Ski lift at Sugarloaf derails, six injured

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 06:58 PM PST

The Ski lift at Sugarloaf Mountain ski resort in Maine derailed today and at least 6 people were injured when their lift chairs fell 40 feet to the ground. Rescue efforts are underway.  Rescuers will have to throw ropes up over the lift cable and lower the stranded skiers with harnesses.

Hundreds of people may be stranded high up in their chairs as the lift is totally inoperable.  A section of cable is off the supports and cannot be moved.

High winds may have contributed to the  accident.

This Just In blog reports: Rescuers were swiftly bringing stranded skiers down from the broken-down chairlift at western Maine’s Sugarloaf Mountain resort,

With reported temperatures of around 8 degrees it is expected that some skiers may suffer from exposure to the cold while waiting to be rescued.

The accident happened around 10:30 EST and by an hour later five people had been lowered from their stranded chairs which were approximately 40 feet high.

The resort has not released any information on how many people are still stranded on the lift cable.

The Spillway East slope at Sugarloaf Mountain runs all the way to the top of the mountain.

Adam Sandler snowboard accident death is a rumor

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 06:56 PM PST

Another celebrity death hoax  is spreading across.  This time it involves Adam Sandler. Interestingly, a few days ago, Charlie Sheen was reported to have the same snowboarding accident in Switzerland, but it failed to gain as much attention as Adam’s rumored death did.

The accident supposedly happened in Zermatt, Switzerland at a ski resort. Adam Sandler’s representative called the report “irresponsible journalism.”

It is strange that the rumors of Adam and Charlie were nearly word for word duplicates. Wendy Michaels of famecrawler reports: The Adam Sandler death hoax rumor started with Global Associated News, who spread the false rumor: “Actor Adam Sandler is reported to have died shortly after a snowboard accident earlier today -December 28, 2010.”

That is how a complete obit can be published within minutes of a death.

Sometimes someone makes a mistake and saves an updated obituary in the active section and the world gets misinformed.  These are usually pulled quickly from the net after they are discovered.

194 Students Collapse from Malnutrition

Posted: 28 Dec 2010 11:48 AM PST

Some 194 students in a remote town in China are suffering from malnutrition.

At first, locals thought they had another SARS-like epidemic.

It wasn't food poisoning or any other disease that caused pain in the students' feet and hands.

It was peripheral nerve inflammation due to malnutrition. The kids weren't getting the basics in food that they needed.

Investigators headed for the dining hall where the affected teenagers ate, or in

this case didn't eat, suspecting that the source of the problem was there.

The source of the problem was that there wasn't enough food for them there.

The kids non-fresh rice was over-washed and the water was removed when themalnutrition.jpg rice was half-cooked and given to pigs.

What they ate was potatoes and Chinese cabbage. That's it.

When the students were administered B1 vitamins, they recovered after 3-5 days.

With all the money that China has these days, why do kids have to make do without enough food?
