Baroda entered the final of the Ranji Trophy by beating Karnataka in the semi-final that was played in Baroda. The game was exciting and full of wickets and got over on the second day itself.

Batting first, the Karnataka side was bowled out for 107 in their first innings and Robin Uthappa criticised the track for being too bowler friendly. Baroda did not do much better and were bowled out for 153, but in the end this 46-run lead proved to be very crucial.

Karnataka batted again and fared no better as they fell like nine pins for a score of 88, giving the Baroda side just 44 to chase. Baroda lost three wickets in the process in the second innings but managed to get to the total.

Actor Pete Postlethwaite passed away

Monday, January 3rd, 2011.The well known actor Pete Postlethwaite was passed away yesterday in a hospital in Shropshire. Cancer was the reason for the popular actor's death.

Steven Spielberg once said about Postlethwaite as "probably the best actor in the world today". He worked with Spielberg in two films in 1997.

The famous actor is very well known for his acting skills and nominated for Oscar for the performance in the movie "In The Name of The Father" for the year 1993.

There are many notable films for this actor and few of them are Brassed off in 1996, The Usual Suspects in the year 1995.

In 2003, Postlethwaite marched against the war in Iraq and was a vocal supporter for the Make Poverty History Campaign.

He was born in Washington and originally planned to be a priest, but destiny made him a wonderful actor on the Hollywood screen.

Prajavani staffers disappoints customers at large

The Prajavani employees of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board are disappointing its customers these days. In spite of its claim to solve the customer's problem on the spot, many of the customers have returned in anger.

N Chalapathi Rao, who had lodged a complaint of his water meter twice, has still not got any relief. "It is a small mistake and can be rectified in a short time. I am chasing all officials at Malakpet, Goshamahal and even complained earlier in the Prajavani at the Khairatabad office but my problem has not been addressed,'' he complained.

Another resident Dattu, who had approached Prajavani to get his name changed, as it was printed wrongly in the bill, had to return back disappointed as he couldn't get proper response from the staff. Some 200 customers who had come with their complains had returned un attended due to lack of response.

The Prajavani programme is held on every Monday from 10 am to 1 pm in all Board office, but on Monday the heated arguments between the officials and the customers was the only schedule of the day.

Temperature in Delhi drops causing fog

The MET department at Delhi has warned of dense fog conditions in the city. The conditions may prevail at the Indira Gandhi International airport on Tuesday.

Sources have said that, the visibility may be around 300 meters only. On Monday the minimum temperature recorded at the capital was 8.2 degrees which was one degree above normal.

Moreover the winds at 15-30 km/ph had made the day seem colder than it actually was. An MET official said, “The normal human body temperature is usually around 37 degrees Celsius; but cold winds can make one feel colder. The cold winds blowing over the plains right now are from the north where it has been snowing.”

The MET department also said that the minimum temperature in most parts of northern and central India was between 4 and 8 degrees. If the winds slow down now then there are possibilities of increase in pollution, which can result in fog. Any weather disturbance could increase the moisture levels in the atmosphere.

Suri killed in an encounter with police in Karnataka

The person behind the Jubilee Hills blast, Gangula Suryanarayana Reddy, popularly known as Suri, was arrested by the Yeshwantpuri police in Karnataka. Suri was arrested hardly 4 to 5 days after the blast, which had killed 26 people including six TV journalists of private TV channels.

“Innocents were killed. I regret it as my target was only Paritala Ravi. But I know I will end up on a post-mortem table one day,” Suri had said. Suri had aimed to kill Paritala Reddy as, seven members of Suri's family were killed by a TV bomb blast inside his residencein the year 1995. Suri believed that Paritala had planted the bomb inside his house.

And since then he had decided to take revenge from Paritala. "It was then he decided he would improvise, and he came out with a car bomb which killed 26 people in Jubilee Hills. Suri was sharp, cool-headed and very shrewd,” a police official said.

On Monday Suri was taken to the Apollo hospital, where he breathed his last, with bullet wounds which had hit him during the time of his arrest.

Bangalore, 4th January, 2011, counting of polled votes for the local governing councils such as Zilla panchayat anf Taluk panchayat will begin today. Around 171 centers across Karnataka state are arranged for this purpose.

Solar Eclipse on Jan 4th, 2011

NASA has already announced that there will be four partial solar eclipses and two total lunar eclipses this year.

This year's first partial solar eclipse is going to take place today that is on January 4th. It will start at 6:40:11 UT and will end at 11:00:54 UT.

The best eclipse, at which point the distance between the moon's shadow axis and the earth's center is at its minimum and this will happen at 8:50:35 UT, in Sweden.

Europe and northeaster Asia will witness visible eclipse near sunrise. Sunset eclipse will be seen over the western Asia.

North Africa and Arabian Peninsula will also witness a minor partial solar eclipse today. The immediate next solar eclipse is going to take place on June 1st of this year.
