Earth Day Keep The Earth Safe By All Damages

Posted: 21 Apr 2010 07:23 PM PDT

Earth Day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth's environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental teach-in held on April 22, 1970. Earth Day is celebrated in spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. Many communities celebrate Earth Week, an entire week of activities focused on environmental issues. The first Earth Week originated in Philadelphia in 1970 (starting April 16 and culminating on Earth Day, April 22.) Earth Day Network, a group that wishes to become the coordinator of Earth Day globally, asserts that Earth Day is now observed on April 22 on virtually every country on Earth. World Environment Day, celebrated on June 5 in a different nation every year, is the principal United Nations environmental observance.

Earth Day 2010 can be a turning point to advance climate policy, energy efficiency, renewable energy and green jobs. Earth Day Network is galvanizing millions who make personal commitments to sustainability. Earth Day 2010 is a pivotal opportunity for individuals, corporations and governments to join together and create a global green economy. Join the more than one billion people in 190 countries that are taking action for Earth Day.

Celebrations of Earth Day are in full tilt. Expos, music, sustainable cooking, green building demos, plantings, and clean-ups are going on all around the globe through the end of the week to celebrate our planet. If you're interested in hanging with other treehuggers for some fun, learning, or service, visit Earth Day Network for an extensive listing of activities across the United States, along with a few international listings. Here's a listing of a few of the many activities happening across the country:

New Haven, Connecticut: Earth Day Family Camping - Pre-register for this two-day event running from April 22-April 23rd. In addition to the usual campfire and roasted marshmallows, an optional guided hike is offered and a breakfast including eggs from Common Ground's farm.

Denver, Colorado: Earth Day at Red Rocks features the music of Oregon's Aspen Meadow, showings from W.O.L.F. Sanctuary, a park clean-up event and displays from environmental organizations.

Wilmington, Delaware: This Earth Day Celebration takes place outdoors in downtown Wilmington and features "green" vendors offering conservation tips and a variety of products. You'll have an opportunity to learn about hybrid cars, earth-friendly gardening, and more.

Miami, Florida: Miami Going Green is a free, family-friendly event packed with entertainment, displays (including a solar powered Wii), and special offers.

Fairfield, Iowa: "Building Sustainable Communities" is the focus of this year's Mum Ecofair. Featured will be nationally and internationally known speakers and workshops in the field of sustainable living. This fair includes a self-organizing "unconference" on the topic "Creating Sustainable Communities Where You Live" and the EcoJam Fashion Show.

Manhattan, Kansas: Celebrate Earth Day at Sunset Zoo with the music of Top Chapin (brother of Harry) and some local favorites. Fun activities are a part of this celebration and rain barrels will be given away on a first come, first serve basis.

It's a nearly unbelievable fact: Indoor air is often more polluted than outdoor air. Toxins like radon, carbon monoxide, mold, and gasoline shuffled in on shoes are all culprits. But another guilty party? Yep, cleaning products. According to the Clean Water Fund, the average U.S. household uses 40 pounds each year of harmful cleaning products, which can cause allergies, headaches, and more.

Ironically, cleaning products aren't required to disclose their ingredients, but those big, bold "danger", "warning" and "caution" labels might say enough. To be safe, why not switch to a couple eco-friendly grime-busters this spring? Thanks to the boom in "green" living, there are now a number of great products on the market. To help you narrow the search, we did the testing!

Public Review Of New 100 Dollar Bill Current Report

Posted: 21 Apr 2010 12:28 PM PDT

Well the Report For the new 100 Dollar Bill is now spread to all media and over internet letting the people attention grabs so we have Plan a review Section where we go out and ask people about the new bill of 100 dollar and you can also give your reviews and knowledge by Comment.

The U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Federal Reserve Board, and the United States Secret Service designed the new bill to keep American money safe from illegal manufacture. As the highest unit of paper currency in the U.S., the $100 bill correspondingly carries the highest level of security features.

"As with previous U.S. currency redesigns, this note incorporates the best technology available to ensure we're staying ahead of counterfeiters," said Secretary of the Treasury Tim Geithner on newmoney.gov.

A prestigious video on www.newmoney.gov shows a virtual copy of the new $100 bill highlighting its newest security features. The bill may have some new additions but the U.S. Treasury has maintained a sense of tradition and the old $100 bills are still good to use.

"When the new design $100 note is issued in TBD, the approximately 6.5 billion old design $100s already in circulation will remain legal tender. U.S. currency users should know they will not have to trade in their old design notes when the new notes begin circulating," stated Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board Ben S. Bernanke.

by Mark Silva

You will have until Feb. 10 to spend your existing pile of 100's -- though they will still work. That's when the new $100 bill, the last of the nation's paper currency in general circulation to undergo an overhaul, will make its debut.

"We estimate that as many as two-thirds of all $100 notes circulate outside the United States," says Federal Reserve Chairman BenBernanke, whonotes that the $6.5 billion in $100 bills already in circulation will remain legal tender.

The changes are aimed at thwarting counterfeiters -- the $100 bill being the most frequent target of counterfeiters operating outside of the United States. The $20 bill is the choice target at home. It, too, has been redesigned.

By The Associated Press

"We wanted the changes to be very obvious, visible and easy to see," Larry Felix, director of the Bureau of Engraving and Printing, said in an interview with The Associated Press.

The new blue security ribbon will give a 3-D effect to the micro-images that the thousands of lenses will be magnifying. Tilt the note back and forth and you will see tiny bells on the ribbon change to 100s as they move.

But that's not all. Tilt the note back and forth and the images will move side to side. Tilt the note side to side and the images will move up and down.

In addition, to the left of Franklin's portrait, will be an inkwell that will change color from copper to green when the note is tilted. The movement will also make a Liberty Bell appear and disappear inside the inkwell.

"As with previous U.S. currency redesigns, this note incorporates the best technology available to ensure we're staying ahead of counterfeiters," Geithner said.

By John Fernandez

According to the reports, the new bill's security features include a blue 3-D Security Ribbon on the front of the note that contains images of bells and 100s, which move and change from one to the other as tilt the note. The back of the bill is has a very large vertical "100" along the right side. The $100 bill is the highest value denomination in general circulation in the United States.

BY Claire

The new look of the 100 dollar bill will have the time clock showing approximately 4:10, according to the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing. There is a little catch: the numeral of 4 is written as 'IV' whereas, at the Independence Hall Clock, it is written as 'IIII.' The new 100 dollar bill has unique security features including a blue 3-D Security Ribbon on the front of the note that contains images of bells and 100s, which move and change from one to the other as you tilt the note.

These Are All the Reviews Of Different People Of Different Organization You Can Give Yours too and we Will Surely Include That Here just Let us Know By Comments.

Meri Dilli Meri Yamuna Key Facts Report

Posted: 21 Apr 2010 11:33 AM PDT

Meri Dilli Meri Yamuna is an initiative to save the river Yamuna. Delhi is located on the banks of Yamuna river and it is a major part of the Delhi city but the river water is getting polluted. Everyday more than 3.6 billion tonnes of sewerage is dumped untreated into the river. Yamuna provides more than 60% of the water used by people in Delhi. Numerous attempts have been made previously but they were not very successful.

Meri Dilli Meri Yamuna is a project for making a difference to our city of Delhi-NCR. What started as an initiative of The Art of Living, has now become a full blown citizen's action plan. Dozens of civil society groups have already joined the movement and many companies including Microsoft, Educomp and Kent RO have become partners. The UNESCO, World Bank, JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) etc. among many others are already on board the campaign and more and more people and groups are joining every day.

Delhi-NCR is not clean – India is at the centre of the world today, poised for global leadership in future – we can't remain dirty, something needs to happen. Commonwealth Games are in October, and it would be great to present a clean city to the world.

Yamuna is very important for the socio-economic, ecological needs of the Delhi-NCR region. After rapid industralization of this region over the years, it has become one of the most endangered waterways in India. Do you know that more than half of 3.6 billion tonnes of sewerage produced in Delhi everyday flows into Yamuna untreated? So I think Meri Dilli Meri Yamuna project is a ray of hope for this ancient river. Let's support this campaign and make Delhi region a better place to live in.

Key Facts

The river Yamuna supports the water needs of nearly 60 million people. Delhi alone depends on it for 60% of its drinking water

However, Yamuna that holds not only mythological but also historical significance to the country, is today in a pathetic state and its water is unfit for bathing, leave alone consumption

The national capital is a major culprit in the pollution of the Yamuna, accounting for about 79% of the total waste water that is poured into the river by the major towns along its banks
While 60% of Delhi's water needs are fulfilled by Yamuna, almost the same percentage of the city's sewage finds its way into the river

New Delhi alone produces 3.6 billion liters of sewage every day but due to poor management less than half is effectively treated. The remaining untreated waste is dumped into the Yamuna river
According to the Central Pollution Control Board, around 70% of the pollution in the Yamuna is human excrement

The effect: Severe shortages of water, with 40% of Delhi receiving only 14-20 liters a day. For reference, 14-20 liters is the water spent with every flush of the toilet

The Meri Dilli Meri Yamuna campaign is organizing an event on March 7, 2010 16th March, 2010 at 5 pm at Purana Qila in Delhi where the citizens and leaders from all sectors and areas would be participating. This will be followed by a massive cleaning of the banks of Yamuna on March 14 by the citizens to demonstrate that 'it is possible to make a difference'.

The campaign invites all to support our initiative of national importance, which would perhaps be an inflection point for India – the citizens coming out and taking responsibility for their surroundings and this would spur the administration to be more effective too. Let us all join hands.

Watch cricket highlights: Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bangalore 1st Semi-Final IPL (2010), played at Mumbai on April 21, 2010.

With teams being set up for semis the first semifinals of the IPL 3 will be between MI and RCB on Wednesday, April 21, 2010 at D.Y Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. The bomb threats in Bangalore forced IPL management to shift the venue to Navi Mumbai.

The first semifinal between MI and RCB promises some exciting action. Both teams will try their best to seize the opportunity and outwit each other. Mumbai Indians are lucky enough, as the semifinal was shifted from Bangalore to Navi Mumbai due to security concerns. They will have the advantage of playing at home.

Team News

Mumbai rested a number of players for their dead rubber match against Kolkata, so expect to see many changes from that game. Tendulkar, Kieron Pollard, Harbhajan Singh, Lasith Malinga and Zaheer Khan will all come back in, while Dwayne Bravo will likely be the most high-profile overseas player to miss out.

On the other hand RCB will consider itself lucky to find them in the semis. They must have been biting nails until KKRs scored their final run. It is just the net run rate that has seen them through and Kallis, Uthappa and KP are those that helped the team score fast runs and have decent run rate every time whether they won or lost.

Royal Challengers Bangalore also have good team with strong bench strength as Kallis giving good start followed by Kevin Pietersen, Dravid, Ross Taylor and Virat Kohli and in the end hard Uthappa is there to boost the total. Vinay and Praveen Kumar doing well along with captain Kumble.

Dancing With The Stars Elimination Kate Gosselin Eliminated April 20

Posted: 21 Apr 2010 11:21 AM PDT

After choking down most her tears, Gosselin said she was thankful for the opportunity given to her by DWTS. "I'm very, very honored to have been here. I love everyone that I met. It was a great experience, and I'm sorry I'm crying. I'm a crybaby!"

The theme was Movie night — each couple's dance is to an iconic song from the movies. Kate Gosselin & Tony Dovolani performed on "Don't You (Forget About Me)"—The Breakfast Club.

Many people were shocked, many were surprised and a lot many had expected the elimination. The elimination of Dancing with the Stars April 20 was all fate.
After the show, Kate Gosselin was very depressed with the remarks of Judge Bruno Tonioli on her dance performance. Accordingly, the said judge told her partner Tony Dovolani that he would have been better off dancing with "a coat hanger." A tearful and emotional Kate Gosselin told Tom and co-host Brooke Burke, "I need a minute."

From the very first week, Kate Gosselin was criticized by the judges of "Dancing With the Stars". She took the remarks on face and tried to put her best efforts to make an impression on the judges but never succeeded. She had remained one of the steady under performers in the show. However, after the elimination Kate Gosselin thanked the viewers for their support.

Reports suggested that she was not happy with the American Idol host Ryan Seacrest who shared a tale of how he coaxed the homesick frontrunner back to the show after she threatened to quit earlier this month.

Though the judges gave a half score of both of them, it looks like the judges are still nice to give Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani a score of 15 out of 30.

There will be more updates about this Dancing with the Stars Elimination April 20: Kate Gosselin Eliminated. Stay tuned.

Northern Belle Guide and Boat Sink Report

Posted: 21 Apr 2010 11:14 AM PDT

Northern Belle was an American transatlantic ship which ran aground near Thanet, England on January 5, 1857. No lives were lost, thanks to heroic rescue efforts.

The 'Northern Belle' set out from New York crossing the Atlantic only to run into trouble at Thanet, so close to its destination of London. At 3 am, on a bitter cold morning it became apparent that a ship was in some peril in local waters near the little harbour of Broadstairs.
The ship had been cast ashore on a dangerous ledge of rocks below the Foreness Point, at Kingsgate, between Broadstairs and the coast of Margate. On seeing the plight of the Northern Belle's crew, the Coastguard had sent warning to Broadstairs, and so despite the awful conditions prevailing, the Mary White and Culmer White lifeboats were hauled overland by horse drawn trailer, against the blizzard, to a point where they could be safely launched.

According to KTUU-TV, a Seattle-based fishing vessel, Northern Belle, sunk Tuesday afternoon in the Gulf of Alaska about 50 miles south of Montague Island. The crew sent out a mayday and abandoned ship in survival suits before the vessel finally sunk. A Coast Guard cutter and two aircraft responded, but a doctor at Cordova's medical center says the boat's four crew members were in the water for at least two hours before being rescued. One of the four died, but the cause of death is unclear at this time -- likely either hypothermia or a head trauma which was sustained upon exiting the vessel.

It was a busy night for the Coast Guard. Rescuers also received a call around 8 p.m. from the Sea Fisher, a 270-foot fish processor in the Bering Sea, to assist a crewmember who had been diagnosed via a land-based medical consultation as having potentially life-threatening internal bleeding.

The vessel requested a medevac at 9:30 p.m. A Jayhawk MH-60 left the Cold Bay station and was expected to rendezvous with the Sea Fisher about 100 nautical miles north of Dutch Harbor. The copter was then expected transport the crew member to Dutch Harbor. Mosely said the helicopter and patient were expected to arrive at Dutch Harbor around midnight. The crew member's condition was unknown at last report.

The Northern Belle carriages of the Orient Express evoke this very essence of gallant adventure; a reflection of the classic 'Belle' trains of the 1930s that entranced and inspired as they traversed all corners of the British Isles.

This 'Orient-Express of the North' is the first classic train of the new century, providing the ultimate in stylish and enjoyable day and weekend breaks throughout Britain from Manchester, Liverpool and York.

The ultimate journey on board the Northern Belle must be the Great British Orient Express Tour that will take you on a leisurely itinerary across the diverse rural landscape to visit the historic cities of England, Wales and Scotland. Staying overnight in luxury hotels en-route, you will stop off in York, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Oban, the Isle of Mull, Yorkshire, Chester, Wales, Bath, Salisbury and back to London.

For those who wish to relive the style and atmosphere of the original railway journeys of the 1920s and 30s period, there are several journeys on board the Northern Belle with the added experience of the Flying Scotsman steam locomotive.

New 100 Dollar Bill With The Fake Report

Posted: 21 Apr 2010 11:05 AM PDT

The United States one hundred-dollar bill ($100) is a denomination of United States currency. U.S. statesman, inventor, and diplomat Benjamin Franklin is currently featured on the obverse of the bill. On the reverse of the banknote is an image of Independence Hall. The time on the clock according to the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, shows approximately 4:10. The numeral four on the clock face is incorrectly written as "IV" whereas the real Independence Hall clock face has "IIII". (See Roman Numerals in Clocks.) The bill is one of two current notes that does not feature a President of the United States; the other is the United States ten-dollar bill, featuring Alexander Hamilton. It is the largest denomination that has been in circulation since July 14, 1969, when the higher denominations of $500, $1,000, $5,000, $10,000 and $100,000 were retired. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing says the average life of a $100 bill in circulation is 60 months (5 years) before it is replaced due to wear. Approximately 7% of all notes produced today are $100 bills.

A new 100 dollar bill is going to be introduced in United States. This will be released in next month.

Treasury department told on Friday that on account of ongoing counterfeit threats, it has been decided to redesign the currency. The department told it may stop the ongoing fraud.

New look of this 100 dollar bill will be unveiled by Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke on April 21 in some grand ceremony.

The folks who print America's money have designed a high-tech makeover of the $100 bill. It's part of an effort to stay ahead of counterfeiters as technology becomes more sophisticated and more dollars flow overseas, Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke says.

The makeover, unveiled Wednesday by Bernanke and Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, may leave people wondering if there's magic involved.

Benjamin Franklin is still on the C-note. But he has been joined by a disappearing Liberty Bell in an inkwell and a bright blue security ribbon composed of thousands of tiny lenses that magnify objects in mysterious ways. Move the bill, and the objects move in a different direction.

So what's new in this new design of the new 100 dollar bill? For security purposes, Federal Reserve added blue 3-D Security Ribbon on the front of the new 100 dollar bill which contains pictures of bells and 100s that move and change from one to the other as you tilt the new $100 bill. In addition, the Bell in the Inkwell on the front of the $100 bill is another new security feature. The bell changes color from copper to green when the $100 bill is tilted.
Furthermore, the back of the new 100 dollar bill has a new vignette of Independence Hall featuring the rear, rather than the front, of the building.

However, there are also features that are retained in the previous $100 bill; the portrait watermark of Benjamin Franklin, the security thread, and the color-shifting numeral 100 which preserves the security feature of the old $100 bill to be replaced.

No one knows the true origins of the Superdollar — such mysteries are, after all, the hallmark of successful counterfeiting. In 2005, the U.S. government accused the North Korean government of forging the phony bill, though some believed that accusation to be founded on "shaky evidence." Pop-conspiracy theories swirl wildly around other candidates — including, but by no means limited to, the Iranian government, Chinese or Russian organized crime outfits, and the CIA.

According to a 2006 New York Times Magazine piece by Stephen Mihm, the government's failure to crack the Superdollar case prompted a 1996 redesign the $100 bill, its first since 1928. That version of the bill featured watermarks as its chief anti-counterfeiting tool. The new bill goes way beyond that, featuring a security thread decades in development: the microprinted mobile image that has inspired all the Harry Potter chatter. When the bill is moved side to side, the image on the bill appears to move up and down, and it's moved up and down, the image appears to move side to side.

The $100 dollar bill redesign was originally slated to take place in 2008, however, the government wanted to hone its security features with the latest technologies. Among the chief changes are a new blue security ribbon that when looked at under a microscope will be 3-D-- the images on the ribbon will also change from tiny bells to 100s when moving the note – moreover, all the images will move side to side and up and down when moved accordingly.

Other security elements on the new $100 dollar bill include:

• a color changing inkwell left of Franklin's portrait
• a disappearing Liberty Bell
• a portrait watermark of Franklin
• the security thread
• the color-shifting numeral 100

The latter three security features are ones that were implemented in previous redesigns.

Currently 6.5 billion $100 notes are in circulation, two-thirds of which are estimated to be overseas. These notes will continue to remain legal tender according to Fed Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke.

Administrative Professionals Day 2010 Secretary Report

Posted: 21 Apr 2010 06:47 AM PDT

What do people do?

Administrative Professionals Day and Administrative Professionals Week are widely observed in many workplaces in the United States and other countries around the world. Many employers and supervisors arrange events to show their appreciation of the work carried out by administrative professionals, to highlight their importance to the organization and to enhance their work-related skills.

Public life

Administrative Professionals Day is an observance but it is not a public holiday in the United States.

Background

During World War II, there was an increased need for skilled administrative personnel, particularly in the United States. The National Secretaries Association was formed to recognize the contributions of secretaries and other administrative personnel to the economy, to support their personal development and to help attract people to administrative careers in the field. The association's name was changed to Professional Secretaries International in 1981 and, finally, the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) in 1998.

These changes in name reflected the changing nature of the tasks, qualifications and responsibilities of the members of the organization. IAAP now has an international orientation and continues to provide education and training and set standards of excellence recognized by the business community on a global perspective. The organization's vision is "to inspire and equip all administrative professionals to attain excellence".

In the year 2000, IAAP announced a name change for Professional Secretaries Week and Professional Secretaries Day. The names were changed to Administrative Professionals Week and Administrative Professionals Day to keep pace with changing job titles and expanding responsibilities of today's administrative workforce.

Over the years, Administrative Professionals Week has become one of the largest workplace observances. The event is celebrated worldwide, bringing together millions of people for community events, educational seminars and individual corporate activities recognizing support staff.

Today, there are more than 4.1 million secretaries and administrative assistants working in the United States, according to U.S. Department of Labor statistics, and 8.9 million people working in various administrative support roles. More than 475,000 administrative professionals are employed in Canada. Millions more administrative professionals work in offices all over the world.

Also known as "Secretary's Day," this annual observance has its roots in Administrative Professionals Week, which was first held in 1952. It was born in part due to World War II, which led to "an increased need for skilled administrative personnel" in the United States.

A National Secretaries Association became the Professional Secretaries International in 1981 and was renamed the International Association of Administrative Professionals (IAAP) in 1998 to include not just secretaries but others who perform critical administrative tasks.

Today, the title is changing and evolving. But, the recognition is equally important. There are two new terms in use today. They are "Administrative Professionals" and "Executive Admins". The two names sometimes mean different roles and responsibilities to different companies. Both are broader terms, that encompass more positions than the original "Secretary" role.

The name change recognizes and acknowledges that the role has changed significantly since 1952, and for the better at that. And in Harry Klemfuss' day, these postions were the realm of women. Today, you find some males in these positions.

IAAP's logo is a Robinson-type projection of the globe with the letters 'IAAP' on a broad band around the equator. The globe represents the international nature of the association and the letters its name. Each year, this logo is incorporated into an image reflecting the theme of the Administrative Professionals Day and Administrative Professionals Week events. It is sold in the form of a pin as a way of raising funds to help pay the costs of the international conventions organized by the association.

Deepwater Horizon The Rig Destuction By Explosion

Posted: 21 Apr 2010 06:41 AM PDT

Deepwater Horizon was a 5th generation, dynamic positioned (DP) semi-submersible oil rig owned by Transocean. The rig was destroyed by an explosion on April 20, 2010.

Most of the 126 people were believed to have escaped safely after the explosion on the rig Deepwater Horizon at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, Coast Guard Senior Chief Petty Officer Mike O'Berry said. The rig, about 52 miles southeast of Venice on Louisiana's tip, was listing about 10 degrees and still burning Wednesday morning.

"It's burning pretty good and there's no estimate on when the fire will be put out," O'Berry said.

Seven workers were reported critically injured, Coast Guard Lt. Sue Kerver said. Two were taken to a trauma center in Mobile, Ala., where there is a burn unit, but the nature of their injuries was unclear, she said. At least two were taken to a suburban New Orleans hospital.

O'Berry said many workers who escaped the rig were being brought to land on a workboat while authorities searched the Gulf of Mexico for any signs of lifeboats.

Transocean Ltd. has announced that its ultra-deepwater semisubmersible rig Deepwater Horizon recently drilled the deepest oil and gas well ever while working for BP and its co-owners on the Tiber well in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico. Working with BP, the Transocean crews on the Deepwater Horizon drilled the well to 35,050 vertical depth and 35,055 feet measured depth (MD), or more than six miles, while operating in 4,130 feet of water.

These achievements are the latest in Transocean's history of world and other records dating back to the 1950s. In 2005, the ultra-deepwater drillship Discoverer Spirit set the record for the longest Gulf of Mexico oil and gas well at 34,189 feet, MD. Most recently, the Transocean jackup GSF Rig 127 drilled the industry's longest extended-reach well in 2008 while working for Maersk Oil Qatar AS at 40,320 feet MD with a 35,770-foot horizontal section. The well was drilled offshore Qatar in 36 days and was incident-free.

Transocean reports its Emergency and Family Response teams, the US Coast Guard, and oeprator BP Exploration & Production Inc. are responding. The reports says "a substantial majority of the 126 member crew is safe but some crew members remain unaccounted for at this time."
Transocean also holds the current world water-depth record of operating in 10,011 feet of water set while working for Chevron in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico.

Designed originally for R&B Falcon, she was completed in 2001 by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea, after their merger with Transocean. She is the second of two in her class, although her sister ship, the Deepwater Nautilus is not DP.

Since arriving in the Gulf of Mexico, Deepwater Horizon has been under contract to BP Exploration. Her work includes wells in the Atlantis and Thunderhorse fields, a 2006 discovery in the Kaskida field, and the 2009 Tiber oilfield.
