The former director of China''s State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) was executed.

He was the fourth senior official to be sentenced to death in recent years.

The 63-year old ex-drug czar…he is ex-everything now, was found guilty of taking about $850K in bribes and dereliction of duty.

Some 21 people were killed by drugs that were licensed under his watch. Among those, six bogus drugs were approved that killed at least 10 people last year.

Gifts were received through his wife and

 

 

 

children.

Arguments that the punishment was too severe were defeated.

The man is now history. Went to sleep and never woke up.

Is the death penalty too severe for someone like this who abuses his power resulting in the death of others?

Dance India Dance is a reality dance show that airs on the Indian satellite television channel Zee TV.

The show has been produced by UTV Software Communications and has become India’s largest dance-based reality show.

The show is to be choreographed by some of the most popular Indian choreographers, such as Terrence Lewis, Remo D’Souza and Geeta Kapur.

Bollywood actor, Mithun Chakraborty is the grandmaster of the show. The show airs every Friday and Saturday.

The judges do a fine job of judging and tutoring their students. The Grand Finale is on Saturday, May 30th, 2009.

Why April 15th was chosen as Tax Day

My CPA* explained to me why April 15th is Tax Day.

In 1913, Congress designated March 1st as Tax Day AFTER the passage of the 16th ammendment.

In 1918, Congress pushed the date forward to March 15th and it stayed there until 1954, the year yours truly was born, as if that had anything to do with it. I suppose my dad enjoyed having a 7th dependent. Anyway…

In 1954, the date was moved to April 15th where it has remained until now.

The explanation – the longer the government can refrain from making refunds (if you get one), the longer the government can hang on to our/your money.

“The taxpayer; that’s someone who works for the federal government, but doesn’t have to take a civil service examination.” -Ronald Reagan

What my accountant couldn’t explain is why April 15th and the mention of Tax Day strikes fear or panic or apprehension, even guilt at procrastinating so long into the hearts of normally law abiding citizens.

Matthew 6:25-34 applies when it comes to worrying and fretting.

* I realize when I say “My CPA” or my accountant, I might sound cool. What that really means is that the guy who does my taxes is a CPA and he lets me call him every once and while to ask him questions. Nothing cool here about me.

A man in old China was almost caught trying to smuggle opium in his bamboo poles when a simple bumpkin took his pipe and rapped it on the poles just as a customs official walked by.

The smuggle paid off the bumpkin who was totally unaware of why he was being asked to not bang his pipe on his poles.

The expression came to symbolize extortion or fleecing money from someone who is in a precarious position and needs to pay money to cover themselves.

There are lots and lots of corrupt officials in China, especially officials with mistresses who are having their 'bamboo poles rapped' by their, um, ladies.

Salman Khan’s bloody eye, photos

Salman Khan recently had a scratch in his eye and the blood clot can be seen in his eye in the images.
Salman Khan recently let down Colors Channel and Bigg Boss Producer's
plans of shooting him on Sunday for a special telecast on Monday for
their Bigg Boss 4 episode. This special episode was planned to deviate
viewers from the opening show of KBC 4 on Monday at the same time being
hosted by the great Amitabh Bachchan on Sony.

Salman Khan tweeted a clarification explaining that he is, in fact,
suffering from a blood clot in the eye due to which his vision is
unclear and he had to stick to shades for the fashion show,

"Thanks for the concern. It was just a small scratch near the eye
but because of all the commitments with 'Bigg Boss', launch of 'Being
Human' watches…and so the blood clot spread in the whole eye. I was ok
to walk the ramp without the glares but everyone who saw my eye got
scared so I thought it  best to wear the chashmas (glasses)…Black, hazel,
brown, light brown etc , so for a few days I have 1 red and 1 light
brown hehehe enjoy."

Vivek Oberoi to marry Priyanka Alva on Oct 29, postpones honeymoon due to busy schedule

The wedding preparations are in full swing for actor Vivek Oberoi and
his fiancée Priyanka Alva who are said to enter wedlock on October 29.

Unlike other stars who keep such affairs secret, Vivek talked openly
about the wedding and reception while appearing on an entertainment
channel.

"We will be hosting a grand reception in Mumbai where chefs from all
over the country (coming from a particular chain of hotel) will be
dishing up a lavish spread of their signature dishes. The wedding will
be in Bangalore, on this huge property owned by Priyanka's family."

And what about the dream honeymoon? "No honeymoon for us right away
as I am busy with the promotions of Rakht Charitra. But we're planning
something sometime in November. Priyanka likes deep-sea diving and I
like flying planes, so maybe we could do a bit of both."
