Pedro Joel Espinosa, an undergraduate majoring in community studies, facilitated the making of an "observational documentary" entitled SIN Verguenza (Shameless Voices), about the experiences of UCSC students from migrant backgrounds. The students featured in the film, which is a work-in-progress, include Espinosa; all are members of an organization called Students Informing Now, a support group that does educational outreach to middle-school, high-school, and college students regarding issues faced by students from immigrant, working class backgrounds.

The world tour continues for Samsung's Galaxy S line of handsets with news that China is set to see three variations of the device. Starting later this month with China Telecom, the country's largest carriers will have a model built specifically with their 3G varying standards in mind. However, China Unicom's GT-19088 will have WCDMA support whereas China Telecom's SCH-I909 will offer support for both CDMA and GSM networks. China Mobile completes the triumvirate with their TD-SCDMA model (GT-I9008) is somewhat more unique with iChinese CMMB mobile TV service and the Ophone 2.0 build of Android.

The Galaxy S has already seen a tremendous reception in other parts of the world with global sales already topping 3 million units. Launching in China will only add to Android's success and worldwide adoption. Samsung already has Galaxy S smartphones available with the other three wireless providers, and the Verizon Fascinate will complete the wireless carrier grand slam and allow Samsung to capitalize on the broadest possible distribution to maximize sales of its Android smartphone platform. Samsung sold more than a million Galaxy S devices before the smartphone was even available from Sprint, or Verizon--the largest of the four wireless providers.

Android 2.2 Froyo looks quite same on Galaxy S tablet. Samsung has kept most of the features unchanged or has altered them slightly. The features include desktop, sliding tray of applications, widgets, status bar on top and alerts you can drag down. The applications which have been updated are it's big screen, calendar, e-mail and music applications.

Beyond their simple appeal as sexy, high-end Android phones, what makes the Captivate and Vibrant especially interesting is that they are actually their respective carriers' only high-end Android phones at the moment. In other words: if 1GHz processors and high-res AMOLED displays are how you roll, these are basically the only game in town if you're on AT&T or T-Mobile -- particularly now that Nexus One sales are winding down. Do they rise to the challenge? Let's have a look.

Which one you prefer is mainly a matter of personal taste, though we'll caution you that you shouldn't form your opinion from these (or any) pictures alone. We had expected the Captivate's faux woven rear to be extraordinarily cheesy, for instance -- but in reality, it look quite good and it's made of some sturdy metal. Don't get us wrong, we still would've preferred a blank brushed metal cover in its place, but all things considered, it could look a lot worse. Samsung actually did something really cool with the micro-USB port. We've never been fans of the flimsy plastic or rubber flaps that you often find covering these -- especially since micro-USB was designed specifically with robustness in mind -- but Sammy sort of split the difference with the Galaxy S line by using a sliding door instead of a flap. It's easy to use, locks securely into place in both the closed and open positions, and you don't have to worry about the flap getting in your way or breaking off when it's pulled off for charging. Actually, we're pretty sure you could just leave the door permanently open and never worry about it again.

Stargate Universe to become that good, I remember thinking that it was a dark show with too much murky politics and that it wasn't respectful of the spirit of the Stargate franchise. But after a few episodes I had a better understanding of SGU, that the spirit of fraternity, responsibility and adventure was slowly building up. And it does make sense that we weren't served with a full-geared Stargate-like team from the start: those people on board the spaceship Destiny had to learn to trust each others first. Dr. David Rush, Colonel Everett Young, Camile Wray, Eli Wallace and the others aren't a family yet, but they're definitely becoming a team: they work together not just for their own survival, but for the protection of the whole crew.

The first season of Stargate Universe was a ratings hit for Syfy and the broadcaster was quick to commission a second year. Universe stars Robert Carlyle, Louis Ferreira and Brian J Smith. Although some might consider the story-line a bit clichéd, we all sat on the edge of our seats and couldn't wait to see the next episode. So they must have been doing something right. I think that you need to see all 6 episodes before passing judgement because there is a very good over-arcing story that runs throughout. The resolution of this plot-line was not only very exciting but also very moving. Well done, Richard Armitage and Andrew Lincoln! You were both magnificent in that final scene.

I feel that Kyogo is really an awesome teacher and a dancer. He has been very patient with us, guiding us with passion, and giving us words of wisdom in dance. Hanging out with him is pure joy as he's a very nice and outgoing person. I really admire his style of Hip Hop and I like his style too. Too bad he won't be in Osaka in October Marzipan.

I realized late on this day, when I was already at my in-laws house celebrating Labor Day that I had Something To Do that I had forgotten about. The album begins with the title track, and we're told via the press release told that it is "an utterly unique concussion of rhythm, created from a looped sample of an old freezer slamming shut and a simple round of chords from an upright piano. The hypnotic density of the vocals and organic futurism of the instrumentation instantly rearranges any preconceptions about the 'Autolux sound.

This time we chatted with Geremy Jasper (former frontman for the band the Fever) and Georgie Greville, the members of the up-and-coming visual artist collective Legs who came up with the heavy metal aerobics fright fest video for Goldfrapp's "Alive". The clip finds Alison Goldfrapp leading a group of ghouls and girls through some heart-pumping moves. It's all cheeseball fun...and then a few necks get bitten. The first question it's gotten to the point where I find myself tuning out while my voice churns on in the backround. I've also begun to notice an inclination to make things up. So I will try to be as honest and present as possible. Basically the time span was bookended by label related issues. At the outset we realized we no longer had any sympathetic allies at Columbia/ Epic and it seemed pointless and very uninspiring to even try to make another record for them. So the first order of business was to get unentangled from Epic.

It would have been pointless to let someone with lukewarm enthusiasm release it after all this time. Luckily between TBD and ATP we found exactly what we were hoping for. In between the label related stuff was the actual creation of the record, and all I can say is that it takes as long as it takes and hopefully next time will be a lot quicker.
