BOX OFFICE REPORT: ‘Lafangey Parindey’ gets noticed for lead characters

Lafangey Parindey

Lafangey Parindey

Pradeep Sarkar's 'Lafangey Parindey' has just made its debut at the cinemas. The film stars Neil Nitin Mukesh and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles and is made under the Yash Raj films banner.

Neil plays the role of Nandu who is a fighter who does his acts at the ring blindfolded. Deepika's Pinky plays a blind roller skater who struggles to fulfill her dreams. The film's performance has been rated by the audience after its first show on the first day. The lead roles of Neil and Deepika have been well appreciated. A moviegoer feels Neils tapori language delivery could have been better. He however adds Pinky to be Deepika's best performance ever. Another said both the actors did a good job and shared good chemistry. Some appreciated Deepika's efforts in playing a blind girl and evaluated Neil's acting to be quite balanced.

However, there were mixed responses regarding the film as such. According to some, the story was not refreshing though the approach was different. The practice session of a dance reminded some of a similar situation in 'Rab ne Bana di Jodi'. More or less, the verdict has been that the flick is a simple and conventional Bollywood type with a predictable climax. But the long term response for 'Lafangey Parindey' at the box office is yet to be evaluated.

Poonam Sinha Restricts Daughter Sonakshi From Revelaing Too Much In Dabangg

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 04:53 AM PDT

SONAKHI

Dabangg, Sonakshi Sinha's launch vehicle won't see any item numbers or skimpy clothing by the Bollywood starlet. And why so? Well, because the 'Shotgun' Sinha's daughter is bound by the maryada of the Sinha household.

Former actress Poonam who is Sonakshi's mother, has clarified that although Sonakshi is free to portray whatever roles she wants, she will have to adhere to their ideology and principles.

And that means a strict NO to item numbers or any revealing attire. “As an actress, Sonakshi has every right to decide what she wants to do and what she doesn’t want to do. It is basically her call. There is a limit for everything and, of course, every family has its own ‘maryaada’ (rules). We have already told her that we have certain ‘maryaada’ and she shouldn’t cross her limits,” Poonam said.

Poonam has refused to comment further about the Sinha family's list of 'Maryada' restrictions on their only daughter, 23yr old Sonakshi. “Hopefully, when you see her in subsequent projects, you will find out,” was all that Poonam said.Mother Poonam takes her job quite seriously. The erstwhile actress had left mainstream cinema after getting married to Shatrughan Sinha. Now a proud mother to Sonakshi who is set to follow the family footsteps with her debut in Dabangg and her twin sons, Poonam leads a busy life.
“I have my hands full now. I have a daughter’s career to look after and, of course, my sons also. I am a 24X7 housewife and that is why I couldn’t take up much work. I did get a lot of offers, but my hands are full,” she said.

Asked about reappearing in Bollywood, she said she would be looking forward to some good offers and maybe a chance to work with her own daughter some day. “If another film like ‘Jodhaa Akbar’ comes, if I get something like that, maybe I will give it a try.” she said.
Sonakshi Sinha who will appear in Dabangg opposite Salman Khan, is a fashion designer too.

She had no idea about acting until offered the role by Salman himself. The catch was that she had to lose weight & she certainly did. A proud Poonam says-”Sonakshi really looked after herself well with her will power. She regularly went to the gym, controlled her food and eating habits which had become very erratic. You know how, as a teenager, kids love to go out and eat.

But once she knew she could get a chance in films, she started focusing on her goal; there was no looking back. She went on a diet, followed a strict gym routine. She really worked hard and the end product was really beautiful. I am proud of her,” Let's hope mommy Poonam's expectations don't fall short as Sonakshi appears in Dabangg. And Sonakshi's willingness to stay in limits of the Sinha family might bring back the old world Bollywood charm minus the skimpy clothing and the item numbers.

‘Peepli Live’ strikes gold at box office; thanks to Aamir’s marketing strategies

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 02:05 AM PDT

Peepli Live

Peepli Live

The recently released 'Peepli Live''s box office is largely attributed to producer Aamir Khan's support and marketing strategies. He does not form part of the cast, but his close association with the film has made it reap a bumper at the cinemas. The rural set up, unknown actors and a less colorful story would not have really been a marketing point for any film. But Aamir's steady promotional activities and publicity helped the audience notice the movie.

Producer Khan also made sure that his film got released in the multiplexes to take care of the profit aspect. This is not the first time Aamir's name has done wonders to a film at the box office. Earlier, 'Jaane Tu Jaane Na' starring nephew Imraan Khan had also tasted success after sinking 'Love Story 2050' at the theatres. The sole reason behind the performance was Aamir Khan's marketing tactics.

It is being reported that 'Peepli Live', despite been directed by new comer Anusha Rizvi was watched primarily for Aamir Khan and secondarily for its story and content. It has had a spectacular opening at the cinemas and is continuing to do wonderful business. These success stories have been attributed to nothing but Aamir's Midas touch in influencing the audience. In addition, other upcoming films from his production house, 'Dhobi Ghat' directed by wife Kiran Rao, and 'Delhi Belly' too are now looked upon with great expectation even though the actor does feature in them.

Movie Review Lafangey Parindey : Pradeep Sarkar Fails To Impress

Posted: 20 Aug 2010 12:53 AM PDT

Lafangey ParindeyMovie Review: Lafangey Parindey
Cast: Neil Nitin Mukesh, Deepika Padukon

Lafangey Parindey is the story of a yuppie biker searching the meaning of love and a blind roller skates dancer who wants to prove herself to the world. Weird title, loose scripting and shoddy acting form the hallmarks of this movie. Yash Raj banner's aptly titled Lafangey Parindey has failed to impress inspite of striving to be unique with this script. Comparisions with 'Fanaa' and 'Black' need not be drawn, Lafangey Parindey falls far too short to even feature in the same list.

Director Pradeep Sarkar lost his grip on the movie way too early. His weird ensemble of cast does everything except act. Neil Nitin Mukesh who had impressed us all with his 'Jail' and 'Johnny Gaddar' thoroughly disappoints in his role as the biker Nandu. From the top of his gelled hair downright to his false tapori accent, Neil's personification of Nandu seems forced. And this whole 'looking for meaning of love' sounds so…well pathetic! A hardcore fighter who wants to fall in love? Yeah, we believe you Mr. Sarkar.

Add to that a Deepika Padukone, who plays Pinky Palkar the blind dancer. Who knew Deepika could dance? Well, the audience won't. That's because Pradeep Sarkar doesn't even bother to hide her body double who goes about gliding through all those ballerina scenes. Script writer Gopi Puthran has failed to give his character anything more than names in Lafangey Parindey. The story could have been better developed instead of being the clichéd romance-cum-action packed masala flick it is.

And the editing is weirder. Just a flashy attempt to make up for the lack of story & depth in Lafangey Parindey. And don't think you can stand through all the songs that blare through the speakers. They make no sense just like the rest of the movie. Having failed to impress the audience Lafangey Parindey stands no chance at the box office. About that Monday will tell. Meanwhile girls, go for Lafangey Parindey if Neil Nitin Mukhesh's bare arms means anything to you.

Movie Ratings – 2/5

Release Date – 20th August, 2010
