Akshay Kumar is Sonam Kapoor's new favourite

Posted: 07 Sep 2010 03:11 AM PDT

Akshay Kumar is Sonam Kapoor's new favouriteLissome Sonam Kapoor is grateful to have a tall co-star in Akshay Kumar. As the two work together on the sets of "Thank You", she says he is the most hardworking actor she has ever met.

"He's one actor I can wear high heels with! It's such a relief," Sonam told IANS.

"When I was signed to do 'Mausam' with Shahid Kapoor I remember I had gone to Pankaj Kapoor sir's office. Shahid measured my height. We were relieved when we were nearly the same height. In fact, he was slightly taller because of his hair."

On the sets of "Thank You", Akshay is quite amused each time Sonam walks in with her all-girl entourage.

"I travel with my four companions all the time. Akshay just grins each time he sees them. I've never met anyone as hardworking as Akshay. He's ready before everyone else and reshearses each scene 50 times. And his comic timing is so hard to match."

Luckily Sonam had done comedy, read "Aisha", before joining Akshay in "Thank You".

"My comedy in 'Aisha' is very Lucille Ball, very Goldie Hawn. But in 'Thank You', I needed to drop all my inhibitions. I remember me and my girls had seen 'Houseful' and I asked one of my group, Tanya, to go to Akshay on the sets and do that scene where Arjun Rampal points to his eyes to say he was watching Akshay.

"When Tanya did that gesture, Akshay spontaneously did it back. He's such a sport and so cute. He has a great sense of humour and he knows so much on every topic."

Sonam had the unit of "Thank You" on hold in Toronto. They heaved a sigh of relief when she joined them.

Director Anees Bazmi being a family friend, she had asked for time to promote her film "Aisha" in India. This Bazmi happily granted even as Akshay Kumar grinned and bore the brunt of her absence. He did solo shots and a solo song as everyone waited for Sonam to join the unit.

Says Sonam: "I get along all with my co-stars because I don't get involved with them. Bobby Deol is so shy. His cousin Abhay is just the opposite. Abhay and Bobby are complete opposites. Me and Bobby love clothes and shopping."

She admits she isn't in touch with her first co-star Ranbir Kapoor any longer. "We've both been working too hard. We aren't that much in touch. I'd love to work with him again."

A.R. Rahman is human, not god: Vishal Dadlani

Bollywood music composer Vishal Dadlani is defending Oscar winner A.R. Rahman against all negative comments for the latter's composition "Jiyo Utho Bado Jeeto", which is the official song for the upcoming Commonwealth Games.

"The only infallible one is god, who sends music to us all. Everyone else is human, including Rahman. We're all allowed off days. Be nice. All you doubters, and haters, please understand that Rahman has done more for music and India's international image than almost anyone else," Dadlani of music director duo Vishal-Shekhar posted on Twitter.

Rahman, who is said to have charged over Rs.5 crore to compose the song, is receiving flak for lack of any catchy phrase a la 'Waka Waka'.

Nevertheless, a lot of his fans are also supporting him.

Dadlani is looking forward to meeting Rahman on the sets of Zee TV's "Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar".

"Today's guest on 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa...' is the man himself, Mr. A.R. Rahman. Oddly, I've never met him before! Can't wait," he posted.

While Dadlani is one of the judges on the show, Rahman will be a special guest in one of the upcoming episodes.

Katrina Kaif invited to watch Salman Khan's filmWhen the first screening of Salman Khan starrer "Dabangg" took place for its cast and crew, Katrina Kaif was shooting right in front of the theatre and was invited in. But she couldn't go.

This comes amid much speculation over Salman and Katrina's relationship.

As Salman's brothers and the rest of the family walked into the theatre in Film City Saturday night, they were in the mood to invite Katrina and the rest of the crew too of "Tees Maar Khan" to watch "Dabangg". Apparently Salman wanted the team to join them.

"Sure enough, Salman's sister Alvira walked out from the theatre to where Katrina, Farah Khan and the gang were shooting. Alvira personally invited Farah's team to watch 'Dabangg' with them. Unfortunately, it was not possible as Farah's shooting went on till late," a source said.

Katrina and Alvira bonded like really close buddies, the source said.

Confirming the incident, actor Sonu Sood says, "It's true Farah Khan and her crew were shooting nearby. But they couldn't join us."

Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha and his wife were also conspicuous by their absence at the screening as "Dabangg" is their daughter SOnakshi's debut film.

Abhay Deol say he isn't competitive

Abhay Deol say he isn't competitiveAbhay Deol, who has carved a niche for himself in Bollywood in a short span, says it doesn't matter to him whether he is doing a lead role in a film or not since he is quite secure about his career.

"When I select a film, I go with the script, I don't see whether I'm doing a lead in the film or not. I'm quite secure about my career so these things don't matter to me. If that was the case then I wouldn't have done 'Aisha' at all," Abhay told reporters here.

When asked about his role in Zoya Akhtar's "Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara", for which he had been shooting in Spain, the 34-year-old said he is glad Akhtar offered him this role.

"This film is about three friends being played by Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and myself. It's a wonderful film and I'm glad that Zoya offered me this role. Also I got to work with Hrithik and Farhan, who are wonderful people - that was a bonus," said Abhay.

"Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara", which is a story around male bonding, also stars Kalki Koechlin and Katrina Kaif.

The actor was speaking at an event here, where he was announced brand ambassador of Indian menswear brand Indian Terrain.

Throwing light on his success mantra, Abhay, who has done films like "Socha Na Tha", "Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd.", "Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!" and "Dev.D" among others, revealed that to succeed in life it's important to have a vision.

"If you want to succeed in life, its very important to have a vision, to have an idea about what you want to achieve. You should also know about your pros and cons so that you can enhance your pros and work on your cons.

"Another thing that works for me is that I'm not a competitive person. Competitive people lose their individuality trying to do what others are doing," he expressed.

The actor, who is the nephew of veteran actor Dharmendra, also informed that he doesn't regret doing any of his films.

"I have no regrets. I stand by all my films. Definitely I like some more than others, but have no regrets," he said.

Abhay Deol not to endorse cigarette, Fair & Lovely

Posted: 06 Sep 2010 11:17 PM PDT

Abhay Deol not to endorse cigarette, Fair & LovelyBollywood actor Abhay Deol, who is quite choosy about the kind of brands he endorses, revealed that he would never endorse a cigarette brand or the fairness cream Fair and Lovely.

"I will never endorse a cigarette brand because that's something very bad for health. Also I will never endorse Fair & Lovely because it makes the generation believe that you are nice and successful only if you are fair.

"This is a very demeaning thing and I would never want to be a part of something like that," Abhay told reporters here.

However, the actor feels that there is nothing wrong in endorsing a liquor brand.

"I have no problems in endorsing a liquor brand because there is nothing inherently wrong with it. Even the doctor says that if you have a drink sometimes, it doesn't do anything to your body," he said.

"If people don't abuse it and drink responsibly, there is nothing wrong with it," he added.

Abhay was present at the event as the brand ambassador of Indian menswear brand Indian Terrain.

Asked about his style statement, the actor said: "In person, I don't experiment a lot with my look. I like it subtle and simple. I'm a casual person and I like wearing jeans and t-shirt the most."

Milind Soman out from 'Khatron Ke Khiladi 3'

Posted: 06 Sep 2010 11:15 PM PDT

Milind Soman out from Khatron Ke Khiladi 3He is a national level swimmer and among the fittest of former supermodels in India, yet Milind Soman became the first contestant to be eliminated on action adventure show "Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi 3", and that too due to an underwater stunt.

Even at 44, Milind makes women go weak in the knees owing to his Greek god looks and fit body.

However, he willingly backed out when he had to go underwater in Rio de Janeiro's Teresopolis Farm to unlock weights hung under a sheet of fire. Even though the stunt may not have been too tough, it was the chilling six degrees temperature of water that held Milind back - and caused his elimination.

"I should have tried more especially because it was a swimming stunt. I could have done it easily," he lamented after he lost.

Apart from Milind, funnyman Cyrus Broacha and former supermodel and actor Rahul Dev too had underperformed. However, they gave up much later than Milind, who withdrew from the stunt within less than three minutes.

The third season of "Fear Factor -Khatron Ke Khiladi" went on air on Colors Monday with Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra as the new host.

The 28-year-old actress sports a grungy look in the show, and seems to be trying a bit too hard to throw attitude to match up to action hero Akshay Kumar, who had hosted the past two seasons of the deadly show.

But her softness came through the tension for the safety of the 13 contestants on the show. But if sources are to be believed, she is supposed to be quite a whip-wielding dictator in Rio de Janeiro where all the stunts are being shot.

The ongoing season was earlier supposed to have cricketers as contestants but now it boasts of hot male celebrities like Dino Morea, Rahul Bose, Shabbir Ahluwalia, Karan Singh Grover, filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor, car racer Armaan Ebrahem and squash champion Ritwik Bhattacharya, apart from actor Manjot Singh, Cyrus and Rahul Dev. Each male celebrity is teamed up with one non celebrity female contestant.
