Katrina Kaif misses her college life Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif longs for the carefree time of her college life when she even did not need to get concerned about homework thanks to her friends, a Pakistani newspaper reported Thursday.

"When I entered an engineering college at 16, I had not even thought of a Bollywood career. In this time, I had no need to get worried about homework as my friends themselves let me copy their homework," Urdu daily Jang quoted Katrina as saying.

Katrina said she felt nostalgic for those days "free from any check and full of merriment".

"But now, it is not like that. Everything has changed. Having become part of the filmy and modelling community, I have to think a lot before taking any step," she said.

Deepika Padukone And Imran Khan to paired again for new movieImran Khan and Deepika Padukone will once again be seen together in Homi Adajania's yet untitled film.

The makers of the film were in a dilemma for a long time about whom to cast opposite Imran in the quirky comedy. However, after watching Imran-Deepika's chemistry in trailers of Kunal Kohli's yet-to-to be released film "Break Ke Baad", they decided to once again cast the two actors together.

The script of the film is being written by writer-director Imtiaz Ali, who has helmed movies "Jab We Met" and "Love Aaj Kal".

This is Adajania's second film as a director. He had previously won critical accolades for his directorial debut "Being Cyrus", which starred Saif Ali Khan. It is being produced by Saif's ex-business partner Dinesh Vijan.

Contactmusic.com reports, Anderson is baring all for the January 2011 issue, cavorting naked in a pool as a homage to Ekberg's infamous scene in Rome, Italy's Trevi Fountain with Marcello Mastroianni in the 1960 movie classic "La Dolce Vita".

"Pamela Anderson is in the (Playboy) Mansion swimming pool, posing for the January cover in a tribute to 'La Dolce Vita'," Playboy mogul Hugh Hefner posted on Twitter.

Anderson landed her first Playboy cover way back in 1989, and was named Playmate of the year in 1990.

Pakhi Tyrewala wangles early entry into husband's film

Posted: 22 Oct 2010 04:40 AM PDT

Pakhi Tyrewala wangles early entry into husband's filmIt pays to be the director's wife, specially if you happen to be as spirited as Pakhi who makes her debut as a leading lady in Abbas Tyrewala's "Jhootha Hi Sahi".

Pakhi's character was to enter the narrative after more than 30 minutes. The debutante actress felt that was way too long a wait. She has now convinced her director-husband to let the audience see her in a song sequence that comes much before her character was supposed to enter the plot.

Pakhi explains: "It is not as if a new song has been added to the narrative for my sake. The song was there all along. It was just repositioned in the narrative to come earlier than scheduled."

Pakhi is aware she's getting a dream launch in her husband's film, though not a conventional one.

Says Pakhi: "I don't enter the film in slow motion. Nor do I get into a costume change in every frame. I play a normal girl. And, yes, I am not the central character in 'Jhootha Hi Sahi'. John Abraham's character is far more central to the plot. I should know. I wrote the script."

Not that Pakhi sees herself in every film she writes. Priyanka Chopra, an actress Pakhi admires, would be ideal in the next script.

"I am not here to write films only for myself. After 'Jhootha Hi Sahi' I'd be hopefully noticed by other scriptwriters and directors and be cast in their films!"

Pakhi is very clear about making a career in acting. "I'm here to stay. At least that's the intention. I'm aware 'Jhootha Hi Sahi' is not the kind of launch that would make audiences go nuts about me. There aren't too many stand-alone shots for me. During a large part of the narrative I am part of an ensemble."

Pakhi, it is said, wrote "Jhootha Hi Sahi" only so she could share screen space with her college crush John Abraham. The spunky aspirant doesn't deny she had a thing about John.

"When I met him for the first time we exchanged pleasantries and then I walked straight into a French window. Luckily, nothing got broken. But my crush did get crushed."

There are intimate moments in the film between John and Pakhi. And it must have been awkward to be directed in them by her husband.

Says Pakhi: "At the end of the day we are all professionals. And really, how much passion can you squeeze out of a love scene when you're shooting in restricted areas of London where you have exactly 25 seconds before the director, who happens to be your husband, calls cut and we run off to avoid traffic?"

Oh, and Pakhi is Size 00P which in fashion parlance is a lot thinner than Size 0.

"It comes from being petite in frame and hitting the gym really hard to stay paper-thin," says Pakhi, who lives in a large family that takes care of her home while she pursues her acting aspirations.

Abbas and Pakhi are to move into their new home soon. "That got sinfully delayed because of 'Jhootha Hi Sahi'. The film has taken three years of our life. Maybe now we can go back to doing what normal couples do," ends Pakhi.

Lata Mangeshkar loves watching 'KBC', 'CID'

Posted: 22 Oct 2010 04:36 AM PDT

Lata Mangeshkar loves watching 'KBC', 'CID'She has stopped her riyaz and spends time catching up on her favourite TV programmes, including Amitabh Bachchan's "Kaun Banega Crorepati" and popular crime series "CID". Melody queen Lata Mangeshkar, 81, is enjoying her well-deserved leisure time after more than 60 years of singing.

The Nightingale also prefers to be extremely choosy about film songs she wants to sing.

"Everyone says that I should sing more often because people want to hear my voice. But the fact is that even I should like the songs to be able to sing them," Lata, the winner of Bharat Ratna award, India's highest civilian honour, told IANS in an interview.

Lata has recorded songs for over 1,000 Bollywood movies and sung in more than 36 regional Indian languages. She is the second vocalist ever to have received the Bharat Ratna.

She has just launched a five-CD album of her old songs.

The album called "Aapki Seva Mein...Main Aur Mere Saathi", has evergreen melodies sung by artists like S.D. Burman, Mukesh, Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar and Ustad Bade Gulam Ali Khan among others, and was launched under the banner of Saregama India Limited.

Lata says she now sings very rarely. The last she was heard this year was in "Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyun".

Lata, who is fond of Sunidhi Chauhan and Shreya Ghoshal among the current lot of singers, likes to watch TV in her free time, especially thriller fictional show "CID".

"Now I don't do riyaas (practice). So in my free time I sometimes like to read. But usually I am fond of watching TV especially 'CID'. Nowadays, I also watch 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' because I like Amit ji and he is the host so I like watching that," said Lata.

Asked about the reason behind her distancing herself from film songs, the legendry singer told IANS: "Everything has changed today. Like films have changed today. There are different types of acting, dance, action, similarly music has also changed to suit that," she added.

So is she of the view that music was better in the olden times?

"It's better for me not to comment on that. Audiences are the best judge and they know," she answered.

Among the existing filmmakers she admires Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

"He (Sanjay) is very nice. I have heard some songs of his films and with that I understood that he knows what is good music and his choice of music is very good," Lata said.

"Also, the music directors and the kind of music he likes is amazing. He likes the works of greats like Jaidev," she added.

Bhansali has always been vocal about his respect for Lata and is even working on an album dedicated to her. This time even the singer went all out to praise the filmmaker.

Even though Lata has drastically cut down on her film projects, she is keeping herself busy with other ventures.

Speaking about her CD, she says: "It took us one year to compile this album. All the songs are old and the ones that I have heard since childhood, songs that have had a very deep impact on me. I have chosen such songs in this album. And then the rest are songs which are all duets with me and some legendary artists."

So why the name, "Aapki Seva Mein..."?

"We chose this name because the first Hindi playback that I did was a song from the film 'Aapki Seva Mein'. It was a thumri and it was recorded in 1946. We thought of using that song in this album but we could not because of certain reasons. So we thought to atleast name the album on that song," explained the legend.

Starting her career in 1942 with songs in Marathi, Lata's first Hindi song was "Paa lagoon kar jori" for Vasant Joglekar's movie "Aap Ki Seva Mein" in 1946. Two years later, composer Ghulam Haider gave Lata her first major break with the song "Dil mera toda" in "Majboor" and after that there was no looking back for her.

She has worked with all the major composers of the bygone era and mesmerised the current lot too.

From 'The Hangover' Mel Gibson's cameo removedHollywood actor Mel Gibson's cameo in "The Hangover" sequel has been axed amid reports that the movie's cast angrily objected to it.

Director Todd Phillips has confirmed he was forced to scrap Gibson's cameo following tensions on-set, reports imdb.com.

"I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of (Warner Brothers boss) Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realise filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew," said Phillips.

The "Braveheart" star has had a tough 2010 following his nasty split from ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, who has accused the actor of beating her in a violent altercation in January.

Split was tearful, says Christina Aguilera

Split was tearful, says Christina AguileraSinger Christina Aguilera revealed that her separation from husband Jordan Bratman was painful.

"It's not easy, and there have been a lot of tears and sadness. It's impossible to redefine yourself and your life overnight," she said.

"Thankfully, I have my mom and a small group of close friends who are there for me 24/7 and whom I can trust and depend on. On days when it feels impossible to even get out of bed, much less function as a mother, their support and encouragement have kept me moving forward," she added.

However, Aguilera refuses to comment on the reasons the marriage broke down, insisting that she is looking to the future for the sake of their young son Max, reports aceshowbiz.com.

She said: "Out of respect for my husband, I prefer to keep the specifics private. Right now, I'm just trying to figure out how to make it through each day. Thankfully, I have Max to keep me on a sane path. His needs and happiness are my top priorities, and my biggest concern is to protect him and make him feel safe."

Singer Cheryl Cole says 'Girls Aloud' will soon reuniteSinger Cheryl Cole confirms that the Girls Aloud group is set to come back together, as they have signed a deal.

The "Promise This" singer has enjoyed huge solo success since the group - which also consists of Nadine Coyle, Sarah Harding, Nicola Roberts and Kimberly Walsh - took a break last September. She is adamant they will reunite as they have signed a deal.

"We have a three album deal with the record label - we signed it before we took a break. I actually think this break is really important for us as people. Forget artists and whatever we're doing as that, just for us as women. We've been together since I was 19," contactmusic.com quoted her as saying.

"We're all young women now and we were living and breathing each other. It was intense and it's been nice to learn about yourself as I felt we'd just morphed into one person. We needed this space to grow."

"Nadine's releasing her first album so she needs that time. So we kind of all just need a bit more time," she said.

Nicolas Cage to make people aware against organised crime

Posted: 22 Oct 2010 04:17 AM PDT

Nicolas Cage to make people aware against organised crimeHollywood actor Nicolas Cage is urging international community to stand up against organised crime and help victims of human trafficking.

The actor, who was named a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador for Global Justice last year, appealed to non-governmental organisation executives, judges, prosecutors, doctors and religious leaders to work together to eradicate the "highly contagious" problem.

"Organised crime is too big for communities or even states to confront on their own. States must work together... No part of the world is immune to trafficking and organised crime," imdb.com quoted him as saying.

He also highlighted the growing crime rates in impoverished, lawless communities in which victims are often forced into prostitution, piracy or the army, while others become addicted to drugs or infected with HIV.

He said: "There are many kinds of victims of organised crime, and...children are among the most vulnerable."

Colors TV moves court against 'Bigg Boss' ouster from Lonavala

Posted: 22 Oct 2010 04:11 AM PDT

Colors TV moves court against 'Bigg Boss' ouster from LonavalaThe Colors TV channel Friday moved the Bombay High Court against the Lonavala Municipal Council's (LMC) eviction orders to its reality show "Bigg Boss-4".

A channel spokesperson said a writ petition has been filed with the Bombay High Court after the civic council's CEO Yogesh Godse served it a notice to stop the shooting of the show in Lonavala and vacate the premises.

The petition - in which the channel has sought a stay on the LMC order - is expected to come up for hearing later Friday, according to the channel spokesperson.

The LMC gave a jolt to Colors TV Thursday, ordering it to stop the shooting of "Bigg Boss-4" and move out of the premises as the channel's documents were not in order.

In the notice, the LMC pointed out that despite repeated reminders, the channel had not submitted the requisite documents and maps of the property where the shooting is being done.

Accordingly, the permission and no-objection certificate for the shooting could not be granted, the notice added.

It ordered the channel management to immediately stop the shooting, failing it would initiate necessary legal proceedings.

"The channel has been told to pack up shooting today (Thursday) itself and move out of the hill station, as per our demands last week. We had objected to the presence of the two Pakistani celebrities on the show which has created a law and order problem here," Prakash Porwal, Pune district treasurer of social worker Anna Hazare's Bhrashtachar Virodhi Jan Andolan Nyas, told IANS.

Porwal pointed out that the LMC had already issued permission and no-objection certificate to the channel for the shooting on the abandoned factory premises of Anti-Friction Bearings Company Ltd.

He claimed the civic council's move came after he served a notice to Yogesh Godse Oct 12, threatening to drag him to court for violating the provisions of change of user - by permitting the shooting for "Bigg Boss-4" - which goes against a Bombay High Court ruling.

"Some time ago, the Bombay High Court had ruled that change of user would not be permitted for any property in the town's jurisdiction. The venue where the shooting is being held is an old factory which has now been hired for commercial purposes. We have raised objections to this," Porwal told IANS.

Besides, Porwal added that the presence of the Bigg Boss team had shattered the peace and calm of the quiet hill-station, around 120 km from Mumbai.

The town has seen a shutdown, several protests by the Shiv Sena, and fortress-like security since more than a fortnight after the shooting for "Bigg Boss-4" started.

Amitabh Bachchan praises cleaner, greener DelhiBollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who is here to receive the National Award, Friday said the capital looks much greener and cleaner after the recently concluded Commonwealth Games.

"Delhi…hospitable, neat and clean and built to event moment. Greener pastures, pavements uncluttered and clear, just a general sense of things in order and in working system … and this despite all that we have been reading and report assessing," Amitabh posted on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com.

"Drive past a few of the historic arenas of the Commonwealth Games, looking large and impressive," he added.

The 68-year-old will receive the best actor National Award for his performance as a progeria-affected child in his home production "Paa". He says he is looking forward to meeting his friends from the industry and other dignitaries at the ceremony.

'Do Dooni Char' shows teacher's viewpoint

Posted: 22 Oct 2010 03:23 AM PDT

'Do Dooni Char' shows teacher's viewpointHabib Faizal, who has made his directorial debut with "Do Dooni Chaar", says he wanted to highlight the plight of teachers in today's India and in future too he would like his movies to be rooted in the working class.

"I'd often wonder why our academicians are so underpaid. We live in an acquisitive world. In every city of India, kids look out of their home windows at big cars parked outside, wondering when they can get one of those," Faizal told IANS.

The character of the underpaid teacher is based on Faizal's own teacher Kewal Arora.

"I chose Delhi because it's a milieu I know well. But the me-too syndrome exists everywhere," says Faizal.

He fondly recalls how easily Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, who star in the film, blended into the locations in Delhi where they shot.

"Rishi Kapoor ceased to be the iconic star in Delhi. He became so much part of the Delhi-Punjabi milieu that soon plate-loads of delicious food started reaching our location from all the neighbours. That was a good thing. Because I had made it very clear to Rishiji that he was not supposed to lose even an ounce of his bulk. My protagonist Santosh Duggal had to be roly-poly," Faizal says.

He credits a lot of the film's efficacy to its lead.

"Once I had Rishiji and Neetuji playing protagonists, I had nothing to worry about. In 'Do Dooni Chaar', I wanted to bring forward the plight of our teachers. But not at the cost of entertainment value. First and foremost, I wanted audiences to like my film," he says.

He has no intention of doing issue-based films and says he doesn't even know when he'll direct his next movie. But he is sure about his priorities.

"I've a 14-year-old daughter whose future I have to secure. I do know that whatever I direct next will again be rooted to the working class and its desires and longings."

"But I am certainly not going to bring up the plight of a specific group of professionals in our country in every film I direct. 'Do Dooni Chaar' was about teachers being underpaid. My next film won't be about the life of doctors or engineers or call-centre workers. I don't want to become the Arthur Hailey of filmmaking," Faizal says.
