Deepika Padukone dosen't have date for Vishal Bharadwaj Posted: 19 Nov 2010 03:15 AM PST Deepika Padukone admits that she was supposed to do Vishal Bharadwaj's film -- but couldn't because of the dates problems. "As far as Vishal's film is concerned, yes I was meant to do it but sometimes things don't work out. The dates got pushed and didn't fall into my schedule. Sometimes these things happen," Deepika told IANS. Apparently Bharadwaj is miffed with Deepika for not doing his project and the young actress feels that while accepting an offer an actor has to consider other logistics apart from the script. "When actors decide to do a film, it's not only the scrip, other logistics also need to fall in place," said the actress who is not willing to say much on the subject. "I don't want to discuss it too much because it's not right for me to talk about a film that I am not part of. I have a lot of respect for Vishal and I would love to work with him, unfortunately this one didn't work out," said Deepika. Her forthcoming release is "Break Ke Baad" and her future projects include "Desi Boys", which is directorial debut of David Dhawan's son Rohit and Prakash Jha's "Arakshan".

'Rakhi Ka Insaaf' to be telecast at 11 p.m. Posted: 19 Nov 2010 03:10 AM PST Imagine TV Thursday announced shifting the telecast time of "Rakhi Ka Insaaf", hosted by item girl Rakhi Sawant, to the 11 p.m. slot, after being advised by the information and broadcasting ministry. "We have received an advisory from the I&B ministry that requires us to shift the telecast timing of the programme, 'Rakhi Ka Insaaf'. We are complying with the ministry's advice on this matter, and changing the telecast time of the programme to 11 p.m.," said an official statement from Imagine TV. "Rakhi Ka Insaaf" shows Rakhi solving problems of the common man, but her words are sometimes quite harsh. In fact, the show has been in the news lately since a young man who featured on the show died. Ministry officials said the show, along with Colors' "Bigg Boss 4", has "violated the programming code and ethics" with content that is not fit for family viewing. While Colors chose to approach a court and got a stay against the ministry order to shift the telecast time to 11 p.m., Imagine TV has agreed to follow the directive. As per other instructions from the ministry, Imagine TV has also stopped all daytime repeats of the programme and has advised all news channels to refrain from carrying excerpts or clips of the show from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Pamela Anderson wants Indians to avoid leather products Posted: 19 Nov 2010 02:51 AM PST Former "Baywatch" beauty Pamela Anderson, associated with PETA and currently in the "Bigg Boss" house, has urged the Indian people to avoid using leather products. "I am calling on every kind person in India and throughout the world to join me in rejecting all leather products in order to help put an end to the suffering. I am asking every individual - man, woman and child - never to buy leather shoes, bags, jackets, belts or anything else made of animal skin," Pamela said in a press statement. "Animals have no voice, so I feel compelled to speak up for them. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Every mom says it, but it's just so true," she added. The 43-year-old Canadian model had written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh about the leather trade in India. She wrote: "The reverence and love for animals felt by people in your beautiful country is deeply moving, yet one thing fills me and all compassionate people with horror: India's leather trade. It still profits from the skins of animals who have been transported to and killed in slaughterhouses, including illegal ones, in unspeakably cruel ways. "In 10 years, it seems nothing has changed. I love India and the reverence for animals held by most Indians. Will the government act at all to help these cattle?" In 2001, Anderson was part of a video that shows cruelty to animals in the international leather trade, which documented numerous violations of India's animal protection laws. Later in 2003, she even sent out a letter to top Indian fashion designers urging them to use ethical and stylish alternatives in place of real skins in their fashions. The letter was accompanied by a video showing the fear and pain endured by animals who are killed for their skins. In 2008, Pam appeared in a People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India ad wearing only a leafy bikini alongside the tagline - Turn Over a New Leaf. Try Vegetarian. Last year Pamela stepped up efforts to help Mumbai's stray dogs after she learned that they may be caught and cruelly killed. From baring all to wearing a lettuce bikini to promote going vegetarian, Pamela never misses an opportunity to speak up for animal rights. She also initiated a campaign in the US against food chain KFC urging them to improve animal welfare standards and require suppliers to use less cruel killing methods. She stripped down, urging Israeli government to ban fur trade and unveiled her "Save the Seals" campaign to stop the cruel slaughter of seals in Canada.

John Abraham wants to be a director Posted: 19 Nov 2010 01:59 AM PST Having worked in more than 30 films in seven years, John Abraham says audiences have become more accepting of his understated, realistic style of acting. He also wants to wield the megaphone soon and is sure of doing a good job as a director. "I have good friends around me who are directors and writers. They are all willing to sit with me, help me and formulate screenplays. I have ideas and I want to become a director very soon and when I become one, I will be damn good at it," John told IANS in an interview. "Probably, five-eight years down the line, I'll direct a film. I'm just seven years old in the industry. I want to first just settle down properly and singularly prove myself in a big way and then I will get into direction," added the actor who will turn 38 next month. John has worked in all genres - from Oscar nominated period drama "Water" to comedies "Garam Masala" and "Dostana" to issue-based "New York". Explaining his evolution as an actor, he said: "After all these years, I think I've become very comfortable with the medium, but more than myself I've seen a change in the perception of the audience towards me. "I've always been an understated actor. I'm not into over-projection. When I joined the industry, there was a section of the audience that felt I was too understated. Today the same audiences have a different perception and somehow that same style of acting is working for them now. "I really haven't changed. I'm following my director's brief and I'm doing exactly that. But people's perception has changed. The sense of reality has prevailed in the mind of the audience and I think that's the change I have seen." His nerdy look in "Jhootha Hi Sahi" failed to set the cash registers ringing, but the Bollywood hunk has not given up. He is all set to play boy-next-door in a new film. "I'll be starting the film in March, which will be directed by Kapil Sharma, a first time director. He is the best chief assistant director we have in the country," said John. "The film is about just a regular guy who gets busted by all the women in his life. It's about a guy who learns life through the women he is with - his mother, sister, his boss, his neighbour, his girlfriend, his ex-girlfriend. It's just about this journey. It's amazing." The final title of the film is yet to be decided. "Right now it's called 'The Re-education of Ishaan Sabharwal'. That's a working title," he said. Currently, he is busy with director Nishikant Kamat and producer Vipul Shah's Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster "Kaakha Kaakha". The action movie also stars Genelia D'Souza. "I have already shot 20 percent of the film. We shot for 25 days, we have another 40-45 days left and we are done. So we finish in January end," said John. Is there any movie on the anvil with his actress girlfriend Bipasha Basu? Both debuted together with "Jism" in 2003 and were also seen as a couple in "Aetbaar" and "Madhoshi". The couple was last seen together in 2007 film "Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal". "I don't know, depends on whether we are offered a good script. Till then we are okay not doing work together. Anyway there is no public display of affection in our case. We are pretty much in our own worlds," said the actor.

Hollywood Movie: 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 1' Review Posted: 18 Nov 2010 11:42 PM PST Film: "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 1"; Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Ralph Fiennes; Director: David Yates; Rating: ** The generation that has lived in the times of the phenomenon called Harry Potter will recall these times fondly - of times when fans slept through the night outside shops to get their copy of the book. Sadly, as any hardcore fan will tell you, none of the movies have come close to match the trigger to imagination of the books. And the latest film, which is the first of two parts based on the last book of the series, is no different. That does not mean that the filmmakers will not attempt to match the money from the book that created the first billionaire author. Proof - "Deathly Hallows" is being released in two parts, with the first dragging quite a bit. Yet "Deathly Hallows" stays truest to the book than any other film has so far. After Dumbledore's death, Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) takes control of the ministry of magic. Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) Ron (Rupert Grint) and Hermonie (Emma Watson) obviously cannot be in school. Aided by a loyal group of supporters first, and later on their own, they try to find Voldemort's Horcruxes. Their search leads them to discover the story of the Deathly Hallows and its three sacred objects - the resurrection stone to bring anyone back to life, an unbeatable Elder Want and the infallible invisibility cloak. The fight between Voldemort and Harry now becomes a race to find these. The most successful book franchise guarantees the success of the films. However, while the previous versions dared not do more fearing boredom, "Deathly Hallows" boldly goes there and breaks the films into two parts. But despite many commendable scenes and good special effects, without its twin, which will be released only in 2011, it does not hold much power. That does not mean that audiences will not throng theatres to see the film, or will be disappointed by it. For "Deathly Hallows", despite its slow pace, is by far the scariest film in the series with fear looming large over the film. Yet, the 146-minute movie has many funny moments scattered across an otherwise gloomy landscape, like when many of Harry's friends drink a portion to become his duplicates, or when they literally flush themselves through a public toilet to enter the ministry of magic. The three main protagonists have grown up now. The introduction of sexual tension between them, as also jealousy, spices up the film. The animation to explain the story of the "Deathly Hallows" is also rivetingly done. The beginning of the end of one of the most successful franchises in cinema history, thus, may not be too engrossing in itself. It is definitely a strong build up to the grand finale, where the chosen one, Harry, will finally live up to his destiny. That the next part will be in 3D, is merely the icing on a delicious cake.
