Texas Independence Day being Celebrated with much Fanfare Posted: 02 Mar 2010 09:14 AM PST Today marks the 174th Texas Independence Day celebration. Stephen Foster, an instructional specialist in social studies emphasized that Texas independence forms an important part of Texas essential knowledge and skills. While the fourth graders dealt with craft oriented projects for Texas declaration of independence while the seventh graders dealt with historical facts and figures of Texas declaration of independence in the TEKS curriculum. Still, the Texas Independence Day knowledge test that was given to the students was not up to the mark as Foster put it. The eighth grade curriculum emphasized more on Texas history. The test curriculum being more focused upon the American history as a whole and Texas as a part of it. He believed that Texas Independence Day 2010 should bring a change regarding the same. Some interesting Texas facts include the fact that the Texas declaration of independence was signed on 2nd March, 1836 in Washington and the Texas declaration was signed by representatives including Sam Houston. The declaration included the statement referring to the nature of the government, final statement of independence and the list of grievances. |

Till What Time Jake and Vienna Can Stay Together? Posted: 02 Mar 2010 02:42 AM PST Though Jake and Vienna might be still be together and engaged but if the history of the engaged couples from the show The Bachelor are anything to go by, how much jake and Vienna will last together as a couple will be interesting to see. Though Jake and ViennaJake and Vienna getting married would the most ideal situation but marriage is something the couples from the bachelor seem to be the least interested in. Going by the averages a break up is definitely on the cards. Still, seeing Jake and Vienna together for so long could prove the detractors wrong. Seeing how much Vienna Girardi was hated in the house and still managed to win Jake's heart was something which brings hope of this couple lasting. Even Jake took a lot of bold decisions to keep Jake and Vienna together. So a hearing that Jake and Vienna have broken up wouldn't sound too rosy. But the couple will have to face the test of time as rumors and thumps usually cause a lot of damage to a relationship and if jake and Vienna have to still remain together till the end, they'll have to take a lot of it. The couple though is planning to move to Dallas meanwhile. Everyone hopes that Jake and Vienna still remain together for eternity, but if not, they'll just be part of the trend. |

India vs Australia Hockey Live: India hopes to maintain win over Australia Posted: 02 Mar 2010 12:56 AM PST After a dazzling win over arch-rivals Pakistan as a campaign opener, India needs to maintain momentum to face Australia in pool B match of Hockey World Cup on Tuesday. Major Dhya Chand Stadium proves to be lucky for Indians, as India gave one of her finest performance in long time in front of huge crowd and beat Pakistan by 4-1, and wish to do similar with Australia to make their place in Semi finals. Everything clicked for India against Pakistan that day with the midfield, defense and front spot on as the home crowd pumped the players. The dangerous strike dou of Rehan Butt and Shakeel Abbasi was checked by the defense of Sandeep Singh, Diwakar Ram and Dhananjay Mahdi, through out the match. Pbhjot Singh, Shivendra Singh and Rajpal Singh created havoc as they led the upfront with their fast-paced interchanges. The difference created by outstanding Sardar Singh at the midfield. Whereas, Australia has an altogether different side, as they have one-touched fast-paced hit, and their own run style, India now needs to be more vigilant as Australia boasts a winning percentage of 71% as they have won 51 of their 70 matches. Also they finished runners up in their last two matches. Coach Jose Brasa has rightly asked the boys to keep their feet grounded and not being taken away by win against Pakistan. The last match between India and Australia was in Champions Trophy at Chennai where Australia won by 4-1 so it's a must win match for India now. Australia have come in the tournament because of Champions Trophy triumph which they won last year, though the tag of contenders has been taken off after the loss by England. Australia is 2nd ranked in the world but Olympic and World Cup records do not match with their excellent prowess. Australia needs to improve penalty corner conversion rate as they committed mistakes in defenses and penalty corners against England. Australians are favorites as Indian have won just 1 out of 6 matches. Since they played World Cup in 1975. Other Pool B matches on Tuesday, South Africa take on England while Pakistan against Spain. Teams (from): Australia: Jamie Dwyer (C), Liam De Young, Simon Orchard, Glenn Turner, Robert Hammond, Matthew Butturini, Mark Knowles, Edward Ockenden, Luke Doerner, Grant Schubert, Matthew Swann, Nathan Burgers, George Bazeley, Kieran Govers, Kiel Brown, Graeme Beg bie, Fergus Kavanagh, Desmond Abbott. India: Rajpal Singh (C), Adrian D’Souza, Sandeep Singh, Arjun Halappa, Prabhjot Singh, Sardar Singh, Gurwinder Singh Chandi, Deepak Thakur, Sarvanjit Singh, Gurbaj Singh, Tushar Khandker, Sreejesh Raveendran, Shivendra Singh, Bharat Chikara, Dhananjay Mahadik, Vikram Pillay, Danish Mujtaba, Diwakar Ram.
