CWG Theme Song: A.R Rehman Forced to Recompose

Posted: 02 Sep 2010 10:09 AM PDT

CWG Theme Song

CWG Theme Song

The Common Wealth Games are around the corner and there's yet another obstacle to the event. While the CWG committee is worried already regarding the incomplete work, the theme song of the Games has turned out to be quite disappointing. A. R Rehman the Indian icon when it comes to music has had a loss of creativity it seems because his theme song has certainly failed to strike the right chords.

Neither fans nor the CWG Committee are happy with his work. What's more embarrassing is the fact that the Committee is actually considering asking Rehman to recompose the CWG theme song. And why not? With an expenditure of Rs5 crore, it's a rightful demand from the Committee.

Former sports minister Shahnawaz Hussain was mostly disappointed with the song saying that he had expected a better standard from A.R Rehman. The hype had been that the song would surpass the popularity of Shakira's Waka Waka composition for the FIFA World Cup 2010. A visibly disappointed Hussain said, “I respect Rahman for what he has achieved but the track simply does not excite me.

No one in the OC likes it except perhaps Suresh Kalmadi. It is nowhere close to Waka Waka and has failed to lift the sagging spirits of the CWG.” “We had expected a better song from a composer of Rahman’s status. He has given some very good songs like Maa Tujhe Salaam but this song is not that impressive.” said Vijaykumar Malhotra, board member of CWG (OC).

Meanwhile the organising secretary of the event, Lalit Bhanot wants to give Swagatham a 2nd chance and is hopeful that once people hear the song more often they will get accustomed to it. “Either it is good music or bad. There is no middle way to evaluate the appeal of a Rs 5 crore track, he can surely re-compose it” said the Bhagalpur MP.

And this has led to several questions regarding why A.R Rehman was fully allotted the right to compose the theme song for CWG 2010. People shouldn't expect every composition if his to be a masterpiece.

The 70's style music is a mixture of bhangra beats with bits of sitar & guitar thrown in. A little bit of rap has also been added to give it the right western essence. The song had taken Rehman 6 months to come up with. “I think it won’t be good to release the theme song without making the necessary changes,” Rahman had earlier said.

Giving his opinion Louis Banks said- “Rahman’s work has always been controversial. But if you are truly inspired, it takes ten minutes to compose a tune. Given that it took him six months to compose it, I guess something must have gone wrong somewhere."

Whether it was a lack of creativity and inspiration, the Common Wealth Games theme song 'Swagatham' has failed to impress everyone, even the A.R. Rehman fans. And since repeated fendition or promotion os the song isn't going to help, it seems likely that A.R. Rehman might have to swallow his pride and recompose the CWG theme song.

Jhoota Hi Sahi Preview: What Pakhi Has To Say About Her Debut Movie

Posted: 02 Sep 2010 10:04 AM PDT

Jhootha Hi Sahi

Jhootha Hi Sahi

Jhoota Hi Sahi the latest movie from Abbas Tyrewala of the Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Na Fame will be seeing some new faces. Tyrewala has cast his wife Pakhi as the female lead opposite the protagonist John Abraham in Jhoota Hi Sahi. Only one film old, Tyrewala's 2nd movie will also see his wife's name in the credits for scripting the story of this flick.

Pakhi speaks about her experiences & aspirations from a movie that will finally launch her into Bollywood both as an actress as well as in the domain of scriptwriter. If she thought working with hubby Abbas would be fun, Pakhi realized the truth only later. "Abbas is a very mellow person in real life. But on the sets, he wouldn't concede to just anything," she has revealed.

Coming to her script, Pakhi had penned the script while Abbas was busy with his debut movie Jaane Tu Yaa Jaane Na. when the script found its way to Abbas' hands, it too was meticulously criticized- "When I submitted the script I thought I was Beethoven. But he made me write eight drafts. He told me, 'If you can't rewrite, you have no business being a writer'."

In Jhoota Hi Sahi Pakhi plays the role of a happy-go-lucky character while the lead hero John is a messy guy. Pakhi has said that the lead's character is inspired from how she herself behaves in real life. The movie Jhoota Hi Sahi is set to be a romantic drama revolving around the 2 of them.

On the preparations that preceded Jhoota Hi Sahi, Pakhi said that she had to lose nearly 8 kilos so as to look her part. And once the movie's promotions begun Pakhi literally cut off from the outer world. "As soon as the films promos went on air, I disconnected myself from all social networking sites. I don't want to know about any reactions. I am very nervous," she states.

And it's a fact that Pakhi who had dreamt of a career in acting had earlier failed to acquire the role of Meghna in her hubby Abbas Tyrewala's directorial debut. "But sometimes you secretly don't stop hoping. And things just fall into place someday," says Pakhi. While shooting she gave herself completely to acting on her director-husband's instructions. How well her acting & scripting go hand in hand is to be seen when Jhoota Hi Sahi hits the big screen. For now Pakhi is ready with 2 scripts up her sleeve! Keep watching this space for more on Jhoota Hi Sahi.

Pre-Release Review: “Knock Out” to come out soon with Sunit Dutt in a new avatar

Posted: 02 Sep 2010 09:44 AM PDT

Knock Out

Knock Out

So finally we see Sunil Dutt in another macho avatar in his forth coming movie Knock Out. Directed by Mani Shankar, under the production of Sohail Maklai, Knock Out is an out and out action packed movie.

The movie boasts about an excellent star cast with Sanju baba , Irrfan Khan and the reigning queen  Kangana Ranaut , who is gaining umpteen adulation after her fabulous performance in Once Upon a time in Mumbai. She plays the role of a hard core journalist, who seeks for justice and truth.

She plays her role to the tee. The dilemma of in her character is quite interesting, whether to choose her life over somebody else's or to make a choice between herself and the country. Gulshan Grover, Sushant Singh and Apoorva Lakhia, being the other cast members.

In the Knock Out, Sanjay Dutt plays a non nonsense predator, who is focused on his work. He is a total gadget freak and has the latest fighter weapons in his hands. Irrfan plays the role of a pre occupied business oriented man whose sole aim of life is to make profit and Kangkana Ranaut, the sole of the movie, plays the pivotal role and gave the essence of the movie.

Through her character, the main essence of the movie comes out, that whatever the condition may, the heart and conscience of the youth rests at the correct place, at the soul.
The USP of the movie lies in the ending of it, with a high pitched, thrilling wrap up, the movie is surely going to be like any other Hollywood high racing action thriller. Hope fully the movie targets its right audience and make a mark. All the best!

We Are Family Review: Grab your Hanky Before you Watch This

Posted: 02 Sep 2010 09:16 AM PDT

We are Fameily

We are Fameily

Director : Siddharth P.Malhotra: Cast: Arjun Rampal, Kajol, Kareena Kapoor, Aanchal Munjal, Nominath Ginsburg and Diya Sonecha

We Are Family could be labeled as yet another Hollywood remake but I refrain from doing so. Firstly because director Siddharth has actually bothered to get the official rights to original Stepmom movie and second, the movie itself has been crafted in an original manner. We Are Family has a great casting and the child artists are also very good.

The stars add depth to the character and everyone can see that Kajol & Arjun Rampal are absolutely fantastic in this movie. Kareena Kapoor too doesn't disappoint. We Are Family is a story about Aman i.e.

Arjun Rampal's family that comprises of his ex-wife Maya i.e. Kajol and his lovely kids- Aleya (Aanchal Munjal), Ankush (Nominath Ginsburg), and Anjali (Diya Sonecha) as well as his current love interest Shreya i.e. Kareena Kapoor. Aman is divorced but the kids won't let go of their doting mother Maya. And of course when Shreya makes an appearance in the house, the kids loathe her.

The story of We Are Family revolves about how Maya & the kids adjust to having Shreya around the same house. There are some funny moments, like the father-son duo discussing girls. But We Are Family is basically an emotional drama that upholds the Indian family tradition. This debut attempt by Siddharth however fails at the climax which could have been better portrayed.

The music is good & as usual Shankar, Ehsaan & Loy stand out. Jailhouse Rock is already quite popular. Mohanan manages to bring Australia alive on the screen quite beautifully. We Are Family can be regarded as a good family entertainer albeit a weak climax.

But if you are planning to go watch We Are Family this weekend with your family, make sure you are ready to shed loads of tears. The melodramatic scenes in We Are Family are enough to melt a rock indeed.

Ex priest comes forward with a revealing autobiography

Posted: 02 Sep 2010 04:31 AM PDT

There is absolutely no end to the depraved nature religious followers are undertaking under the roof of religious places by indulging in profane sexual lawlessness that has been duly mentioned in writing undertaken by priests and priestesses criticizing the corrupt practices that form a part of their life styles. Before it was sister Jesmi an ex nun who wrote about this dark side in her book it is now an ex priest who has written something really controversial yet true about the yielding and unchaste lifestyle and practices followed by a part of the clergy members.

K P Shibu's book titled ‘Here is The Heart of a Priest‘ is a revealing text that talks about prevalent practices connected to sexual gratification and harassment observed by members of the clergy. Shibu who served as a clergy at Vicentian Congregation for the duration of 11 years, left the service and wrote an autobiographical book about his experience there slamming all chastity claims made by the religious followers.

Shibu notes in his book that practices like homosexuality and watching adult films is something very common for a section of nuns as well as priests who are no more devotes of god but instead yield to power and lust. He also reveals in his book the misuse of funds reserved for religious activities and rate of sexual encounters that is as high as 60% among religious followers. Even celibates indulge in practices of self pleasure. While there are some who even use the weaker sections of the society like poor people, orphans, children etc for their gratification.

Emotional Atyachar Movie Versus Emotional Atyachar Show

Emotional Atyachar

Emotional Atyachar

The film makers of the upcoming flick Emotional Atyachar were absolutely on cloud nine after they won the lawsuit against the channel UTV Bindaas, when there plea to sue the movie makers for a whooping 20 crore was rejected by the court.

The channel filed a law suit against the production house of the film Purple Haze for a sum of 20 crore as they have adopted the same title for their film which originally belongs to their reality show which is a brand name for the channel.

But the production house's lawyer told the court that their title was absolutely original and was registered at the IMPAA (Indian Motion Pictures’ Producers Association.

The lawyer also added that the film had no relations to the show as there production was a film and not a reality show. The lawsuit filed by the UTV Bindaas channel had earlier hampered the release date of the film which is now slated for a September 3rd showcase.

The filmmakers said that the films title had a registered certificate backing its originality while the UTV people had no such film registration on their sleeves and hence cannot make claims about the fact that we have in any way derived something out of their show. After the rejection of their lawsuit by the court, the channel has instead appealed against the decision that is made.

The production house lawyers also mentioned that the channel hade laid claims about the damage that was met to them through an amount of 20 crore, but they had no information about the kind of damages that were done.

Sanjay Butt’s Knock Out blessed with Baba Ramdev’s NOC

Knock Out

Knock Out

For Sanjay Dutt's upcoming movie Knock Out, the Producers were asked by the censor board to get a No Objection Certificate from yoga guru, Baba Ramdev as his name is mentioned in a dialogue used by Sanjay Dutt in the film. But indeed the yoga guru is no less than a boon for the flick that stars actors like Sanjay Dutt, Kangna Ranaut and Irfan Khan. The promos had this one dialogue that had Sanju baba telling Irfan that "he wants the same thing that Baba Ramdev wants from his followers".

When the censors heard this dialogue they immediately asked the production house of the film that is AAP Entertainment to secure an NOC certificate from the Yoga guru. Now the complication that the makers and producers faced was the fact that they had virtually no time in hand and therefore could not make any changes in the dialogue too so the only way out was to contact Baba Ramdev for his approval. The best part was that Mani Shankar has previously worked with many holy gurus and therefore did not face any form of complications for getting in touch with the yoga guru.

He immediately had a conversation with the great guru informing him about the mention of his name in one of the dialogues of his upcoming film and also the positive context of its usage. He told him that the use of his name was in a clear positive light and thus hearing this Baba Ramdev willingly accepted the inclusion of his name into the dialogue. This way the censors approved to the promo filming of the movie without any troubles.

Honor Killing is one social issue that is taking Bollywood by the storm with several films being based on it to raise awareness among the public so that the ills of this practice can come forward. This is exactly what Ajay Devgn and Bipasha Basu staring “Aakrosh” (Anger) is all about. The practice of honor killing is drawing the Indian government under pressure as every second day there is a new case being reported; also the UN is desperately working towards bringing a check on this issue.

Within such a light "Aakhrosh" comes ahead as an effective way to spread social awareness about this issue. The flick will hit screens on the 1st of October and is directed by Priyadarshan who has made this film under inspiration from an Iranian movie called “Bacheha-Ye Aseman". Priyadarshan told media that the film cannot change the society and its practices but it can function as a tool to bring about an awakening that will help to curb this issue in terms of future happenings.

Ajay Devgan who is essaying the role of a leading character in the flick said that film makers many a times try to make socially relevant films with current issues as the theme of the film. He also added that being an actor it is very difficult to essay such challenging roles which tackle real world crimes on the reel, since there is absolutely no honor involved in killing the innocent in the name of fake honor. As far as Bipasha Basu is concerned, the actress is nowadays working on projects particularly based on social issues.

There appearance was based on their films promotion. All the celebrity guests enjoyed the acts put up by the participants of show but as always there were certain performances that took the audience as well as the judges by a whirl wind and one of them was that of the Banjara School of Dance girls. Sources revealed that the actor Arjun Rampal was so taken a back by their acts that he exchanged contact numbers with the group for future reference. The actor mentioned his appreciation through his very own statement wherein he said that the act has left him without words and that the girls performed was absolutely amazing to see.

He said that he was happy to witness that such perfect belly dancing moves are still practiced in the nation. Arjun also paid regards to the India's Got Talent judges who are very well fulfilling their responsibility of fore fronting the talent onto this platform that will give these artists the right kind of space to exhibit what they have in them. With Arjun's appreciation the Belly dancing contestants also brought forward a point of their own in which they said, “We hope that the art of belly dancing is more recognized and appreciated in India. As a society, India still looks down upon belly-dancing as an art or profession. We would like this attitude to change and people to embrace it as a special art and true talent”. This is not all sources tell us that while Arjun loved the talent of these girls, Kiran Kher loved their dresses and for Sajid he was all together charmed by the girls themselves.

Oxford English Dictionary (OED), we will miss you…

Posted: 02 Sep 2010 01:01 AM PDT

Oxford English Dictionary

Oxford English Dictionary came out in print for the first time about 126 years back. But this dictionary will now exist solely online for its publication is now being stopped, as announced by its officials. Its highly respected team of 80 lexicographers will now be able to see the result of their 21 years hard work on its third edition only on the internet.

The OED has been readily accessed online since 10 years and has got an overwhelming response of two million hits per month that costs £205 per annum (exclusive of VAT) to the subscribers. Oxford University Press says the 28% completed latest update of the dictionary may never see the dawn in print for the dominance of internet is gradually increasing. "The print dictionary market is just disappearing…it is falling away by tens of percent a year. Our primary purpose- and this takes a bit if adjusting to- is not profit, it is the dissemination of knowledge. Print is still important round here but, wherever possible, if there is an opportunity, we are moving out of it." He further predicted that the shelf life of the published dictionary will be about 30 years.

This decision has given rise to a debate among the students and teachers, among the people of different generations. These dictionaries, especially the pocket dictionaries, prove really handy for some who find it too cumbersome to log on to the internet for looking up a single word. And not everyone is tech savvy. The introduction of this reputed dictionary only on the internet will make the students forget how to use a dictionary, for they will have to just type in a word to get its meaning instead of flipping through the pages. Then, it is not practical everywhere, there is still a certain percentage of students who do not have access to the internet in their homes or in their classrooms.

But not everyone is perturbed by the digital version of Oxford English Dictionary. There are many students who do their projects and assignments with the help of the internet who will now find OED readily available. Then, the bigger versions of OED are not easy to carry around and the online version will come in handy in such cases.

The OED has always kept up with time and accommodated the various changes going on in this modern world. It included words like 'Whoopsie' that refers very childishly to a piece of excrement in 1970s, 'E-Ticket' that refers to the paperless electronic document virtually issued by the entire airline industry in 1990s and 'Screenager' that refers to a teenager having an aptitude for the Internet and the computers in 2010.

This step of OUP will see the end of the beloved Oxford English Dictionary in print and a beginning of the new era for the Gen Y.
