Karan Johar's next movie will be a full-fledged musical

Karan Johar's next movie will be a full-fledged musicalKaran Johar's next directorial venture is finally in place. He has decided to make a fun musical with at least 10 songs, which is a complete departure from the mood of his last offering "My Name Is Khan".

"In 'My Name Is Khan' I couldn't have my protagonist singing on screen. Though I'm very proud of its songs, I somehow feel deprived when I don't do full-on lip-sync songs. My next will be a full-fledged musicals with the characters singing away on screen. At the moment that's all I can tell you," said Karan who was down with malaria.

Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol starrer "My Name Is Khan" was released early this year and it was about the after-effects of 9/11 in the US.

Thanks to his unscheduled break due to a sudden bout of malaria, Karan got time to ponder deeply over what he wants to direct next.

"I suppose out of every setback some good is bound to happen. So yes, that elusive idea for my next film for which I had even taken time off to be in New York, but came back empty-brained, is finally locked in," he said.

"I don't think I should be talking about it so soon. But I can't help it. Yes, after a serious film like '...Khan' I am moving into the fun zone. I am doing a fun-and-frolic film. I don't care if 'frolic' is too frivolous a word. That's what I am doing in my next."

On Saturday evening, Karan had Amitabh Bachchan over for dinner. Would it be correct to assume that the mega-star would feature in his next directorial venture?

"Amitji just came home for a conversation dinner and an evening with me and my mother. Every time I speak to him, I feel blessed. I'm very fortunate to have not just known him but also worked with him. Of course, I'd love to work with him again and with Abhishek."

Karan intends to invite Shah Rukh Khan and Amitabh as solo guests on his chat show "Koffee With Karan".

"With them there's no combination that makes any sense any more," said Karan who is currently hosting the third season of the show which went on air Sunday on STAR World.

"Fortunately, I had shot four episodes before I fell ill. So there's a bank. I'm proud of what I've shot so far. People talk about Imran Khan-Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor-Deepika Padukone being rivals. On my show they got along so well," he said.

Interestingly, Deepika is said to have confirmed on Karan's show that it was Ranbir whom she had accused of two-timing in print.

"I'm not saying anything. Just watch my show," he said.

Rakhi Sawant murdered our son, says Laksham Prasad's family

Rakhi Sawant murdered our son, says Laksham Prasad's familyA 24-year-old man from Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh who appeared on a reality show featuring Rakhi Sawant was so upset by the reportedly "indecent remarks" made against him by the Bollywood item girl that he stopped eating and died, his family alleged Thursday.

Laksham Prasad, a resident of Jhansi's Prem Nagar town, was upset after Rakhi termed him "impotent" on her reality show 'Rakhi Ka Insaaf'. He died on Wednesday, his family alleged Thursday.

According to Prasad's mother Savitri Ahirwal, Sawant had termed her son "impotent" while trying to settle the dispute between him and his wife on the reality show.

"My son was so upset with the indecent remarks that he stopped meeting any outsiders or neighbours, who used to laugh at him referring to the remarks by Rakhi Sawant...They (neighbours) had seen the show and how that girl (Sawant) referred to my son as 'namard and napunsak' (impotent),'' Ahirwal told reporters Thursday, a day after Prasad died.

"Upset over the remarks, my son went into acute depression and even stopped eating food... He gradually became weak and frail and ultimately died yesterday... No one other than Rakhi Sawant is responsible for the untimely death of my son,'' she added.

According to the family members, in October Prasad along with his wife Vineeta and her family had appeared on 'Rakhi Ka Insaaf', in which Sawant plays the role of a judge and announces verdicts in cases of domestic violence, marital discord and others.

"Our main objective was to settle the dispute between Lakhsham and his wife Vineeta. We would have never opted for the show if we knew that the girl (Sawant) would ill-treat Laksham in such a manner on national television,'' said Balbir Ahirwal, Prasad's maternal uncle.

Prasad and Vineeta were married in February 2010. A month after the marriage, they started living separately following a marital discord.

Prasad's family members said they would register a case against Rakhi Sawant with the police.

"We will not spare Rakhi Sawant...She will have to pay the price for the death of my nephew. No one has the right to abuse anyone... We will also try to submit the video footage of the programme in which Rakhi Sawant can be seen abusing Lakshman,'' said Ahirwal.

When contacted, police inspector A.K. Singh told IANS, "As of now we have not received any complaint against Rakhi Sawant, but we will surely take necessary action if the family members of the deceased approach us.''

Amisha Patel feels Ashmit doing well in Big Boss 4

Amisha Patel feels Ashmit doing well in Big Boss 4Bollywood actress Ameesha Patel says her younger brother Ashmit who is locked up in the 'Bigg Boss' house and was recently the target of inmate Dolly Bindra's loud and nasty comments about his past has handled the situation in a very mature manner.

Ashmit, who is one of the contestants in the Colors reality show "Bigg Boss", was involved in an MMS scandal in the past.

"I think he has done a good job, he has been very honest about everything and of course you have those nasty people who always try to create controversies; but I think my brother has handled it in a very mature way," Ameesha, who was here to present designer Rocky S' collection, told IANS.

"I am following the 'Bigg Boss' show regularly because that is the only place where I get to see my brother, as we are not allowed to talk to him, no mobile or landline facility."

Ameesha also very sportingly tagged her brother as the "hot eye-candy" of the "Bigg Boss" house, who has been romantically linked to TV actress Sara khan and Pakistani actress Veena Mallik.

"I think he has got the right combination of being a friend and a flirt to everybody inside and I think it is great. I hear it often from other's that your brother is the only hot person and eye-candy in the house.

"Girls better chase him because if he is not flirting back then there is something wrong with him - he is not my brother. And everybody knows it is a show at the end of the day; it is not that he is going to get a bride back home."

The 35-year-old also admits she guides her brother on how to handle and deal with women.

"I have always told him to respect a woman and never hurt her feelings. There is no harm in healthy flirting till the time it makes the other one feel special. I don't like women getting insulted and have always advised him not to do that."

"Bigg Boss 4", being shot at a house in Lonavala, started Oct 3 with 13 contestants in a house without any communication with the outside world. The contestants are under constant camera surveillance. Ten contestants now remain on the show after three weeks.

Lindsay Lohan's father feels difficulty in having relationship with her

Lindsay Lohan's father feels difficulty in having relationship with herTroubled actress Lindsay Lohan's father Michael admits it's difficult for him to have a relationship with his daughter because they are both in the public eye so they are always being scrutinised.

"The only problem is when you are in the public eye like we are, the entire relationship is under scrutiny so it's hard. It's harder for her," contactmusic.com quoted him as saying.

Michael who has previously stated Lindsay as an addict to prescription drugs -- also revealed the "Mean Girls" star is doing well and has blamed the people she used to hang around with for her problems.

"I know for a fact she's focusing on herself. I see it more now than ever. I think her problems are just this business in general. They care more about themselves than the people around. People in this business can be very selfish."

Lindsay was ordered by a Los Angeles court to stay in rehab until Jan 3, 2011 after she tested positive for cocaine during a random drug test in September.

'Guzaarish' pays tribute to human suffering: Sanjay Leela Bhansali

'Guzaarish' pays tribute to human suffering: Sanjay Leela BhansaliAce Bollywood director Sanjay Leela Bhansali, who often focuses on mental or physical disorders in his movies, says someone has to pay tribute to human suffering. In his new film "Guzaarish", he has dealt with tragedy "the way it was done in 'Anand'".

"The constant theme of my films is when things are taken away from you - be it a person, be it love, be it anything - can the attitude towards life still be positive or do people become bitter, negative or senile," Bhansali told IANS in an interview.

"Is there anyone who is not suffering or not disturbed by anything? I think someone has to pay tribute to human suffering also," said the director.

"Guzaarish" tries to give an insight into people suffering from paraplegia and why such patients sometimes ask for euthanasia, which is yet to be legalised in India. Hrithik Roshan is the patient in the film, while Aishwarya Rai is his nurse.

"It's a very unique subject. It has been handled very, very sensitively, specially by the actors and their performances. We have taken care that it's done gently, correctly because it's a very important debate," said the 47-year-old.

"It's a debate that's not going to find answers very fast. It would take another few years, but we should start approaching the topic, we should understand why certain sections of people who are suffering in life are asking for it (euthanasia).

"It has never been dealt with before in Indian cinema. Of course, there is a lot of entertainment along with it so that it doesn't become a heavy subject. I would say, we tried to do it the way 'Anand' was made."

"Anand", a Hrishikesh Mukherjee film, showed Rajesh Khanna as a terminal cancer patient who laughs his way through life - and death. It also starred Amitabh Bachchan.

Bhansali has touched different kinds of human suffering in his celluloid creations such as "Khamoshi: The Musical", "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam", "Black" and "Saawariya" because he feels someone should pay tribute to human suffering.

The subject of "Guzaarish" is delicate, therefore Bhansali did extensive research through published facts before shaping up the story. The film is releasing Nov 19.

"There were lots of cases that we kept reading, which are pending in court and it (euthanasia) is still not allowed in our country. There are lots of stories that touched our heart. We felt this is very poignant and why it's not been addressed. Then we met quadriplegics, young people who are in their mid 20s. We did a lot of research and then we came down to it," said Bhansali.

The director says he worked hard to evoke a debate on the subject through the film without hurting anyone's sentiment.

"We worked very hard for one-and-a-half years. We wrote how to make the songs, how to weave in entertainment in the script! This is done with mainstream actors with a mainstream budget for a mainstream audience. It's not an art house cinema. We looked at the matter up and down because we didn't want to hurt any sensibilities. We want to evoke a debate and want the subject to be understood."

Bhansali is certain that mainstream cinema can bring about a serious thought more effectively.

"Filmmaking for me is not sitting and cracking five jokes and doing some loud item numbers. Our concept of filmmaking in the last one year has become a little strange. I think through mainstream cinema and actors like Hrithik and Aishwarya, we can bring about a thought, an idea, a debate, within which you can entertain people and keep it more comfortable and accessible," said Bhansali.

He doesn't want to convey any message through "Guzaarish".

"It's not a message, it's a catharsis. There used to be a time when films like 'Bandini', 'Do Bigha Zameen' were made. Where are such films today?"

Salman Khan pledges bone marrow to help patientsBollywood star Salman Khan's philanthropic side is well known and now the actor has gone ahead and pledged his bone marrow to help people suffering from life-threatening diseases.

"I am pledging my marrow with MDRI (Marrow Donor Registry of India) so that in an emergency, if a patient's sample matches mine, I can be reached to donate my marrow," the 44-year-old actor said.

Salman's charitable foundation Being Human has also joined hands with the Marrow Donor Registry (India) to create awareness of how marrow donors can save lives.

Hindi Movie 'Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyun' Film Review

Posted: 12 Nov 2010 02:16 AM PST

Hindi Movie 'Dunno Y...Na Jaane Kyun' Film ReviewFilm: "Dunno Y…Na Jaane Kyun"; Cast: Zeenat Aman, Kabir Bedi, Helen, Kapil Sharma, Yuvraaj Parasher, Maradona Rebello, Rituparna Sengupta, Mahabanoo Mody-Kotwal, Asha Sachdev; Director: Sanjay Sharma; Rating: **

As far as scrutinizing a gay relationship is concerned, this isn't a patch on Ang Lee's "Brokeback Mountain". But still…it tries.

This fatally flawed look at the dark secrets of an Anglo-Indian family where the single mother sleeps with her cheesy boss for lack of choice and the elder married son with a child makes out with a man leaves us with some positive thoughts.

"Dunno Y…Na Jaane Kyun" is the first Hindi film to look at a gay relationship with some degree of dispassionate honesty. The script makes room for approximately 22-24 characters, which includes the entire malfunctional D'Souza family, their friends and lovers.

This is Sooraj Barjatya's "Hum Saath Saath Hain" gone to seed! The characters are not badly written. Even the performances are at times, convincing. And it takes inhuman amounts of guts for two male actors to make love on screen. Hats off to Kapil Sharma and newcomer Yuvraaj Parasher for strolling into alternate sexuality with such naked earnestness.

However, earnestness per se is not a redeeming quality unless compounded with creative conviction.

"Dunny Y" is high on drama, low on treatment and execution. Parts of unfolding trauma in the dysfunctional family are so strenuously dramatized, you wonder why director Sanjay Sharma did not go easy in the narration. Or why he chose to have the characters speak in English when some of them, including the film's leading man Kapil Sharma, are ill-at-ease in the lingo.

The dialogues often come out more forced than forceful. The talented cast too is unable to rise above the mundaneness of the material.

Zeenat Aman, as an abandoned wife and single mother, has the most interesting character to play. She struggles hard to make her lines sound believable. But she finally succumbs to pressures of pedestrianism that assail this well-meaning but aberrant film from all sides.

While the explicit gay love-making sequences are done with a bravado that's more corny than candid, a sub-plot about the gay protagonist's torrid affair with brother-in-law (Maradona Rebello) has potential. But by the time the 'neglected wife' and the in-house 'toyboy' get into a shower together, the passion and the pain of a family on the edge, have all been washed away.

"Dunno Y…"is a brave and unorthodox look at a malfunctional family's efforts to come to terms with the dark secrets in the closet. The courageous film looks at the question of forbidden desires. And the sheer pleasure of watching Zeenat Aman and Helen is incentive enough to overlook the film's fatal flaws.

Amitabh Bachchan to copyright his voice

Amitabh Bachchan to copyright his voiceBollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan seems to be irked by constant copyright infringements and the illegal use of his name for the promotion of products.

"I've called the lawyers and we will move court. This is what happens when people try to run a business through e-mails. And yes, the lesson learnt is, unless you get down yourself on your hands and knees, nothing moves in the right direction," Amitabh wrote on his blog www.bigb.bigadda.com

"The morning till now has been full of incidents related to copyright protection, for, there have been greater examples and infringements being discovered," he added.

The actor explained how a company selling basmati rice called Lakshmi Foods has done an exact imagery of his reality show "Kaun Banega Crorepati" in an advertisement.

"The set, the computers, the questions, the contestant being asked from an over the shoulder shot, in suggestion and the voice being used again to ask a question on the product being marketed... this is so unethical and legally wrong," he wrote.

"Another huge infringement has taken place concerning Airtel, the mobile and telephone carrier, about yours truly and the opportunity to be able to talk to me for a fee. This is simply unacceptable, there is no signed deal at all for this and on questioning they inform through our Vog managers that it has been a mistake!"
