IITs open to recruit foreign faculty and students from abroad

Posted: 10 Sep 2010 07:11 AM PDT

The prominent Indian Institutes of Technology are expanding their scope a step further by offering courses in medicine having overseas personnel stationed at permanent positions and foreign students at the post graduate standard.

This resolution was passed at a conference of IIT council officiated by the Union Human and Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal on Friday.

The government headed to seek the consent of the Medical Council of India for this program, Sibal told a tabloid.

The IIT Council has decided to execute the necessary steps to bring out an amendment in the Institute of Technologies Act that will facilitate the IITs to offer the course in medicine, Sibal added.

"We are making sure that wherever the instruction leads to a degree relating to any branch of medicine, then of course clearances from MCI under the Act will have to be taken," said Sibal.

He meanwhile cleared that IITs will not need any kind of approval from MCI to slot in inter-disciplinary research for the expansion of education and spreading out knowledge which does not head to awarding a degree or even prerequisite qualification for the practice of medicine.

It has also been settled that a permanent standing committee chaired by R A Mashelkar, the previous chief of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research will be set up to bring this decision into effect.

The council also resolved to give the right to IITs to employ foreign faculties that should not exceed 10 % of their total faculty members.

"In principle, we agreed that IITs are entitled to recruiting foreign faculties", said the HRD Minister adding that they will arrange for a procedure with the Home Ministry to make certain there is no "hiccup in the process and there is easy exit and entry of people" as faculties.

The other concerns regarding amendments in the Indian Citizenship Act will be decided in due course of time, said Sibal.

IITs feel that their students will be open to new elements with the coming in of foreign nationals as their professors on their campus that will make their education further globalize and gradually lead to decreasing of brain-drain.

Sibal also added that the reunion also settled to permit not more than 25% foreign post graduates on a "supernumerary basis without affecting the present admission norms for Indian students".

The Income Tax (IT) department in Delhi has got its hands full. With an IT raid at the premises of a real estate company Paras, the IT department has recovered Rs. 22.3 crore in Delhi. Alleged tax evasion by real estate players has prompted the IT department to undertake massive search operations.

A nation-wide search has been underway, covering more than 70 real estate premises recently. Startling findings about Delhi real estate players come in the wake of these surprise searches.

The IT raid at Paras comes as the largest accounted cash haul in the capital city. What more will follow is still a matter of time. Other real estate developers whose premises will be surveyed include Amrapali group. The number of officers involved in this process is as high as 450.

They want to leave no stone unturned. Searches have extended in locations not just in and around Delhi, but also Meerut, Haridwar, Mussoories, Kanpur as well as Lucknow.

Unreported profits and income are a matter of serious concern. In addition to the money, IT departments have made sure that relevant documents are also seized, leaving no scope for manipulation later on.

Are real estate players the only victims of the raid? No. The IT watchdog has also conducted raids at a computer peripheral import firm in Ghaziabad. The search is expected to go on till Saturday, at least in places like Haryana, Agra as well as Bulandshahar.

Though it is a routine exercise, the extent of revelations has become worse as compared to previous years.

Komaram Puli review: Komaram Puli is a movie about an honest police officer. The role is played by Pawan Kalyan. Even though an honest police officer sounds like an irony of sorts, the movie picks up the same old plot and packages it anew, with much to look forward to. The police officer in the movie is a man of rules, one who follows strict discipline. Click hereKomaram Puli Mp3 audio songs

The real twist in Komaram Puli begins when an underworld don Al Saleem is fined by Puli for parking his car in an area where parking is prohibited. Clearly, Puli, as is expected of him, keeps and eye on every move made by Saleem. Does he come across any real evidence? Puli has many surprises, or in fact, shocks waiting for him.

To find out what these hidden truths are, book your show right now. Komaram Puli ratings substantiate the case. Even if you haven't had the chance to be part of the Komaram Puli premiere show, it's never too late for the good stuff!

With a 42 crore budget, this movie also has a strong plot and much to reflect upon. It has launched Nikesha Patel. TO get the best of the movie, watch it early in the season and enjoy watching an honest police officer, a rarity.
