Olympic Stars – Berlin 1936 – Jesse Owens

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 01:39 PM PDT

Jesse Owens was the star of the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

He took gold medals in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay and long jump.

The performance was an in-your-face proof that Hitler's idea of Aryan superiority was nonsense.

Since Hitler couldn't claim superiority by genes, he decided to try military might and failed at that, too.

Jesse Owens became a star in the U.S. that crossed racial boundaries.

So, why does anybody go back across those lines?

Homeland Security Secretary – Michael Chertoff

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 09:37 AM PDT

Why is Homeland Security Secretary, Michael Chertoff, going to Hong Kong?

To get a tattoo? That’s what most sailors did whenever we dropped in during my NAVY days.

Nope, Chertoff is going to check out Hong Kong’s port-protection technology and implementation.

Container trucks pass under two giant portals that first employ gamma-ray imaging checks for anything that might contain a weapon, nuclear or otherwise.  At the same time, an optical scanner retrieves the ID numbers on the container.

Sounds pretty spiffy, eh?

The technology - developed by the US based San Diego ‘s Science Applications International Corp..

The cost – $10 million.

To implement it world-wide – a cool $1.5 billion by some estimates. But, couldn’t we just start with our own ports? Nope. They need to be scanned before they get here.

Still, the technology exists to improve safety at our ports – but not without a price tag.

Hey, maybe those people making all that money off of oil gouging can foot the bill.

What do you think?

Psalm 20 – The Lord Saves

Psalm 20 – The Lord saves.

I praise the Lord:

1. because He saves

2. He answers from heaven

3. He works mighty deeds

4. I will boast in His name – the Lord my God

5. because He raises me up and lets me stand

How do you praise God when you read Psalm 20?

Ayudha Pooja or Vijayadashmi to be celebrated on October 16

Posted: 14 Oct 2010 03:14 AM PDT

Ayudha Pooja will be celebrated on October 16 this year. This pooja has a great significance during Vijayadashmi, the last day of the festival of Navratri or Durga puja. Infact, Ayudha Pooja is also known as Vijayadashmi.

The worshipping of weapons is done during Ayudha Pooja. According to the Indian mythology, the ninth form of Goddess Durga, Chamundeshwari killed the buffalo headed demon known as Mahishasura his associates, after which there was no use of weapons for her. So she kept them aside and started worshipping them. From then on, the ritual is still being followed.

This was also the day when Arjun had taken back his weapons that he hid under the Vani tree.

Ayudha Pooja is very similar to Vishwakarma Pooja. On this day too, the weapons are worshipped. Employees working as mechanics, technicians, electricians and other labours who arwork for the industries perform Ayudha Pooja.

Labor Unions vs The World

There's a serious fight brewing.

China's top trade union is warning that the country will not cower to pressure from foreign businesses to water down new laws offering greater protection to hundreds of millions of Chinese workers.

Businesses are saying there is cheap labor elsewhere.chinese.labor.unions.gif

"We'll never submit to any pressure in protecting Chinese workers' rights and interests," said a senior official of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions.

"Then-president of the European Union chamber – warned the "strict" regulations could force foreign companies to 'reconsider new investments or continuing their activities in China' because of possible increase in production costs."

Does this fight seem familiar to anyone?

Business owners versus labor unions…it's the same everywhere.

Which side are you on?
