New Zealand v South Africa ICC T20 Score: SA off to quick start

Posted: 06 May 2010 10:50 AM PDT

Barbados will see the real test today between New Zealand and South Africa for the Super Eights. Where on one side is Vettori's team that defeated Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe on other side is Graeme Smith's boys who may have lost to India and won against Afghanistan but still enjoys the tag of strongest squad.

Barbados has offered a livelier platform and having played all their matches even the practice matches as well New Zealand need to adapt accordingly.

New Zealand must think of adjusting their bowling team or they can also think of giving another chance to the spinner Nathan McCullum who won Man of the Match award in two games, to play with a new ball.

South Africa who easily defeated Afghanistan has bowlers confident enough but still need to check their batting line. Its only Jacques Kallis who has scored centuries in both of his matches but he need to strike boundaries more frequently and other batsmen should also be taken care of.

The circumstances complemented the slow bowlers in Guyana but at Kensington Oval fast bowlers arte needed. Shane Bond may turn out to be the key bowler for New Zealand today.

On the other hand South Africa is counting upon Morne Morkel for his pace and bounce that he displayed against Afghanistan. One more advantage for New Zealand is its batsmen who are more proficient than South Africa in present scenario.

Even after changing of grounds New Zealand’s coach Mark Greatbatch doesn't seem to incorporate much changes in the team.

With relaxed win over Afghanistan South Africa also is in no mood to make any changes nd will probably follow the same batting line-up.

Guyana's pitch is full of pace and bounces giving much chances to fast bowlers. Watch live score during the match and facts about players at this page.

Mr Farage was rushed to the hospital with non-severe injuries after the crash in which pilot also got injured and was airlifted to Walsgrave Hospital.

Mr Farage is undergoing treatment in Horton General Hospital in Banbury.

Mr Farage'splane was towing a banner saying “Vote for your country – Vote Ukip”.

He was further scheduled to fly to Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and Northamptonshire.

The crash is under investigation by AAIB in support of Northamptonshire Police.

Ukip spokesman said: “We’ve had unconfirmed reports that either the banner got snagged up or there were cross-winds and it was unfamiliar airfield to the pilot, who had to be cut out of the plane.”

Mr Farage received “minor head injuries” but directed promoters to “carry on” the campaign.

The plane that underwent a crash was a 1960s-style biplane that left the Winchester area in the morning today to move to Hinton.

The mishap occurred while taking off from Hinton, said the spokesman.

A man who was present there at the time of accident said, “I was in the hangar and suddenly all these ambulances and fire engines went past. I saw the plane take off. All I know is that it was banner-towing for Ukip.”

No permission fees for mobile towers in Gujarat

Posted: 06 May 2010 11:40 AM PDT

Gandhinagar, May 6 (IANS) The Gujarat High Court Thursday ruled that municipal corporations and municipalities in the state could not levy annual permission fee and installation charges on mobile communication towers, as this violated their powers under the constitution and Municipalities Act.

A division bench of Justice D.A. Mehta and Justice H.N. Devani ruled that levy and recovery of annual permission fees and installation charges on mobile telecommunication towers in the areas covered under municipal corporations/municipalities in Gujarat has been struck down ‘as being ultra vires the provisions of Article 265 of the Constitution of India as well as provisions of the Bombay Provincial Municipal Corporation Act, 1949 and the Gujarat Municipalities Act, 1963.’

Bharti Infratel Ltd had challenged the demand note issued by the municipalities and municipal corporations asking it to pay permission fees, administrative penalties and rent for its mobile towers. The company also challenged the amended resolution passed by the urban development and urban housing department of the state government.

Its counsel, Viraj Fozdar and Shalin Mehta, stated that the resolution was subject matter of challenge before the high court. It was further submitted that the high court, in its judgment in Indus Towers Ltd vs the state of Gujarat April 22, had quashed and set aside the resolution passed by the authorities.

The bench said that as the court had already rendered its judgment in similar cases hence the petition is allowed and the demand by the municipal bodies cannot be sustained.

India-Pakistan trade could reach $10 bn annually

Posted: 06 May 2010 11:36 AM PDT

Karachi, May 6 (IANS) Annual trade between India and Pakistan could reach $10 billion once both countries begin export and import through the Integrated Customs Check Posts at Wagha border, Indian High Commissioner Sharat Sabharwal said Thursday.

Construction work on the check posts has been started by the Indian authorities and is expected to be completed before the end of 2011, Sabharwal said at the luncheon meeting hosted by Pakistan Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) here.

The ICCP would be equipped with all modern facilities which will help traders from both sides to ship their consignments speedily, he said, adding that there is a trade potential of $10 billion between the two neighbours and it could easily be materialised if done through official channels.

‘Trade and greater economic integration can make an effective contribution to eliminating poverty from the region and elevate the living of at least 350 million people living in absolute poverty in the South Asian region,’ he was quoted as saying by Online news agency.

Sabharwal said that India has suggested to open up the land route of trade between the two countries via Khokhrapar-Munabao route.

About opening up the Indian Consulate in Karachi, he said the Indian government had accepted this demand and had renovated its consulate building few years back but it requires Pakistan’s government approval.

He noted the idea of creating SAARC Shipping Line owned by SAARC countries and said that this proposal would be passed on to the quarters concerned.

Regarding issuance of five-year multiple visas to 500 businessmen of SAARC Chamber, he said that he would refer this proposal to the SAARC secretariat.

Earlier, President of Pakistan-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry, S.M. Muneer, said in his keynote address that the two countries should not mix trade with politics and the business community should be allowed to carry out trade without hurdles.

‘We should find a way to boost bilateral trade and ring all the unofficial trade through transshipment into legal channels,’ Muneer said.

Court rules against partiality in admission

Posted: 06 May 2010 11:06 AM PDT

Gandhinagar, May 6 (IANS) Local universities cannot be ‘partial’ in giving admissions to students of their own state, the Gujarat High Court has held.

A division bench of Chief Justice S.J. Mukhopadhaya and Justice Akil Kureshi held, ‘By admitting local students ahead of all outside students without prescribing any quota for either of the streams and that too without prescribing any minimum standard of passing in the open test would amount to virtual hundred percent reservation in favor of local students.’

The division bench ordered Gujarat University to prepare a fresh merit list of all candidates for the post graduate nursing course. The court observed that local students may be ranked higher only when the merits of two students are equal.

Ronald Thakor had filed an application before the high court and challenged the validity of relevant rules and regulations which provided ‘preference’ in admission to the candidates graduating from Gujarat University.

The petitioner sought admission in the post graduate course after passing B.Sc.(Nursing) from R.K.D.F. Nursing College of Bhopal in 2008 and gaining one year of work experience.

The petitioner claimed that the university, while preparing a merit list after declaration of the open test in connection with the admission, gave preference to local students and his name was not listed as it should have been.

Counsel for the university contended that the rules do permit institutional preference. ‘Such institutional preference is held to be valid by series of decisions of the high court as well as of the Supreme Court. The university has thus committed no error or illegality by preparing the merit list on the basis of rules which have statutory force.’

Advocate for the local students also contended that action of the university in granting institutional preference was not illegal.

However, the division bench disagreed with their contentions and stated, ‘We may recall that in addition to there not being any minimum passing standard in the open test prescribed under the rules, there is no separate quota of seats allocated to the local students.

Telangana movement has not lost its edge: Yaskhi

Posted: 06 May 2010 11:02 AM PDT

New Delhi, May 6 (IANS) Congress MP Madhu Goud Yaskhi Thursday said the movement for a separate Telangana state carved out of Andhra Pradesh has not lost its edge and has mass support.

‘Those who think the movement is gone are wrong. They thought so in 1969 as well,’ Yaskhi said at a discussion on the Telangana issue here.

Nearly 400 people were killed in police firing during various large-scale agitations to press the demand for a separate Telangana state in 1969.

‘There is difference between Telangana and other parts of the state in every field, from education to health and employment. Coastal Andhra and Rayalseema have a medical college in every district, but Telangana region has only one medical college in 10 districts,’ Yaskhi said.

‘This is a people’s movement, not just a students’ agitation. People from all communities are supporting it. It is a struggle for our pride and the right of self governance,’ he added.

Speaking against the bifurcation of the state, Congress MP from Vijaywada L. Rajagopal said division of the state is not a solution.

‘How far you can divide, go deep into the problem and find out if there is a need for division. We have given the facts to the Srikrishna Committee and it appears at least now they are not talking about backwardness,’ said Rajagopal.

Drawing parallels with the Khalistan movement, he said that the seeds of the movement were sown during the struggle for a separate state for Punjabi speaking population.

‘Seeds of separation were sown in Punjabi minds because of the 10-year long struggle for a separate state. This resulted in the Khalistan movement,’ Rajagopal observed.

Strongly objecting to the comparison, Yaskhi said: ‘Asking for a smaller state is not asking for a separate country. We will live under the same constitution. Don’t compare it with Khalistan’.

In-form Pietersen shines in England’s emphatic win over Pakistan

Posted: 06 May 2010 11:00 AM PDT

Bridgetown (Barbados), May 6 (IANS) Kevin Pietersen found his touch with an unbeaten 70 as England produced a clinical performance to overpower Pakistan by six wickets in the first Super Eights clash of the World Twenty20 here Thursday.

Set to chase 148 runs, England helped by some poor fielding by Pakistan eased past the target comfortably with three balls to spare.

Pietersen, who had been going through a form slump, guided England’s innings smashing 70 off 52 balls with seven fours and two sixes.

Pakistan’s poor fielding form came back to haunt them as a series of lapses gave England the upper hand. England would thank Saeed Ajmal for dropping three catches inside five overs. He dropped Craig Kieswetter twice at mid-on and Michael Lumb once at mid-off.

By the time Ajmal made amends and broke the partnership, England’s new opening combination of Kieswetter (25) and Lumb (25) had put 44 runs on the board from 5.4 overs. Lumb was the aggressor and struck three fours and one six in his 13-ball knock that set the tone for the English chase.

There was no end to Pakistan’s misery on the field as they continued to drop catches.

Pietersen’s drive went out of Abdul Razzaq’s hands in his followthrough. He had another small escape when Mohammad Aamer at long off leapt with one hand but could not complete the catch.

Pietersen took advantage of the lifelines and struck skipper Shahid Afridi over his head for a second six to bring up a 37-ball half-century.

Paul Collingwood played patiently at the other end for his 15-ball 16 but raised 60-runs with Pietersen. He was dismissed by Afridi caught by Umar on the long-off boundary.

Eoin Morgan, who had been England’s best batsmen so far, left adding just five runs, but Pietersen saw the team through.

Earlier, Pakistan’s innings was built around Salman Butt (34) and Umar Akmal (30). Most of the Pakistani batsmen got starts save Afridi, who ran himself out first ball.

England seamers Ryan Sidebottom (2-28), Stuart Broad (2-25) bowled well on a lively wicket that assisted pace and bounce. Spinners Michael Yardy (2-19) and Graeme Swann (1-28) later joined the party.

The European Commission is threatening single member that motivates expenditure, increasing debt and a mush less anticipated recovery has become an unstable cocktail. Yes it's U.K.

The party who will win Thursday’s General Election will turn the fate of the world’s 5th largest economy, an impactable worldwide fiscal center & a fiscal shortage that the European Commission predicts will increase to 12% of GDP in 2010 and will become even higher than Greece.

U.K. elections 2010 come as the financial world has been roiled by events in Europe, like the increasing debt crisis of Greece, Spain & Portugal and the huge economic disturbance of the Icelandic volcano. Rough pre-election polls indicate a probable hung Parliament for the 1st time in 36 years, which could increase some uncertainty to already moved worldwide markets.

The markets didn’t make an immediate response when UK elections 2010 were called a month prior, but that may soon transform after the polls closure: For the 1st time, London businessmen have been permitted a chief election night assembly to business bond & sterling futures — and they’re anticipating heavy action as banks attempt to stake out places, rather than wait for the standard 8 a.m. open on Friday.

Julia Coronado, Senior Economic Analyst for BNP Paribas in New York told UK “is a financial mega-center, so for us as a financial institution we care very much (about the election). In the global banking world we are very aware, more than ever, about what’s going on in continental Europe, what’s going on in the UK, what’s going on in China, all of these things are much more interwoven now. There’s clearly two very different views of the world represented in this election, and I think if we look at it from the economics point of view it certainly has implications for the growth potential of the U.K. (and) for the regulatory environment in the UK, so that could impact the financial industry very significantly."

The main parties haven’t given many important indications about how they plan to handle the UK’s increasing fiscal shortfall, which claiming the rating firms have threatened may finally effect its AAA rating.

David Blanchflower, a prior UK financial policy consultant & economic university lecturer at Dartmouth University told “I’m concerned about (the deficit) in the medium to long term, but in the short term we need to keep this recovery going. What has been driving this is public sector stimulus and the difficulty is we have seen very little action in the private sector. Firms aren’t investing and they aren’t hiring, and if we pull public sector stimulus away the danger is we drop off a cliff.”

While the financial deficit is a matter of worry, market observers indicate that London is no Athens.

David Buik, BGC Partners revealed “We don’t have a bad track record. We shouldn’t be compared to Greece. This is actually a buoyant economy, in the fullness of time. It’s just the fact that the election really has gotten in the way of reality.”

Some matter of concern later UK General Election Polls is that a hung Parliament & any resulted Alliance Government may be irritable & short-lived. The last alliance Government was emerged out in 1974 mere 7 months prior to new elections.

Blanchflower revealed prior to UK General Election 2010 Result “One benefit I think of actually having a hung parliament is that maybe it rules out the possibility that anybody would do anything stupid. At this moment the status quo is perhaps not a bad thing to be in."
