Nature’s Call After Mid-Night leads to Salvation of 100

Posted: 17 Sep 2010 10:07 AM PDT

Some dude answering nature's call around midnight felt the 'earth move under his feet.'

Realizing that he wasn't about to fall into the open-air toilet but something worse was up or down as the case may be, the man ran back to the 'long house,' a building where an entire community sleeps together to warn his 'family' that the earth was trembling.

The 100 some people escaped just in time to see their home collapse into a sinkhole.

After seeing their home disappear and realizing how close all of them had been to death, everyone went looking for a place to relieve themselves in a hurry.

What do you have on your mind at midnight when nature calls? Earthquakes? Death? Sinkholes?

7 Reasons Why Chollywood Blockbusters are a Bust

Posted: 17 Sep 2010 06:04 AM PDT

Experts in China are warning that Chollywood's "super blockbusters" such as Curse of the Golden Flower, starring Gong Li and The Banquet, starring Zhang Ziyi are the beginning of the end, even, before the beginning.

There are reasons…that perhaps Hollywood could learn from…why the big money flicks don't generate big money.

1. Highly publicized movies tempt people to come watch who normally would not go. Afterwards, they tell their friends to NOT go. In the end, the investment in advertising isn't worth the few extra tickets.

2. Movies are NOT as good as they are preached. Trailers are often, make that usually, much better than the actual movie.

3. Poor performance at homes usually translates to poor performance overseas.

4. Movies do not reflect culture and tradition because they put too much emphasis on visual pleasure…sounds like Hollywood to me.

5. Fine art is NOT built on money; extravagant and lavish scenes do not make a good movie.

6. A fixation on big budget movies erodes creativity.

7. Big profits pinned on huge investments often removes imagination from films.

A good story makes a good movie. The rest is fluff.

What kind of movies do you like?

Puttaraj Gawai Of Gwalior Gharana Passes Away At The Age Of 96

Posted: 17 Sep 2010 04:52 AM PDT

Puttaraj Gavai a connoisseur of Hindustani music passed away at the age of 96 on Friday, September 17, 2010. He suffered a brief illness before he died at his ashram in Gadag, Karnataka.

Gavai was a recipient of Padma Bhushan which is India's third most important national award. He was also a promoter of Gwalior Gharana. The saddening part of the singer was that he was born without eyesight, he was blind right from his birth, and still Gavai was able to carve a niche for himself in the world of music.

Apart from singing, Gavai was a playwright, a poet and wrote many books on music. Not many know that he had also learnt Carnatic music.
The ashram that he dwelled in was his own creation where he educated 1,000 children; most of them are visually impaired and belong to poor families that cannot afford education to their children.

A Shoe Bao Xishun Can Sleep in – World’s Biggest Shoe

Posted: 17 Sep 2010 02:04 AM PDT

The world's tallest man was having a hard time finding someone who could make him a bed.

Had he waited…he and his wife could be the couple who lived in a shoe.

8 technicians worked 1,168 hours with $3,500 worth of imported leather to fashion a shoe 10' 10" long and 3' 11' wide.

Yup, he and his wife would fit in that. Bao is 7' 9" and his wife is 5' 7".

The shoe weighs 435 lbs and is on display at a shopping center in China's Henan province.

The worst part is that there are an awful lot of

cows running around naked just for this one shoe.giant.shoe.1.jpg

Is this type of display 'fun' or 'wasteful'?

Good advertising or would you, like me, stay away just because it's so stupid?

What do you think?
