15 June 2010 – Direct Tax Code 2011, revised direct tax code by finance ministry The government today released its reviseddiscussion paper on Direct Tax Code (DTC). The first draft tax code wasreleased in August 2009 and received 1,600 comments. The first draft hadproposed a uniform corporate tax rate of 25%. The revised discussion paperaddresses 11 issues which includes the issue of wealth tax and generalanti-avoidance rule. the current distinction between short-term investment asset and long-term investment asset on the basis of the length of holding of the asset will be eliminated The finaldraft is set to take into account issues such as minimum alternate tax, specialeconomic zones, transfer pricing, general avoidance rules, IT exemption onsavings and taxation of charitable organisations.
