The festival is marked and observed by wearing yellow traditional outfits. Saraswati, being the goddess of Knowledge and arts, is mostly worshipped in educational institutes. 'Poojas' are being performed on the first day of spring, which mostly falls in the month of January or February.

On this occasion, young children are taught to write their first words, ancestors are worshipped, Brahmins are fed and Lord Kamadev (the God of love) is worshipped. Apart from wearing yellow garments, yellow colored sweets are prepared and distributed among friends and family.
