Census of India 2011, concerns over declining child sex ratio Posted: 01 Apr 2011 01:45 AM PDT In-spite of introducing several laws on female foeticide and schemes to encourage the families to have girl child, the sex ratio in India has gone down. The child sex ratio has decreased to 914 females per 1000 males, which is the lowest record since independence. The provisional 2011 Census report released on Thursday has clearly indicated that the Indian society is still reluctant to prefer boys over girls, so that they could have a security for their future. The ratio has gone down to 914 from 927 in the year 2001. The Census commissioner of India C Chandramauli has expressed her concern over the recent reports. However, an increase has been noticed in the states like Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Mizoram and Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The state of Mizoram has the highest child sex ratio with 971 females per 1000 males, while Meghalaya has 970 per 1000 males. Normally the states like Punjab and Haryana have lower sex ratio, but in the recent years an increasing trend has been seen in the states. Haryana has 830 females, while Punjab has 846 females per 1000 males. However, the overall sex ratio at the national level has gone up by seven points, after the 2001 census, which has reached 940 females per 1000 males. |
Poonam Pandey challenged on Facebook to strip irrespective of laws Posted: 01 Apr 2011 12:44 AM PDT Ex-Kingfisher calendar babe and model Poonam Pandey has said that she is committed to strip for the Indian cricket team in case India lifts the World Cup. The model has been challenged on her Facebook profile that she should strip even if she is not permitted by the BCCI. Pandey in an interview has said that she is definitely going to keep her promise and is not going to back out in any case. "I can strip anywhere. Be it inside the dressing room or even in front of the stadium," Poonam said. Poonam has said that she has got all the support of her family and friends including her parents. Her parents are apparently proud of her that she is doing some thing for the Indian Cricket team and that they have no issues of her going nude. When asked Poonam if she would go against the law, as nudity is considered an offense in India, she said that she does not want to do anything against the law and that she would ask the permission of the BCCI bare it all. Shweta Sharma, a model, on Poonam’s Facebook profile had then challenged her saying that she should strip even if the BCCI does not permit her and that she shouldn't back out just because she wasn't permitted. |

Salman Khan’s Indo-Pak win party intervened by cops Posted: 31 Mar 2011 05:00 AM PDT While everyone celebrated the win of the Indian cricket team at the World Cup semifinals with Pakistan, Bollywood actor Salman Khan too had planned to party with his friends. The actor had gathered a few of his friends in Mumbai to watch the match, when the police interfered in the party and spoiled the mood. As soon as the Indians had inched towards to win, the actor along with his friends headed to a pub in Bandra area in Mumbai, India. Salman and his friends were all dancing and swaying to loud music, upon the victory of the Indians. But some of the residents of Bandra did not approve the noise and complained to the police. The police had then raided the pub, in the wee hours and had stopped the party. The cops had indeed spoiled the mood of Salman, after which the actor had to wind up the party. But this did not end here. Some of the media people, who had got the news were waiting outside near Salman's car. Salman had to then take the back door exit of the pub and caught a cab and had rushed to Galaxy Apartments. This is not the first time the police had intervened in a celebrity bash as there have been many similar instances of police intervention at celebrity parties in the past. |
