BlackBerry Torch 9800 comes to India at a price of Rs.35000

RIM’s first touchscreen phone with a QWERTY keyboard, Blackberry Torch 9800 – has finally arrived to the Indian Market. In a grand event in Mumbai today, RIM has unveiled the mobile phone to the Indian customers at a price of Rs. 35,000.The handset was unveiled internationally earlier this August and received fairly good amount of response among the users.

The Blackberry Torch 9800 has a 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen (480×360 HVGA+ resolution) and 5MP Camera. The new handset features the latest Blackberry 6 operating system and a WebKit browser that renders HTML web pages (as well as HTML email) for an improved browsing experience as compared to traditional BlackBerry browsers. It features tabs for accessing multiple sites simultaneously and pinch to zoom for easy navigation. Universal search allows users to search through e-mail, messages, contacts, music, videos and more on the smartphone, as well as extend search to the Internet. BlackBerry 6 is a new operating system that retains the familiar and trusted features that distinguish the BlackBerry brand while delivering a fresh, approachable and engaging experience that's powerful and easy to use.

Blackberry Torch 9800 also features Wi-Fi & 3G connectivity, built-in GPS for location-based applications and geo-tagging. The smartphone comes with a combined 8 GB of media storage and includes a expandable microSD/SDHD memory card that can be extended upto a storage of 36 GB.

The phone also has features to simplify the management of social networking and RSS feeds (Social Feeds), and provides integrated access to BlackBerry Messenger, Facebook, Twitter and various instant messaging applications available on the BlackBerry Torch smartphone. It also includes a dedicated YouTube app and Podcasts app.

Reliance Mobile is all set to launch a host of services that provides exciting audio and video content on both 3G and 2G platforms during the ICC CWC 2011. The company has bagged the license to offer 3G services in 13 key circles including Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata. Reliance Mobile also offers pan-India CDMA and GSM Services across 24000 towns and 6 lakh Indian villages serving over 115 million customers.

Reliance Mobile will go LIVE with all ICC CWC 2011 matches through its already live specially created ICC zone on R-World VAS platform. Reliance Mobile customers will be able to keep a track of the 49 ICC CWC 2011 matches via WAP and SMS Alerts. They will be able to watch live stream of match highlights videos, watch previews and match round-ups, and download wallpapers and ringtones, anytime anywhere, with their handsets on both GSM and CDMA networks.

Tata Docomo to begin with 3G services on 8th November

Tata Docomo, one of foremost telecom operators in the Indian market has said that the company will be starting the 3G service in the Indian market on the 8th November 2010.

It will be launching the 3G services in areas like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (West), Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh by Diwali.

Previously, the overseas JV partner has provided the technical inputs to make the 3G network in the country world-class and it will bring more services and products under its 3G umbrella that if offers in Japan as of now, said Deepak Gulati, Tata DoCoMo executive president, mobility business division.

The 3G services will assist In providing services like ultra-fast internet, videoconferencing, unlimited downloads, live TV channels, video call etc to the consumer and will finally help in making the user experience more blissful.

Samsung Now Producing 20nm-class, 64-gigabit 3-bit NAND Flash Memory

Using the 20nm process technology, Samsung has publicized the industry’s first production of a 3-bit-cell, 64Gb (gigabit) NAND flash.

Adding, this improvement provides chips that can be used in high-density flash solutions, such as USB flash drives and SD memory cards.

The availability of storage as high as 8GB (gigabytes) in a single chip will probably activate widespread acceptance of Toggle DDR-based high-performance flash in flash drives and SD cards, not to bring up smart phones and SSDs, putting back earlier 4GB devices in the market.

Compared to the 30nm class, 32Gb 3-bit NAND Samsung’s 20nm class, 64Gb 3-bit NAND has a 60 percent higher productivity level. And the improved performance comes by having Toggle DDR 1.0 specifications, compared to SDR based 30nm class NAND chips.

Videocon launches Android based Zeus phone @ Rs. 12,900

Videocon Mobile Phones has announced its venture into the growing Android phone market with the release of ‘Zeus’ in the Indian market, priced at Rs 12,900. And the handset is outfitted with Android operating system, a 3.2-inch multi-touch screen, five megapixel camera and Wi-Fi.

Rahul Goel, COO, Videocon Mobile Phones said that Indian mobile phone market is very dynamic and price sensitive. The company tries to get interesting new elements in the industry with the new release and is very positive that it will create the desired newness in the industry.

For mobiles and wireless devices, Android is an open-source operating system, initially developed by Google that facilitates developers to design applications independent of the handset type. It let the users to download over 70,000 applications like games, music, music players and location-based services.

Moreover the handset makers like HTC, Samsung, Motorola and Spice have launched Android-powered phones in India, with more companies expecting to join the bandwagon shortly. Also, many players like Dell have introduced tablet PCs based on the platform.

Android operating system has 17.2 per cent share of the global smartphone market for the quarter ended June 2010, third after Symbian and Research in Motion and it is as per the research firm Gartner.

Vodafone selects Nokia Siemens, Ericsson for 3G roll out

Vodafone Essar, the leading Telecom service provider said that it has selected equipment producer Nokia Siemens Networks and Ericsson for deploying and managing its 3G network infrastructure across the country.

Vodafone said that they will enable 3G deployment, create synergy between GSM and 3G networks, and maintain HSPA (High Speed Packet Access) networks in the circles where Vodafone had bagged 3G spectrum.

Including Delhi and Mumbai, Vodafone has spectrum to offer 3G services in nine circles across the country.

Ericsson has been chosen to give exclusive 3G services in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata, NSN will implement and manage its 3G network in the rest 6 circles of Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Maharashtra, UP(East), Rest of Bengal and Haryana.

Further, Vodafone will utilize this latest HSPA technology to deliver services like video telephony, mobile broadband, mobile TV and others.

Vodafone Essar Managing Director Marten Pieters said that India is currently ready for 3G, and it is committed to provide high-quality 3G services to our Indian customers. In this area, Ericsson and Nokia Siemens are specialists and it views this as a very strategic association, in order to deliver and maintain a high quality network that customers will anticipate from Vodafone.

For deploying networks, Telcom service providers who had bagged 3G spectrum in the auctions held this year has started selecting vendors.

Bharti Airtel, the country’s largest telecom service provider has awarded the contracts for its 3G network infrastructure to Ericsson India, Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) and Huawei Technologies.

RCom says will be among the early launchers of 3G services

Anil Ambani owned Reliance Communications (RCom) said that it would be amongst the first private operators to release its next generation 3G service offerings shortly.

The company’s Chief Executive, Akshay Kumar said that the company is not going to wait for the other operators’ launch and then position will be among the early launches and it will be very soon. Previously, RCOM’s rival Tata Teleservices has announced that its release would be before November 8.

Further, 3G is anticipated to revolutionize the country’s telecom scene by providing real-time data downloads and assist revitalize the sagging fortunes of telecom companies.

Kumar added that RCom’s price-points will positively be in keeping with competition.

RCom has secured 3G license for 13 of the 22 circles and it is in discussion with other operators for partnerships for giving services in the uncovered regions, adding the average revenue per user will increase post-the 3G release.

In May 2010, the Government had increased Rs 65,000-crore by auctioning 3G spectrum to private operators. Already, state-run operators BSNL and MTNL have been offering 3G services to customers whereas none of the private operators have launched its services as of now.

In the previous month, RCoM had demonstrated its 3G service at the company’s yearly general meeting however its commercial launch is not yet happened.
