I almost remember when I came across this nugget during my triathlon training days. Though I don’t remember the exact time, I do remember I laughed out loud. Reading it now made me laugh out loud again. If you can’t swim you drown. Obvious indeed. But, in truth not all that obvious. Some folk think that if they can swim, they can swim 1500 meters, or 2.4 miles or whatever the distance might be. Not so. If you get tired when you run, you walk. If you get tired on the bike, you fall over. If you get tired when you are swimming and can’t go on, you sink. And from there, it can get pretty ugly. There are three disciplines in triathlete and the participant must be capable in all three to complete the event. Each must be trained and mastered if the participant wants to compete or win. It reminds me of the 9 fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-25 – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23gentleness and self-control I don’t think that we will sink or even be disqualified if we fail to mature in any of the fruit, but being really bad at any one of them can be pretty bad form…and, well, maybe even enough to disqualify the Christian. At any rate, I know what it takes to train in three disciplines now. I aim to apply the same lessons to grow in all aspects of my Christian life, including but not only the Fruit of the Spirit. |

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences recently determined that about 17% of 2,000 teenagers living in New Delhi between the ages of 14-18 were obese. This is above the global average of 15%. A survey by Hewitt Associates showed that wages in India rose 13.8% in 2006. Middle class parents take home more than $22,000 annually. It seems the middle class parents are taking home a lot of fast food and empty calories as well. India is becoming too much like the West – fatter and too glued to the television. WHO is predicting that if trends continue, India could havev around 80 million diabetics by 2030 – more than 20% of the world's figure. |

China launched a remote-sensing satellite, “Yaogan V,” that will take earth satellite photos.The satellite was launched with a Long March-4B carrier rocket, the 114th of the Long March series of carrier rockets The satellite will be used for data collection and transmission:
1. land resources surveys, 2. environmental surveillance and protection, 3. urban planning, 4. crop yield estimates, 5. disaster prevention and reduction 6. space science experiments.
“Yaogan IV,” was launched earlier this month. “Yaogan III” was launched in Nov., 2007. The “Yaogan I” and “Yaogan II” satellites were launched in April 2006 and May 2007, respectively.
The satellite was developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp. developed the satellite. Shanghai Academy of Space flight Technology designed the rocket.
I wonder…what else can the satellite see? Don’t you? |
