| Cyclone in Gujarat: Phet strengthens into severe cyclonic storm, Read IMD Declaration Posted: 02 Jun 2010 05:40 AM PDT Tropical cyclone ‘Phet’ emerged in the Arabian sea has intensified further into a brutal cyclonic storm, turned northwestward, and lay centralized at 1,000 km southwest of Naliya in Kutch region of Gujarat even as a few places of the state gained rain-showers. As per The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) “The current environmental condition and Numerical Weather Prediction models suggest the system would intensify further into a very severe cyclonic storm and move slowly in a north-northwesterly direction for the next 24 hours and then re-curve northeastwards towards Gujarat and adjoining Pakistan coast.” IMD officers told that under the pressure of ‘Phet’ widespread rain-showers with isolated heavy to very heavy falls would start over coastal districts of Gujarat from 4th June, and rise thereafter. In the mean-time, rain-showers were recorded in most parts of Amreli, Dharmpur in Valsad & some parts in coastal district of Jamnagar this morning. Too, sporadic rain-showers were filed in Palitana, Alang & Umrada districts of Bhavnagar district. Sky in the coastal cities of Gujarat was overcast with clouds & the temperature had come down significantly. As per to the weather section, cyclone Phet pace in the coastal districts of Gujarat would arrive 65-75 km/h by tomorrow & increase frequently. Sea would be rough with waves from southwesterly direction and fishermen have been suggested not to enter in the sea till tomorrow, they said. The ports in the state have too been asked to lift depressing threatening signal 2. |

| CitiFinancial of Citigroup Inc. to shut 376 Branches & cut 720 jobs, know the Reason Posted: 02 Jun 2010 02:54 AM PDT New York, NY, United States (DLN) – Citigroup Inc. yesterday declared that it prepares to shut down about 375 CitiFinancial branches across the U.S. & Canada, leading to the elimination of above 700 jobs. The bank too told that 182 of its U.S. branches will be changed into servicing centers, which supply information to customers who look for debt restructuring of loan modifications. McDowell told in a quote "This reorganization will enable CitiFinancial to continue lending to U.S. consumers while better serving its customers in need." Citigroup said 500 to 600 jobs will be reduced in the U.S. with about 330 branches being totally shut down. The left over job cuts & closing process will happen in Canada. The job cut shows about 6.4% of CitiFinancial's North American staff. |
