there's no need to worry about that. The new album is another in a line of powerful personal statements from this artist. The recording of Tears, Lies, and Alibis began with vocals, guitars, and harmonies recorded in Lynne's home studio in the California desert. After adding some overdubs, the project moved to Nashville. Lynne numbers some wonderful musicians among her friends, and the contributors include such A-List players as guitarist John Jackson, drummer Bryan Owings, and a couple of the Muscle Shoals Swampers – bass player David Hood, and keyboard player Spooner Oldham. ongwriting has often exuded an easygoing, laidback vibe, and that tone carries over to the generally light hand she shows at the soundboard on Tears. Her to-the-point acoustic guitar licks dominate the record and reflect the at-home origins of the songs, but she adds some effective flourishes, such as a clarinet on opener "Rains Came" and Hammond organ courtesy of Spooner Oldham on "Why Didn't You Call Me," to give the album a sense of depth. Her production instincts are spot-on, never overindulging in the freedom afforded by her role as the producer. Unfortunately, Lynne's songwriting isn't as sharp here as it has been on records like Suit Yourself and Identity Crisis. "Call" is one of the standouts and wouldn't have been out of place on her Dusty Springfield album. "Family Tree" surprises for its vitriol, but nearly four straight minutes of rhyming couplets like "I'm sick and tired of throwing stones/'Cause all that leaves is broken bones" quickly becomes tiresome. The premise of "Loser Dreamer," about relationships that never quite get off the ground, is more interesting than its actual execution, with a hook that Lynne attempts to shoehorn into the song's meter. She extols the virtues of life in an Airstream trailer on "Something to Be Said," but Miranda Lambert covered that territory better on "Airstream Song." Ultimately, most of these songs are adequate and work well enough together, but they lack Lynne's usual wit and spark. tags: shelby lynne  | ||

 Police sources report Lopez's death is being investigated as an apparent suicide. Bach, who is best-known for her role as Daisy Duke on TV series "The Dukes of Hazzard," married Lopez in 1990. Peter Lopez, the husband of "Dukes of Hazzard" actress Catherine Bach, was found dead on the front lawn of the couple's Encino home Friday morning, KTLA reports. [Updated at 3:50 p.m.: Police told RadarOnline that the body was found in the backyard. The site quoted an officer on the scene as saying there was no evidence of foul play.] Paramedics responded to a report of a shooting at Lopez's home in Encino at around 11:30 AM. Cops tell TMZ his death is being investigated as an apparent suicide. "At 11.30 this morning officers received a call," Officer Cleon Joseph said.  Rachel Alexandra (foaled January 29, 2006 in Kentucky) is a currently active American Thoroughbred filly racehorse and the 2009 Horse of the Year winner. She came to fame on May 16, 2009 when she became the first filly in 85 years (since Nellie Morse in 1924) to win the Preakness Stakes. She has won races in six states (KY, LA, AR, MD, NY, and NJ.), on 8 different tracks, against fillies and top colts and older horses, achieving a long string of consecutive wins including many Grade 1 stakes races. She has broken or come close to the stakes and/or track records in many of her races, as well as broken records for largest winning margins. Then the gates popped open, and the good times this town is known for did not exactly roll. In fact, by the time the race was over, horseplayers and horse lovers alike were forlorn.  Vera Baker is a former political fundraiser. With Muthoni Wambu, she founded Baker Wambu & Associates in 2000. According to The Politico, Baker's organization became a top fundraising firm for the Congressional Black Caucus. Baker was the Finance Director for Barack Obama's 2004 Illinois Senate campaign and was identified by The American Prospect as one of the "rare" African-American major fundraisers. She also served as the Deputy Political Director at the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee. Vera Baker has nothing to say (except "Please don't hurt me, Michelle!") No, she didn't actually cry out in fear of the First Lady. But Vera Baker did share a close relationship with Barack Obama during the campaign. Most of the talk indicates that it was a professional relationship, but the slash and burn of Obama-flirt simply won't go away. The book's author indicates that Vera Baker's interaction with Barack was "more than just the random flirting from strangers," and that Michelle was indeed upset about it. If cold stares were bullets, Barack would have needed the kind of protective glass you find at a payday loan store to protect him from Michelle at the time. The attractive Vera caught Obama's eye, and they were some sort of bond between them, much to Michelle's displeasure. In any campaign, this is a common occurrence, however Obama also showed some interest in her that had Michelle worried. On papers, Vera was supposedly, Obama's Finance Director for his 2004 Senate campaign. FEC Senate campaign records show she was paid a handsome amount as "Finance Director". The allegations were initially circulated in August, just two weeks before the convention at which Obama finally beat his opponent for the Democratic Party nomination, Hillary Clinton.  Just in case you didn't know, those who picked up a copy of the newly released Halo 3:ODST will receive an exclusive code for the upcoming beta for Halo: Reach, the future Bungie-developed game. As reported from DeviceMag, Halo: Reach has yet to be given an official release date by Bungie, and not much details are known as of yet. Codes will be posted randomly throughout the day, with a total of 10 codes being posted each day (5 on our Facebook page and 5 on our Twitter page). There will be no rhyme or reason to the times selected; codes will pop up when they pop up. Each code posted to Facebook and Twitter will be missing one of the 25 characters needed for its activation. The first person to correctly enter the code into Xbox Live by guessing the missing character will have access to the Halo: Reach Multiplayer beta. Each code can only be activated once, so as soon as it is claimed, it will not be available for use by any other person–once a code is claimed, it is gone. American actress Amy Pietz was born on March 6, 1969 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Adopted by her parents, she originally trained as a ballet dancer. She, however, went on to study at the Milwaukee High School of the Arts, and later at the DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. She made her acting debut in 1992, playing a small role in the television series Highlander. She gained wide recognition, however, in 1995, when she signed on for the television comedy Caroline in the City. She played the role of Annie Spadaro, the across-the-hall neighbor of Caroline Duffy (Lea Thompson), who is known for her promiscuity and her outrageous outfits. She was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award for her role in 1999. Pietz — best known from her supporting stints on Caroline in the City, Aliens in America, and Rodney — will first air in April and… um… er… that's pretty much all I can tell you at this point. Suffice it to say her character description is laced with more than a few spoilers. Of course, don't let that stop you from speculating in the comments. Also, feel free to echo my sentiments re: Pietz (and please explain to me why she isn't a bigger star). Best known for her portrayal of Annie, the rather promiscuous neighbor on the popular sitcom "Caroline in the City," Amy Pietz received a 1998 Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Best Actress in a Comedy. Other television credits include a regular role on "The Webster Show" and "Muscle," as well as a recurring character on "Ally McBeal." Her most recent role in 2006 has been on ABC's "Rodney" where she plays Charlie.
