Posted: 14 Mar 2010 05:15 AM PDT Submitted by-Mannu, yatinder.k@rediffmail.com In a forest there lived a mouse named Chimpu along with his wife Chinki. Chimpu was a good-for-nothing fellow. He didn't do any work. The miserable chinki used to meet household expenses by stitching clothes. One day they had a quarrel. Chinki threatened, "If you won't do any work, I will leave you." At last the mouse started liking for a job. While walking, Chimpu found a piece of turmeric. He was very happy to get it. "Arey, I have become a grocer." He brought that piece of turmeric home and said to Chinki, "Now didn't fight with me. I have opened a grocery shop." "A grocer shop? But from where did you get the money? Where are the things? Where is the shop?" "The little space outside our hole would be taken as a shop." Chinki came out to have a look at the shop and she remarked, "Here is only a piece of turmeric. Where are the other things?" "Arey, don't you know that by this piece of turmeric a mouse can become a big grocer. I am going to give this good news to my friends," saying this Chimpu ran away while his wife Chinki Grumblingly busied herself in her chores After some hours, Chimpu returned to his home. He asked Chinki for some money. The later asked, "For what?" Chimpu replied, "Some of my friends are asking for a party on the occasion of opening a new shop. I will even distribute laddus at the muhurat ceremony." "Your friends are making you a fool." "Why don't you say that you are jealous of me becoming a grocer. My friends are so happy. They were saying even this that for the last time I would have to take money from you, after that you would sit at home and I will earn." "Do you know that our ancestors too had become grocers by having a small piece of turmeric! The whole world knows this," saying this Chimpu came out. After 2 days, Chimpu did throw party and distributed laddus at the muhurat. His friends kept on smiling and were also praising Chimpu's shop. Chimpu was very happy to hear this. After the party, Chinki asked, "For this from where did you get the money?" Chimpu said, "I have borrowed some money in your name from the houses from which you get the clothes for stitching." "What have you done! For a useless party, you wasted so many rupees. Who would pay the debt?" "Through my grocery shop, I will also pay the debt. You just stitch those people's clothes for the last time from whom I have borrowed the money. If I had not thrown a party then how could people know that I have opened a shop. Now when all have become aware of my shop, it would have a big sale." It is useless to talk to you," said, Chinki. After 2 days, the elephant was giving a party on the occasion of his son's birthday. When they got to know that a new grocery shop has been opened in the forest, they sent a list of required spices. Till the fixed day, the grocer could not send anything except a piece of turmeric. When the elephant came to know of this, he scolded Chimpu, "Don't you feel any shame? When you did not have anything to sell, then why did you indulge in a big show!" And the elephant wrapped Chimpu in his trunk and threw him away. Nursing his injuries, Chimpu reached home and sat sadly in a corner. "Well, did you not go to the shop today?" asked Chinki jokingly. "Which shop? In the absence of my piece of turmeric, how could there be a grocery shop?" "Where are you going? To look out for another piece of turmeric?" again Chinki said mockingly. "No, now I am going to look for a job. Whatever job I would have to do, I would do." |
