A partial lunar eclipse shall grace the world on Saturday, 26th June, & can be observed with naked eyes from Antarctica, Asia, Australia, few regions of America & the Pacific OceanKorea shall witness the beginning at around 5.55 pm and the celestial event shall remain visible to those within the Pacific Time Zone till its end at 11.21 pm.

In India, the lunar eclipse or Chandra Grahan would be visible only in the extreme Northeast and that too towards the end after 4.56 pm.

Debiprosad Duari, Director MP Birla Planetarium informs, "The moon will rise in Kolkata around 6:25 pm but only the end phase will be visible in the northeast including Assam."

India however is set to witness a total lunar eclipse on 15th June 2011.

The lunar eclipse takes place on a full moon, when earth comes in between the sun and the moon, preventing the sun rays falling on the moon.

Earth's shadow tends to cover the moon and the latter appears red during phenomenon.

As per Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration directive, the lunar eclipse is completely harmless and can be viewed without any protective elements.

However, certain beliefs contradict the view and prevent people especially pregnant women from going out during the eclipses as it is considered inauspicious for the fetus.

Also, people believe that a dip in holy water protects them from the evil effects of solar and lunar eclipses.
