People indulge in a dumpling eating passion this time and will undoubtedly prove to be amazing for the debutant. Dumpling Festival also known as as Duanwu Festival and Dragon Boats Festival is celebrated to give a tribute to Qu Yuan who was a great Chinese patriot?

In the third century when Chinese Government was doing many corrupted things Qu Yuan purposely jumped into the Milo River to sacrifice his life to protest against the corruption of the Government.

His fellow mates rushed in boats to save him and to keep away the fishes so that they won't harm Qu Yuan they threw drums and rice into the river but in vain as he had already lost his life.

To give him tribute boat races are organized every year and rice and drums are thrown in the same manner into the river to honor him for his sacrifice. Dumpling festival is one of the most momentous festivals celebrated in China and is marked by spending of thousands of dumplings and infuriated races of colorful dragon boats.

Visitors buy dumplings which are very much in vogue this season. Restaurants offer variety of dumplings filled with rice and meat and red beans which are better known as Zongi. They are triangular in shape and are wrapped in bamboo leaves.

When thrown in river these rice packets were tied with silk threads to prevent the river imps from eating them.
