Review: Lamhaa is a movie depicting the post-partition effects. The event concerned may be over but the natives have to still face its consequences.

Lamhaa focuses on Kashmir and the various influential personalities trying to get their hand on this valley.

The story unfolds gradually revolving around Sanjay Dutt (an intelligence officer), Anupam Kher (head of a political party) and Bipasha Basu (Anupam Kher's adopted daughter). Sanjay heads for Kashmir during the time for elections. He senses some trouble brewing there but his main objective is to get to the behind the scene schemers. Rahul Dholakia, the director has adopted a straight-forward approach for the movie. Plenty of explosives are used as the children are being trained for jihad. But you need to give extra attention to keep pace with the fast changing sequences of the movie. On top of it, it does not have any oddly, deliberately inserted romantic scenes or songs for that matter.

As the title goes "Lamhaa-The Untold Story of Kashmir" gives a very different and fresh approach to the subject so talked upon.

The film brings forward the trust issue: the military is for our benefit or is serving its own good. It is really relevant today as the curfew was lifted from Kashmir not very long ago.

And the most moving concern of this movie is that it is the common man, people like you and me who die in the wars and who have to suffer the after-effects of the wars and not the planners or executors or politicians responsible for them.

It is high time now that we should come to terms with the reality and respect our neighbors. This will be beneficial for both India and Pakistan.

James Fowlds, the cinematographer is not at his best. But editors and musicians deserve kudos for their efforts.

Sanjay Dutt not only looks good but has also played his part really well. Bipasha Basu is natural and Anupam Kher is worth applauding. Though, Kunal Kapoor has the capability to do better for he fails to move you at times.

Lamhaa is not a light movie; it gives you something to dwell upon. But do not expect it to reach upto Parzania, Dholakia's earlier work. Still, if you are passionate about the 'heaven on earth', this movie is worth a watch.
