Women have been struggling for years in order to gain equality, peace, justice and development for themselves. They are divide based on languages, culture, economic, political, ethnic differences separated by national boundaries, but still stand undivided to celebrate the special occasion. During the time of French War, Lysistrata initiated sexual strike against men & Parisian women marched on Versailles to demand “liberty, equality, fraternity". Women’s suffrage has been demande sinse the time of expansion & turbulence in the industrialized world, hence arose the Idea of International Women’s Day at that century. There have been various important events taking place during that time, like Socialist Party of America declaring the Celebration of first National Woman’s Day at United States, 28 February. The Socialist International, Copenhagen approving at the conference, universal suffrage for women, in year 1910. Also steps like Right to vote, Right to Education, Right to enjoy equal status as men in homely and outside affairs, right to work were granted as per the conference being led by first three women elected at the Finnish parliament. Germany,Austria, Denmark, and Austria, Denmark, and Switzerland, in the year 1913 started celebrating International women’s Day. There was a Tragic Triangle Fire in New York City in the year 1911, March 25, which took the lives of over 140 girl workers hence had a significant impact on labour legislation at the USA. Following this there were many movements led by the Russian women in the time of World War I, to protest the lethal killing at the war, the lives of their sisters in other countries being destroyed, and for that there were many rallies marched, Strike for “bread and peace”, Czar being forced to abdicate and women being granted right to vote. Since then, four global United Nations women’s conferences have been held to win women’s rights and equal participation. Also The Charter of the United Nations in San Francisco, year 1945 gave agreement to proclaim gender equality and many more. The women have been able to win the present day status with great toil and sacrifices so let's join our hands and celebrate the special occasion of International Women’s Day. |

The biggest war tonight will be between the Kathryn Bigelow's The Hurt Locker and James Cameron's Avatar. The Oscars 2010 have both the movies with nine nominations with both James 'Avatar' Cameron and Kathryn Bigelow battling it out for best director and best picture categories. Oscar awards will see these two contrasting movies both in nature and spirit with Avatar being a 3D epic and The Hurt Locker being an Iraq war drama. While Avatar is a mind boggling earner with a gross of more than $2 billion, The Hurt Locker has an earning of meager $15 million. Oscars 2010 might just see Inglorious Bastard, this year's offering of Quentin Tarantino emerging as the dark horse winner in both the hotly contested categories due to split voting. The best acting category of Oscar awards 2010 has Jeff Bridges as the firm favorite and the same can be said for Sandra Bullock, the Blind Side's star. The Oscar awards 2010 will also see a wide British representation with best actor award seeing Colin Firth as the nominee for A Single Man and Carey Mulligan nominated for best actress award for An Education. The Oscars 2010 will see Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin as the hosts in tonight are scintillating ceremony. Sparklehorse’s Mark Linkous Commits Suicide Posted: 07 Mar 2010 05:36 AM PST Mark Linkous, the famous singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter committed suicide according to his publicist. Mark Linkous was best known for his work with Sparklehorse releasing four albums relating to imaginative ambient psych-folk. Mark Linkous was also involved with Daniel Johnston in his 2003 album Fear Yourself. Mark Linkous's music originated from a core of pain. It is fascinating to know that Mark Linkous was declared dead for two minutes after he took a dangerous mix of antidepressants and Valium on his tour to U.K. behind the Sparklehorse's debut. Mark Linkous had to undergo several surgeries to cure his damaged limbs. Still, he came back and recorded Good Morning; Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain and It's a Wonderful Life. The only fear Mark Linkous had after his technical death was that the part of his brain which he used to write songs might be damaged. Publicist of Markus Linkous confirmed that he had almost finished the new album before his death. |
