Rahul Bose wants to do a hardcore action film

Posted: 21 Sep 2010 04:57 AM PDT

Rahul Bose wants to do a hardcore action filmRahul Bose is dying to do an action film as he is passionate about sports but says an emphatic no to typical Bollywood potboilers. He adds that offbeat movies and world cinema have always excited him.

"I have been seen less in out-and-out commercial films because my preference has always been world cinema. Whether it is 'Split Wide Open' or 'English, August', my inclination has been offbeat cinema," Rahul told IANS in an interview.

"I would never want to do a typical commercial film, but I want to do a hardcore action film now. Stunts and adventure have always interested me. My passion for sports pokes me now and then to consider action roles. And I have always thought of doing at least one film where I would fly through the air," he added.

The 43-year-old, who was here as brand ambassador of NGO Oxfam India to raise his voice in support of residents of Leh - the area suffered hugely after a cloudburst in August - has always had a unique choice of projects.

He started his movie career with Dev Benegal's 1994 film "English August", a satire on bureaucracy.

Although he has acted in mainstream Bollywood films like "Thakshak", "Silsilay" and "Pyaar Ke Side Effects" among others, Rahul is known for his portrayals in arthouse films like "Mr. and Mrs. Iyer", "15 Park Avenue", "Anuranan", "Chameli" and "Japanese Wife".

Doesn't he feel uncomfortable being tagged as a serious actor?

"I feel proud that my work is worth being tagged...even if it means being called 'different'. The cinema that I do is different and is not mainstream - that is why people give different tags to it. But at least they recognise me. It's better to be known with some name than to be neglected," he said.

Now his forthcoming movies include Onir's "I Am", in which he plays a homosexual, and Vipul Shah's "Kuch Love Jaisa" opposite Shefali Shah.

Rahul is quite excited about "I Am".

"Working in 'I Am' has been a phenomenal experience and I am quite happy with the way the film has shaped up. I play a homosexual and the story is about love and homosexuality," he said.

Meanwhile, he has decided not to take up any new projects as of now and is fulfilling his action dreams on popular action-adventure show "Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi 3". Hosted by Bollywood diva Priyanka Chopra, it is aired on Colors.

His performance has been average till now, but he admits that the "vibrant personality" of the host is an add-on to the contestants' energy level.

"Priyanka is very intelligent and has a very vibrant personality, which was a source of energy to the contestants. But during performances there was nothing that could distract your focus, not even beauty," he said.

The show is shot in Brazil and involves many challenging tasks involving dealing with creepy crawlies and underwater and mid-air stunts. But the sports enthusiast describes it as a great experience.

"I loved every bit of it, the show was a great experience and all of us gelled very well without any effort. My partner Anne was very strong. And I must bring into notice that the stunts were very professional - the level of difficulty, the safety measures - everything was looked after very well."

Bollywood Actress Sonakshi Sinha goes western chic for Nari's show

Posted: 21 Sep 2010 04:47 AM PDT

Bollywood Actress Sonakshi Sinha goes western chic for Nari's showBollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha, who was seen as a demure rustically dressed Indian girl in her debut film "Dabangg", came all out in a totally western and outgoing avatar at Narendra Kumar Ahmed's show at the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week (LFW).

"Nari is one of my favourite designers and walking the ramp for him is an absolute pleasure. I have always admired his style and clothes and after 'Dabangg' this is for the first time, I am in a western look and Killer jeans has done a wonderful job," Sonakshi told reporters here.

The 23-year-old actress, who wore lehengas and sarees in "Dabangg" was sporting denim jeans and top, coupled with a hat at the show of Narendra Kumar, fondly called Nari's association, with clothing brand Killer.

Sonakshi oozed confidence and was extremely casual while sashaying down the ramp. The actress who was formerly a fashion designer herself, even broke into a slight dance and seemed to enjoy the music to the hilt.

When asked about the status of her career in designing, the actress said: "That unfortunately has taken a back seat. Designing is a very demanding job and so is acting, so if I try doing both, I will be nowhere, better I stick to one."

"My mom really wants me to launch a brand, but nothing anytime soon. I have studied it, invested so much of time. No education goes waste, so definitely sometime in future," she added.

The line which was labelled Killer Nari drew inspiration from the contemporary style icons Kate Moss and Gisele Bundchen.

The collection entailed designs both for men and women. While the collection for men contained 1980's inspired sport jackets, shirts in bold contrasting polka dots and check prints in pop art with stylised jeans, the women collection mainly comprised jeans and shorts with casual tops and t-shirts.

"What we have tried to bring fashion into jeans unlike jeans being a fashion itself. And now we have the perfect muse for the line. And the way today Sonakshi walked the ramp, she was absolutely fantastic," said Nari.

'Anjaana Anjaani' release postponed due to Ayodhya verdict

'Anjaana Anjaani' release postponed due to Ayodhya verdictThe release of Ranbir Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra starrer "Anjaana Anjaani" has been postponed from Sep 24 to Oct 1 in view of the verdict in the Ayodhya case, due the same day.

"At first I was in a position where I needed to go ahead with the release on the slated date. However, there is no denying that the Ayodhya isssue is much bigger and needs respect," producer Sajid Nadiadwala, of Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment Pvt. Ltd, told reporters here at the Mehboob Studios.

Directed by Siddharth Anand, the film has been co-produced by Eros International.

"Ranbir had addressed the issue to me and Eros and we gave it much thought. Ranbir is, of course, one of the most looked upon youth icons of our time and his point was a much sensitised and valid one.

"After having mutually discussed it with Eros, we have decided to release the film Oct 1. The film is a very happy one and celebrates life, hence releasing it on a peaceful day would be preferred. I am sure people's good wishes are with us," he added.

Giving her nod to the decision, Priyanka said: "This was our wish that the date should be postponed. I think it is the matter of principle. Whatever happens, we should go through this day in a very peaceful way. It is a very important day for India and we should all be together to give the day its deserving importance."

Adds Ranbir: "Well, I hope whatever be the verdict, peace be maintained. That was a nightmare for us. The verdict shouldn't be biased and should be in favour of all Indians."

Rishi Kapoor says 'I've not been recognised as an actor in my own country'

Posted: 21 Sep 2010 04:14 AM PDT

Rishi Kapoor says 'I've not been recognised as an actor in my own country'Yesteryears' star Rishi Kapoor is happy that South Africa is playing host to a retrospective of his films, but feels sad that he is not getting recognition in his own country.

"I've not been recognised as an actor in my own country. From 16 September, South Africa hosted a retrospective of my films to celebrate the 150 years since the first Indian went to South Africa," said Rishi.

His "Bobby", "Karz", "Chandni", "Laila-Majnu", "Prem Rog", "Luck By Chance", "Love Aaj Kal", and "Chintuji" were screened during the retrospective.

"They've chosen eight of my films. I don't entirely approve of their choice... I'd have liked films like 'Damini', 'Amar Akbar Anthony', 'Hum Kissi Se Kam Nahin' and 'Doosra Aadmi' to be shown.

"I feel so dejected when I see other actors far more junior than me being recognised by the Indian government for their work. I'm being recognised in various parts of the world... but not in my own country."

Rishi's wife Neetu couldn't accompany him to South Africa.

"Ranbir has just returned from Prague after a month. Neetu needs to spend time with him. We can't leave him alone at home," he said.

Rishi misses roles being written for him the way they are for Amitabh Bachchan.

"Amitabh Bachchan is an enigma. He is an industry by himself. With the multiplex culture, I'm finally getting roles that I like, especially 'Do Dooni Char' and 'Patiala House'. I don't want to do any of those stereotypical father's roles."

As for reviving the once-illustrious R.K. Banner, Rishi sighed: "I'm one-third guilty. My two brothers are equally responsible. I am not sitting idle at home. I'm very busy as an actor. I started acting from the age of 15 in 'Mera Naam Joker'. For 25 consecutive years, I worked as romantic hero. Then I almost immediately directed 'Aa Ab Laut Chalen'. Then immediately after that started my journey playing older roles with 'Kuch Khatti Kuch Meethi'.

"I've been working almost non-stop for 42 years. Hang up the boots? I enjoy my work. I'm very passionate about my work. If I don't work, I'll go into depression."

Rishi is very excited about being paired with his wife in director Habib Faizal's "Do Dooni Char.

"I loved the director. He dared to cast me as the hero. When Habib narrated the story to me, I asked him which role he wanted me for. When he said it was a maths professor's role, I protested saying I wasn't saleable and that he should take Ranbir. Habib stumped me by replying, 'My protagonist is 54. Does Ranbir look that old to you?' He said my star is my script.

"It's a very touching story of a teacher who gives so much knowledge to the world, and his struggle to buy a car."

Habib then suggested Neetu for the female lead.

"He suggested my old colleague Juhi Chawla. But she turned down the role because she didn't want to play mother to a 15-year-old boy. One evening I told Neetu about the film. She said, 'Are you mad? I haven't acted for 30 years. Just because I agreed to do one shot in 'Love Aaj Kal', 'tum peeche pad gaye'.

"I reasoned with her. 'Ranbir and Riddhima have their own lives now. Do this film for me, yaar! People want to see us together.' I convinced her to listen to the script. And she agreed immediately. Then I knew this film would work."

This film, Rishi stresses, is not Neetu's comeback project.

"She'll do the film with Ranbir and me. But that's it. And we two might do a sequel to 'Do Dooni Char'."

The last time Rishi and Neetu were together was in "Dhan Daulat" 30 years ago. "We've done 11 films together. I don't consider 'Love Aaj Kal' our film together. But if you do then 'Do Dooni Char' would be our 13th film together. I sure hope that no. 13 proves lucky for me."

Amitabh Bachchan: Walking the ramp is most difficult

Amitabh Bachchan: Walking the ramp is most difficultBollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan doesn't mind experimenting with any kind of roles, but he finds walking the ramp as the toughest thing to do and wonders how models manage to walk with "those high heels".

The actor and his wife, Jaya, went to attend fashion designer Nachiket Barve's show on the third day of the ongoing Lakme Fashion Week (LFW) in Mumbai Sunday.

"It's the first time for me to be at one of these events and indeed how delightful it was. Felt I was live on FTV, sitting in the gallery among many enthusiasts as the slender and pretty models displaying the wares of the designer walked past on the ramp.

"I had done the same - walked the ramp - for our dear friends Abu (Jani) and Sandeep (Khosla) on two occasions and had felt it to be the most difficult of tasks," Amitabh posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com.

The 67-year-old, who recently won the National Film Award for best actor for his role in "Paa", says he wonders how models remain expressionless on the ramp.

"It is tough to keep a straight expressionless face when you know thousands of eyes are meticulously watching every move of yours. How on earth these graceful and dainty looking models manage all this in those high high-heeled shoes is another miracle. But they did, and did it well," he wrote.

Akshay Kumar loves paranthas!

Superstar Akshay Kumar may have tasted all cuisines around the world, but he still loves eating and even cooking oil-laden paranthas.

"Mein paranthewali gali wala ladka hoon (I am from the lane of paranthas), and I love to make different types of paranthas when it comes to Indian cuisine," said the actor, who is set to host a Star Plus' upcoming cookery competition show "Master Chef India".

Akshay, who was raised in the capital's Chandni Chowk area, famous for its

'paranthewali gali', says his son, Aarav has a different taste.

"Aarav likes cheese toast, pasta, macaroni and sandwiches," he added.

Sajid Khan's weight loss woes!

Sajid Khan has a problem - whenever he starts directing a film, he ends up piling on a few kilos. But after "Housefull", he is now trying to lose all the flab with rigorous exercise on the treadmill.

"I've been trying to lose a little weight these days. Whenever I direct a film, I take out all my frustration on food. I don't drink. So when I'm stressed, I eat. But losing the flab becomes a big task after the film releases," Sajid told IANS.

The director says he weighed 86 kgs before he began shooting "Housefull", but he gained 10 kgs by the end of it. After his treadmill sessions, he has managed to come down to 90 kgs, and he is still struggling to shed more.

Paris Hilton gets one year probationSocialite Paris Hilton has been sentenced to a year's probation and avoided being jailed after pleading guilty to two misdemeanour charges.

The 29-year-old beauty appeared in front of a Las Vegas court, following her arrest last month when cocaine was found in her possession, and admitted two offences, drug possession and obstructing an officer.

She is now on probation for 12 months and if she is arrested in that time, she will face a year in jail.

"She was treated like anyone else would be treated under the circumstances, and I'm very proud of the way she's dealt with this. I think she's on the road to success and I wish her personally the best," femalefirst.co.uk quoted her lawyer David Chesnoff as saying.

Asked why Paris did not fight the charges against her, David said: "Miss Hilton accepted responsibility."

Paris, 29, was arrested Aug 27 on Las Vegas Boulevard after police pulled over a vehicle in which she was a passenger, and officers discovered 0.8 grams of cocaine in her purse.

Earlier this year, Paris was arrested in June in South Africa after marijuana was allegedly found in her possession. However, the charges were later dropped.

When Robbie Williams offended Kylie Ann Minogue

When Robbie Williams offended Kylie Ann MinogueSinger Robbie Williams has revealed that he left singer Kylie Minogue feel offended by laughing drunkenly at her when she stripped during a song.

The pair had teamed up to film the video for their hit single "Kids" during which she had stripped. Williams said he has had a crush on Minogue since her days on TV show "Neighbours" in the late 1980s.

In his book titled "You Know Me", the "Take That" star revealed how the shock of seeing the woman he had admired for years undressing made him burst into laughter and left her "offended".

"I couldn't figure out why my banter wouldn't work, why my natural ability to just be myself went awry," telegraph.co.uk quoted him as saying.

He had not been told that the scene would feature Minogue taking off a robe to reveal she was wearing nothing but a tiny G-string.

"I just burst out laughing. Which I don't think went down well with Kylie," Williams added.

"I may have offended her too, because she must have felt vulnerable too, being naked on set, and being naked in front of me."

He added: "I think that any chance of anything disappeared when I laughed at her. Perhaps she likes being naked, but she probably doesn't enjoy being laughed at by some Stokie idiot."

Williams said he has been too embarrassed to ever bring the incident up since. But he said he hoped that mentioning it in the book would go "some way" to serving as an apology.
