Urbanised Sonakshi Sinha in Hindi Movies 'Joker', 'Kick'

Posted: 06 Dec 2010 09:46 PM PST

Urbanised Sonakshi Sinha in Hindi Movies Jokar, kickMumbai, Dec 6 (IANS) After making an impact as a village belle in "Dabangg", newcomer Sonakshi Sinha is set to change her on screen image with her next two films - "Kick", where she will romance Salman Khan again, and "Joker" with Akshay Kumar.

"Oh yes, there's more to me than the demure 'gaon ki sehmi-sehmi' Rajjo in 'Dabangg'. Audiences will see me totally urbanised in 'Joker' and 'Kick'," said the 23-year-old.

"Kick" is the Hindi remake of the Tamil blockbuster of the same name that Shirish Kunder will direct for Sajid Nadiadwala, while "Joker" is a 3D movie to be made by Akshay's banner Hari Om Productions -- for this too Kunder will wield the megaphone.

Quizzed about two films with the same director, Sonakshi said: "It's just a coincidence that 'Kick' and 'Joker' have the same director. I signed them because I loved my role and the script.

"'Joker' is going to be shot in 3D. I've always been fascinated by the technique. I remember as kids we used to watch 3D films like 'Shiva Ka Insaaf' with those special glasses. Great fun to watch. Hopefully, it will be enjoyable to shoot. I can't wait to start shooting in January."

Sonakshi has a far larger role in "Joker" than in debut "Dabangg".

"Oh yes, I am in almost every frame with Akshay. 'Dabangg' had me in a relatively small part. I got noticed because of the way I was presented," she said.

Apart from these two films, the actress has not finalised anything but producers are pursuing her relentlessly with offers that they feel she cannot refuse.

Sonakshi has also changed her phone number to avoid too many nuisance calls.

"I was getting too many calls with requests that made no sense to me," she said.

Dabangg songs 'Munni..' now favourite taunt of Pakistani politicians!

Munni badnam hui now favourite taunt of Pakistani politicians!Islamabad, Dec 6 (IANS) Now "Munni badnam hui" has found a place in the political circles of Pakistan with politicians from leading parties using the hit Bollywood item song to take a swipe at one another.

Speaking at a party function a couple of days ago, ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Imtiaz Safdar Warraich said: "We are being blamed for the wrong doings of others." In an obvious dig at the opposition, Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N), he said: "Our situation is such that we can only say, 'Munni badnam hui darling tere liye'."

Punjab Law Minister and PML-N stalwart Rana Sanaullah was quick to latch on to the opportunity. "What a pity that the PPP leader has termed the entire party as Munni," he said, adding that "this Munni is not getting a bad name because of darling but because of her own actions".

This is the latest reflection of the popularity of the Bollywood song picturised on Malaika Arora in the movie "Dabangg".

There's a play called "Munni Badnam Hui" that's being used to spice up TV scripts and wedding revellers are dancing feverishly to its tune.

The song has become a rage in Pakistan. In fact, Malaika has almost become a household name in Pakistan after the song composed by Lalit Pandit.

No wedding or function is considered complete without the song. It also blares from audio systems in cars and music shops while FM radio stations are swarmed with requests to play "Munni badnam hui".
However, the song has created problems for the real life Munnis in the country. Munni, a mother of two from Lahore, has been harassed so much that she has shut her small shop.

"Every now and then someone will come to my store and say 'Munni badnam hui darling tere liye' in front of my customers. First, I didn't pay much attention and tried to ignore it, but then it became a routine event and I started to get irritated," Munni said.

This Munni is not the only one to face problems. Shahida Munni, principal of a school in Lahore, had been given the nickname Munni by her family and friends.

"While walking in my neighbourhood, I am always scared that someone will start to sing the song. Most of the time my fears become reality as many boys either sing the song loudly or play it on the stereo!" Shahida said.

Akshay Kumar's son won Karate tournament

Akshay Kumar's son won Karate tournamentNew Delhi, Dec 6 (IANS) Bollywood action hero Akshay Kumar's son Aarav seems to be walking in his father's footsteps already! The eight-year-old bagged three medals at a Karate tournament Monday.

"I'm the proudest dad in India today! My son just won three medals in his annual Karate tournament," Akshay, a black-belt in martial arts, posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.

Aarav won a gold medal for his kicks, and a silver medal each for his squats and combat fighting. Though Akshay's genes could well be the reason behind Aarav's accomplishment, the actor credits his wife Twinkle Khanna for their son's success.

"I must say that Aarav's gold medal is all thanks to my wife. She gave him extra training everyday at home for the last one month and he thanked her with an outstanding gold medal in return. He may have my genes but he definitely has his mother's fighting spirit," wrote Akshay.

Akshay and Twinkle tied the knot in 2001, and Akshay is still quite vocal about his love for her.

"Tina (Twinkle's real name) I love you and I'm so proud of our son," he tweeted.

One wonders if later Aarav will take the Bollywood route to fulfil his love for action, just as his father did with films like "Khiladi" and "Mohra".

Katy Perry excited about royal wedding London, Dec 7 (IANS) Singer Katy Perry is looking forward to Prince William's wedding next year because she thinks the ceremony will be an unforgettable event.

"I think the whole world is going to be watching that one. The whole world is going to be tuning in," contactmusic.com quoted her as saying.

"I think it's just one of those moments that you don't want to miss. I find the whole royalty system very interesting because we don't have it in the States. One of my favourite subjects has always been history, and Russell has been very helpful filling me in with the history of the English."

"Going by history, the interest in Kate and William's relationship is probably a hundred times what we get. I don't know them first-hand, but from an outsider's perspective it looks like it's going to be really fun for them but a lot of hard work at the same time," she said.

Danny Boyle says 'Trainspotting' sequel will happen

Danny Boyle says 'Trainspotting' sequel will happenLos Angeles, Dec 7 (IANS) Oscar-winning filmmaker Danny Boyle says there is a possibility of working on a sequel to his 1996 film "Trainspotting".

The film was based on a novel by Irvine Welsh, and a book sequel to it already exists in the form of "Porno". So, Boyle doesn't rule out a film sequel either, and that too with the original cast, reports imdb.com.

"It will happen, I think. I mean, we'll approach them all again about it, but it will depend on what place they're all at We have a very strong idea that it would be a wonderful thing to reapproach, to do again, when they have aged clearly into a mid-life kind of crisis, basically. They're not quite there yet, I don't think," said Boyle.

The book "Porno" is set some years after "Trainspotting", and features all the main characters from the earlier story. Boyle is perhaps waiting for the actors to reach the right age to make a realistic sequel.

Boyle feels "Porno" has a good potential to be adapted on screen.

"'Porno' is not a great book in the way that 'Trainspotting', the original novel, is genuinely a masterpiece, I think, as a piece of writing. But we have been doing some work on it, and it's got potential, yeah, for sure. And when the moment's right, I think we will approach it," he said.
