So were we when Google's chair and chief executive Eric Schmidt played the April Fool prank on its blog readers by announcing that it was changing its name to Topeka Inc. from 1 pm onwards. The name change was done as a return of favor to the city of Kansas, Topeka which changed its name to Google for the month of march to attract investment regarding the fiber-optic broadband network from Google. Eric Schmidt noted the confusion that might arise from the name changes which were happening but assured that this will have no effect on the municipalities which are decided to be chosen for the broadband experiment. Another hoax that was played by Google on the April Fool's day was announcement of a new Google Wave feature which will feature a man in a lab coat designed to wave at you when a new notification arrives. These corporate pranks are not new by Google and is followed suit by many corporate on the Fool's day. |

Paquin did it as a part of a project belonging to Cyndi Lauper's True Colors Fund which has its interest in the fight for gay, bisexual, lesbian and transgender equality. Anna Paquin is not the first celebrity to come out with her sexuality of late. Though it is quite sure that her sexuality comes out as a surprise and was not expected at all. Posted: 01 Apr 2010 10:16 AM PDT  Topeka SAN FRANCISCO –The most popular internet search engine changed its name to "Topeka" to fool its users This prank was inspired by a KANSAS TOWN which had changed its name in March as a part of a US bidding process to become the test haven for the company's experimental super-fast broadband network. “Early last month the mayor of Topeka, Kansas stunned the world by announcing that his city was changing its name to Google,” Google chief executive Eric Schmidt stated in the company blog. “We’ve been wondering ever since how best to honor that moving gesture. “Today we are pleased to announce that as of 1:00 am (central daylight time) April 1st, Google has officially changed our name to Topeka.” Initially it appeared that the change only applied to searches within the United States, as searches initiated elsewhere brought up the normal Google logo. “We didn’t reach this decision lightly; after all, we had a fair amount of brand equity tied up in our old name,” Schmidt added. Google had indeed played an April fool's prank but mayor of Topeka, Kansas was not playing any prank announcing the astonishing move. After the California-based Google pledged to build an experimental super-fast broadband Internet network, it is estimated that over 600 communities across the United States are vying to test the project, Don Ness, the mayor of Duluth, Minnesota too posted a joke video on YouTube declaring that first-born males in Duluth will be named “Google Fiber” and first-born females “Googlette Fiber.” This is to notify that Google had announced in February that one-gigabit-per-second fiber-to-the-home network will be built in “one or more trial locations,” which would serve around 500,000. "Correspondence to corporate headquarters and offices around the world should now be addressed to Topeka Inc.,” but otherwise can be addressed normally." “Google employees once known as ‘Googlers’ should now be referred to as either ‘Topekers’ or ‘Topekans,’ depending on the result of a board meeting that’s ongoing at this hour."
