Two of those dead in Choctaw county are children.
Gov. Haley Barbour told The Associated Press there was "utter obliteration" in parts of Yazoo County, an area where he is from. More than 15 other counties were also damaged.
The swath of debris forced rescuers to pick up some of the injured on all-terrain vehicles.
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. Check back soon for further information. AP's earlier story is below.

Tornadoes ripped through the Southeast on Saturday, killing six people in Mississippi and injuring more than a dozen others.

Five of the dead were from Choctaw County, in the north central part of of the state, three were from Yazoo County, north of Jackson, and one was from Holmes County, also in the north central Mississippi, he said.

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, who was in Yazoo City where his home is located, called the twister "gigantic" and said that "in places [it] seemed to be to be several miles wide."
Some residents were trapped in badly damaged homes, he said.

"They're working to get to the people and rescue as many as they can," said Dan Turner, a spokesman for the governor, reporting "significant injuries" in at least three counties.

Governor Haley Barbour said there was "utter obliteration" in Yazoo County, where three died, and he declared a state of emergency in 17 counties.

A church in Yazoo City was flattened and houses reduced to rubble.
Tornados have also been reported in the nearby states of Louisiana, Arkansas and Alabama, with the severe weather reported to be moving eastwards.

Powerlines have been blown down and road are blocked by fallen trees, after a tornado almost a mile (1.6 km) wide, blew through the centre of the state.

The storms will be nasty, chief meteorologist David Hartman said. The Mississippi River counties from Natchez into the Delta has the highest chance of seeing severe storms. Tornadoes are expected to Jackson's west and extreme western Mississippi. The WAPT counties along the Mississippi River, do have a chance of seeing tornadoes.

Friday evening, storms will lift north and die down and there will be a brief break in the severe weather threat, however, Hartman said the chances of scattered showers and thunderstorms remain in the forecast through the overnight hours with gusty winds.

Tim Toone Paid My Own Way

Posted: 24 Apr 2010 06:37 PM PDT

Tim Toone
Timothy Lee Toone (born February 14, 1985) is a wide receiver for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League. He was the Mr. Irrelevant pick of the 2010 NFL Draft. He played college football at Weber State.

Toone has been WSU's big play receiver during his two year career. He's averaged 24.94 YARDS PER RECEPTION with 39 catches for 973 yards and 12 touchdowns. ... His 10 touchdown receptions in 2007 tied him for the second most in a season with Dave Hall (10 in 1991) and was just two away from the WSU season best of 12 TD catches also set in 1991 by tight end Alfred Pupunu. ... Needs just nine more career TD catches to surpass Wade Orton (18: 1984-88) as Weber State's all-time leader. ... Named Honorable Mention All-Big Sky Conference for his 2007 efforts. ... Ran indoor and outdoor track for the Wildcats in 2008. His indoor 60 meter dash time of 7.13 is the 7th best effort in WSU men's indoor track history. ... He posted a 2008 season best long jump of 21-5 1/4 in the outdoor season. ... TEN of his career 39 catches have been for 40 OR MORE YARDS. ... Has tremendous up field vertical speed and quickness.

"I'm just expecting to sign somewhere as a free agent," Toone said last week. "Anything better than that is a bonus. I know a team's going to take a chance and I'm going to work hard and make their team."

Toone will need to be a contributor on special teams to make the Lions' roster, and the highlight of his college career was a 90-yard punt return against Northern Arizona.

Among potential late-rounders, Miami will bring in Weber State's Tim Toone, a skilled returner, and has met with Toledo's Stephen Williams and Louisville's Scott Long. Clemson's 5-9 Jacoby Ford (too small) and fringe prospects Michael Moore (Georgia), Preston Parker (FSU/North Alabama) and Buffalo's Brett Hamlin will work out during the Dolphins' "local day" Friday. - Barry Jackson, The Miami Herald

What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
I am 5'10" officially and I weighed in at 184 pounds. I haven't been timed in the forty yet.

What other sports did you play in high school?
I played soccer and baseball. I think that I could have played baseball in college.

What schools showed interest in you during the recruiting process besides Weber State?
Northern Arizona talked to me. They wanted me to go to their school for two seasons before I left for my mission. I didn't want to do that. Nobody showed too much interest in me because I was leaving on a mission.

Why did you choose Weber State?
I chose them because they offered me and understood that I had to leave on a mission. I paid my own way for one semester and then I left on my mission. When I came back, I was on scholarship after that.
