National Weed Day 4 20 and Its Meaning Posted: 19 Apr 2010 06:28 PM PDT
420, 4:20 or 4/20 (pronounced four-twenty) refers to consumption of cannabis and, by extension, a way to identify oneself with cannabis drug subculture. The term originated from a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, United States in 1971. The teens would meet after school at 4:20 p.m. to smoke marijuana at the Louis Pasteur statue. The group called itself the Waldos because its members hung out by a wall after school. Writer Ryan Grim, citing interviews with anonymous Waldos, claims that the group met by the statue at 4:20 p.m. to begin a search for a crop of abandoned cannabis growing near Point Reyes that they had heard about. They never found the stash, Grim writes, but smoked plenty of marijuana while looking for it. Marijuana Facts Slang words for marijuana include Mary Jane, reefer, weed, grass and pot Hemp plants look similar to marijuana plants but hemp plants contain very little THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol), the active ingredient in marijuana Hemp can be made into fabric, rope and food Contains at least 60 chemicals called cannabinoids Marijuana smoke is often inhaled deeper and held longer than tobacco smoke which increases the lungs' exposure to carcinogens Marinol is a pharmaceutical product with similar properties and medical benefits as marijuana7 Some marijuana users show signs of dependence Has been illegal in the United States since the early 1900s TGI Friday's in New York City's Wall street district closed down for selling cocaine and marijuana Somehow, from a small group of wastoid teenagers, that holiday has evolved into a national celebration for all people who suck the sap out of our nation's productivity. On this day, those who favor legalization of marijuana gather together and smoke a lot of pot. In other words, this day does not differ a whole lot from any other day for these people. The biggest celebration is held on the University of Colorado's Boulder campus, which generally becomes engulfed in a mushroom cloud of cannabis smoke this time of year. Reportedly, as many as 10,000 people gather each year to smoke pot with others, instead of at home in their mom's basement with a towel under the door. According to the editor of High Times, Steven Hager, the term "420" originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smoking students who called themselves the Waldos. The term was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 a code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire generation through various vehicles like the music of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead. Other versions say 420 originated from a police dispatch code that identified pot smokers or that 420 was the number of chemical compounds that are found in pot. Whatever its true origin may be, 420 Day is now firmly implanted in the marijuana subculture. The true significance of this day, beyond the fact that it brings together people to celebrate the use of marijuana, is that it's a day to explore the meaning of the freedom - or the lack thereof - to indulge in its use. Despite being a popular drug that is enjoyed by millions of Americans, it is still classified as an illegal substance. Penalties range from the stigma of arrest to fines and even imprisonment. Dirty Thunderstorm volcano Eyjafjallajokull And Chilli Posted: 19 Apr 2010 06:01 PM PDT
A dirty thunderstorm (also, Volcanic lightning) is a weather phenomenon that occurs when lightning is produced in a volcanic plume. he most famous image of the phenomenon was photographed by Carlos Gutierrez and occurred in Chile above the Chaiten Volcano. It circulated widely on the internet. Other instances have been reported above Alaska's Mount Augustine volcano, and Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull volcano. And Now The Iceland volcano Eyjafjallajokull continued to erupt on April 19, sending out a plume of ash and lightning and offering a rare glimpse at the mysterious electrical phenomenon known as a "dirty thunderstorm." "It's the first real look at the details of at least one kind of volcano lightning—though of course every volcano might not be the same," said Martin Uman, co-director of the University of Florida Lightning Research program, who was not involved in the study. Static Charge? The team behind the new research used radio waves to detect the previously unknown type of lightning as it flashed from the crater of Alaska's Mount Augustine volcano (see a photo of Mount Augustine's 2006 eruption). "During the eruption there were lots of small lightning [bolts] or big sparks that probably came from the mouth of the crater and entered the [ash] column coming out of the volcano," said study co-author Ronald J. Thomas, an atmospheric physicist at the state engineering university New Mexico Tech. The photo of lightning bursting out during a volcanic eruption in Chile, above, was a truly awesome sight. Although the picture seemed to show a thunderstorm colliding with the cloud of volcanic ash, it actually showed a marvellous phenomenon known as volcanic lightning. Usually, lightning is sparked off by countless tiny pieces of ice inside a turbulent thundercloud banging into one another. Each collision generates static electricity, rather like a balloon rubbed on a jumper. Eventually, the entire cloud turns into a colossal battery and the electricity is discharged as a gigantic spark – lightning. A recent theory pictures the volcanic cloud as a "dirty thunderstorm". Causes A study in the journal Science indicated that electrical charges are generated when rock fragments, ash, and ice particles in a volcanic plume collide and produce static charges, just as ice particles collide in regular thunderstorms. As the plume started going downwind, it seemed to have a life of its own and produced some 300 more or less normal [lightning bolts] The implication is that it has produced more charge than it started with. Otherwise [the plume] couldn't continue to make lightning. —Martin Uman, co-director of the University of Florida Lightning Research program Volcanic eruptions also release large amounts of water, which may help fuel these thunderstorms. Sara Santos Awarded as the most Beautiful Women of Portugal Posted: 19 Apr 2010 05:36 PM PDT
What is there to say about Sara Santos? First things first. A fact. She was awarded Miss Playboy TV Portugal in 2006. So that's a good thing. Second thing. Sara is what I consider "dangerously" hot. And when I say that I mean it in the nicest way. However, what I consider to be dangerously hot is the type of girl that can turn even the smartest of men into a complete bumbling idiot. It's a curse. It's what amazingly hot women do to us men. They show a tad of cleavage and we're basically idiots. Simple. And For Those Who Dont Know About Sara Santos I know you don't really care who she is is but Sara Santos was Miss Playboy TV Portugal 2006, she's frikin' hot so she's obviously Brazilian. Other than that I don't have much information on her. I would like her to take me bowling in that little outfit…. I'd get a turkey for her. UPDATE - Apparently she's Portuguese not Brazilian but they speak Portuguese in Brazil and that's good enough for me. Thanks for the comments. But She Has been now awarded as the most Beautiful Women of Portugal by their Fans and now becoming so popular as a queen of Portugal So till her next maxim Photo shot we all have to wait and some other sources says she is now appearing in a new film ? Dont know wonder what the film is for, Hope Fully a nice movie. Tags: Sara Santos |
Ernie Sims Detroit Lions The Main Player Report Posted: 19 Apr 2010 05:22 PM PDT
Ernie Sims III (born December 23, 1984 in Tallahassee, Florida) is an American football linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft. He played college football at Florida State. The Eagles sent a fifth-round pick (137th overall) to Denver. The seventh-rounder the Lions received is the 220th overall pick. They now have four seventh-rounders. Scheffler, 27, played at Chelsea High and Western Michigan, and when reached by the Denver Post this morning, he answered . Browsing some scouting reports on Sims I've noticed a few consensus points. For one, he's a big hitter with good sideline to sideline speed. He's a force in the running game and and has done well in zone coverage, but needs to improve his man to man coverage. Doesn't force many turnovers. Many experts also feel he was miscast the in the Tampa 2 system run by Detroit. Sims was selected as ninth overall in the first round of the 2006 NFL Draft by the Detroit Lions. Sims was targeted by Lions general manager Matt Millen to bolster the Lions' defense at weakside linebacker. On July 30, 2006, he signed a 5-year, $15.735 million contract with $12.1 million guaranteed. Sims started all 16 games his rookie season at outside linebacker, collecting 124 tackles (81 solo tackles) and was credited with a half sack and one pass deflection. On December 3, against the New England Patriots, Sims had a career high 13 total tackles. On December 31, Sims made a key tackle on fourth down to give the Lions a big win against the Dallas Cowboys. On September 3, 2007, Sims was named one of five captains for the 2007 Detroit Lions. The Lions former head coach, Rod Marinelli, said that Sims' resembled that of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Derrick Brooks in his early years, being described as a fast, punishing, sure-tackler. The meet their needs on the low side linebacker , and other physicists at the perimeter on the relative cheapness. Sims, 26, is both as a starter, and should be an immediate upgrade to Akeem Jordan. Omar Gaither could soon be released injured. Although never having a big bet for 16 games, the Sims is a promising target in the leagues will be displaced LB3. In 59 career games, all with the Lions Sims was credited with 420 tackles, including 2.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and one interception. He was credited with 49 deals last season.Certainly looks like the kind of person who adds his forehead 7 if you do not see the Cowboys in Week 17 and 18 were excited. I think you can rest assured the Lions have a plan for the position, even if it means a competition between untested veterans and perhaps a draft choice or two. You can't have a proven veteran at every position. Fewer than five months have passed since Bulluck, 32, suffered the injury. Would he be an upgrade over Sims? It might be hard to know at this point. In general, I'm not in favor of signing 32-year-old linebackers coming off major knee surgery to replace 25-year-old former first-round picks. Scouts Inc. Jeremy Green included Bulluck among the best five remaining defensive free agents. Here's how Green evaluated Bulluck's situation: If he is healthy, Bulluck is definitely one of the top players still available in unrestricted free agency. He tore a knee ligament in late December and might not be ready to join a team. When healthy, he is an active linebacker with excellent instincts for the position. He is a sideline-to-sideline player who can make plays all over the field. Though not as active in coverage as he once was, Bulluck still can make plays on balls thrown in front of him. The main reason he is still available has to do with injury. Tags: tony scheffler, detroit lions, dallas cowboys, green bay packers, nfl mock draft |
Nascar Texas Motor Speedway sprint cup Live Report Posted: 19 Apr 2010 05:12 PM PDT
The NASCAR Texas Motor Speedway has been hosting races since its opening in 1996. The track is 1.5 miles long and is similar to other speedways in Atlanta and Charlotte. In fact the speedway in Texas is owned by Speedway Motorsports Inc. which also owns Atlanta, Charlotte, and Bristol. Each year the track hosts two Sprint Cup Series, two Nationwide Series and two Camping World Truck Series NASCAR races. Today's Sprint Cup Series NASCAR Texas Motor Speedway race saw Tony Stewart take the pole, however he ended up in 32nd spot. Denny Hamlin took the checkered flag, while cup series point's leader Jimmie Johnson came second. Rounding out the top five are Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch and Kasey Kahne. Next weekend the drivers and crews will travel to Talladega for the Aaron's 499. The rain couldn't delay racing again at Texas Motor Speedway today and in the NASCAR Samsung Mobile 500 Sprint Cup it was Denny Hamlin who took victory, only 3 weeks after surgery on his knee, beating a hurtling Jimmie Johnson. There had been a red-flag delay after a 10 car smash with 17 laps remaining that saw many of the leaders eliminated and with 12 laps to go Hamlin advanced to the lead on a restart. Denny Hamlin obtained his second victory of the season in Monday's Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. The win was Hamlin's and first-ever at Texas Motor Speedway. Denny Hamlin led 12 laps in the Texan race, which was rescheduled to Monday morning after the persistent rain on Saturday's practice session and the original race time on Sunday. Two days of persistent rain has left Texas Motor Speedway playing host today to a rare doubleheader featuring the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Samsung Mobile 500 at 11 a.m. CT followed by the Nationwide Series O'Reilly Auto Parts 300 at 4 p.m. CT. This marks only the second time in NASCAR history that a doubleheader has been held on a Monday. The first time it occurred was Feb. 25, 2008, at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif. Carl Edwards won the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race and Tony Stewart won the Nationwide Series event. The only time that Texas Motor Speedway was forced to run a NASCAR race on a Monday due to weather came in 2002. The Samsung/RadioShack 500 was scheduled to run on Sunday, April 7, but heavy rains forced a postponement until the next day. Matt Kenseth won that race by .888 of a second over Jeff Gordon. Other Sources Report: Hard to believe, but it has more than 13 years since the weekend at the opening of the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway was. Since then, the plant in one of the difficulties and successes of its relatively short history has been marked. NASCAR fans will long remember the beginning of the MST was in rough sport, especially during his first two seasons operation.Again this week at Texas Motor Speedway in this chapter, the race was postponed twice Saturday and Sunday, prompted the beginning of the two Busch Series and NASCAR Sprint Cup until Monday Tags: nascar, nascar on fox, nascar.com news, nascar live online, nascar sprint cup |
Mo'Nique's Brother Gerald Imes Humbly Sorry For His Actions Posted: 19 Apr 2010 05:05 PM PDT
Gerald Imes said on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" that the molestation continued for a year or two, starting when he was 13 and Mo'Nique was 7 or 8. "I abused and betrayed the trust of another sibling, my sister, my blood sister," Imes said. He apologized to the actress, saying "I'm sorry, Mo'Nique. I'm sorry." Imes said he decided to appear on Winfrey's show to apologize to Mo'Nique and bring their family back together. Imes said he himself was molested and he was using drugs and alcohol at age 11. "Hopefully somewhere, somehow as siblings we can come back together as brother and sister," he said. "I'm humbly sorry that those actions had taken place." Mo'Nique's parents also appeared on the show, although the Precious star herself did not participate. She did give her blessing for the sit-down to take place, saying she hoped her family's story would help other victims of abuse. As for why Gerald chose now to come forward, he hopes it will help rekindle his relationship with his sister: "I can only hope by coming forth today, since I couldn't reach out to her, that ... somehow... we can come back together." "I'm sorry that it happened. I am so sorry that it happened to you, and that I was the perpetrator, the one that did it to you. However, I understand your pain. I, too, was there. Now let's share this together and move on.'" Some other sources say - Saying that he himself was molested and was drinking alcohol and using drugs by the time he was 11, Imes admits that for over a year -- starting when he was 13 and Mo'Nique was 7 or 8 -- he molested her. However, he continues to deny that he lured Mo'Nique into compliance with candy, which she has also maintained. "I abused and betrayed the trust of another sibling, my sister, my blood sister," Imes says. "I'm sorry, Mo'Nique. I'm sorry." In a previous interview with Oprah, Mo'Nique said she drew inspiration for her Oscar-winning performance as Mary Jones, a mother who sexually abuses and beats her daughter in the movie "Precious" from her own childhood molestation. "I knew very well who that monster was. I knew Mary Jones," she said. "When he would say 'action,' that's the monster that I became." Mo'Nique embraced the role because she felt the movie could help end the cycle of abuse. "It's so important because it's so honest," she told Oprah. "[This abuse is] happening every day. And we keep wanting to sweep it under the carpet and act like it doesn't exist." Tags: mo nique, monique |

Aaron Eckhart I would kill or do that Posted: 19 Apr 2010 02:23 AM PDT
Aaron Edward Eckhart (born March 12, 1968) is an American film and stage actor. Born in California, he moved to England at 13 when his father relocated the family. Several years later, he began his acting career performing in school plays. Eckhart then moved to Sydney, Australia, for his high school senior year; he left without graduating but earned a diploma through an adult education course. In 1994, he graduated from Brigham Young University (BYU) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in film. For much of the mid-1990s, he lived in New York City as a struggling, unemployed actor. PEOPLE that he has a new real life obsession — fashion photography! Having recently shot his first campaign for pal Molly Sims' jewelry line, Eckhart tells PEOPLE at the line's N.Y.C. launch last week that his new calling might be behind the lens. "I'm obsessed with it–it's all I do," he says. "That's really the only thing I think about." With magazines like French Vogue, Italian Vogue and L'Uomo Vogue as his inspirations, and famed photographers like Peter Lindbergh and Bruce Weber as his heroes, the easygoing actor says that capturing raw human emotions is what he's most passionate about. "Straight-up fashion photography in the studio–that's not what I necessarily aspire to, you know? I like to be outside, on location, making up stories," he says. "That's where my acting comes in." So will the actor–who's starring in an upcoming movie with Nicole Kidman later this year–turn photo pro? "I will if somebody asks me," he says. "Hopefully I'll do exhibitions and all that sort of stuff. I'm really just a photography geek. I just love to shoot." Reports first circulated last week that they shared an intimate dinner at Sullivan's Steakhouse in Baton Rouge, followed by a report Tuesday that Sims gushed to friends, "Aaron's a great guy!" Sources have now confirmed to PEOPLE that the two are in fact a couple and have been quietly dating for a few weeks. A very beardy Aaron Eckhart attended the "Grayce by Molly Sims the Collection" launch at Henri Bendel on March 23, 2010 in New York City. He was there supporting his beautiful girlfriend/supermodel Molly Sims with her collection of vintage-inspired jewelry pieces ranging from $30 to $120 for HSN. I really love Sexhart with all this facial hair. He looks very sexy, Molly is a lucky girl! New York Magazine's Vulture blog got an update from The Dark Knight star about the movie he shot with Johnny Depp called The Rum Diary which seems to have no release date as of yet. "I don't know, I don't know where they're at. I think they're trying to get into Cannes, maybe," Eckhart told us. Have there been problems trying to release it? "It hasn't even been a year yet, so I don't think so. It's one of those movies where, you know — this is Johnny's pet project, it's his baby. So I think he's going to take his time and release it in the proper place. I think it'll do good, I really do. Johnny's absolutely wonderful in it." What familiarity did you already have with Harvey? I believe you didn't see "Batman Forever"? Eckhart: Well I did years ago. I think that obviously… I've seen all the Batmans. You know Chris comes at this with such a different take on Batman I didn't feel like I had to be true to any other actor playing this role. Of course I read the comic books and I think Harvey is portrayed very well in those comic books, his relationship with Gordon, with Batman, with Gotham City. Those really helped me the most. Chris and his brother have written this brilliantly. It gives all the characters a lot of range. As you know there are fantastic actors in this movie and everybody has great things to do. I feel like my character is fresh and he's new. I think he's important to Gotham City. Gotham City is going through a dark time and I think that my character helps to give hope to the city, is a positive, I would say, role model for the citizens of Gotham City. And I think that's important. There's a lot of mirrors to what's going on today in society I think which helps make these movies important and takes them beyond comic books. Of course comic books also mirror our times. What do you draw out of yourself as an actor to play a psychopath? Eckhart: It's that code. It's the code. It's the code of saying, "How can I justify this," how would I, in what circumstances, under which circumstances would I go kill somebody. You know, you hear people say, "If my child was this, that or the other I would kill or do that." I think you have to put yourself in those situations. Obviously I haven't killed anybody, but you have to make that as real as possible for yourself, if you can't make it real you make it in imaginary circumstances. That's where the fire comes from, that's why when we see great performances you have to justify your behavior as an actor. And that's what the fun of acting is, whether it's exacting your code or it's falling in love, or whatever it is. You have to make it real for yourself and however you do that. The other thing about acting is that you guys, if I were on screen and I was pouring acid on somebody like this, well all you see is me pouring what you think is acid on somebody's face or whatever it is, but what I'm thinking is I'm just pouring this water on it because that person really likes the water. It doesn't matter what I'm thinking, it just matters what you guys are seeing and your own interpretation of that event. So I don't even know what that has anything to do with but I don't believe that you have to really want to go kill somebody in order to do it in the movies. Tags: Aaron Eckhart, Molly Sims |
Dan Boyle suffered a major setback Posted: 19 Apr 2010 02:14 AM PDT
Daniel Boyle (born July 12, 1976) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman and an alternate captain of the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League (NHL). He has previously played for the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning, with whom he won a Stanley Cup in 2004. NUMBER: 22 HEIGHT: 5' 11" WEIGHT: 190 SHOOTS: RIGHT BORN: JUL 12, 1976 (AGE 33) BIRTHPLACE: OTTAWA, ON, CANADA ACQUIRED: ACQUIRED BY SAN JOSE ALONG WITH BRAD LUKOWICH FROM TAMPA BAY IN EXCHANGE FOR MATT CARLE, TY WISHART, A FIRST ROUND SELECTION IN THE 2009 NHL ENTRY DRAFT AND A FOURTH ROUND SELECTION IN THE 2010 NHL ENTRY DRAFT ON JULY 4, 2008. The win showed that the tournament hosts aren't going to go quietly, and it sent Russia meekly into the abyss. They've surely got some soul-searching to do as they move their program forward from this disappointing Olympic experience. While Canada prepares for a semifinal against Slovakia Friday night, they will wait to see what happens to one of their top defensemen. Dan Boyle of the San Jose Sharks certainly must be facing the possibility of a suspension for a dirty hit late in the quarterfinal win Wednesday. Despite the pleas of NBC gadfly Mike Milbury, Boyle's hit was dirty, illegal, and not the fault of Russian Alexander Semin. Yes, Semin took Boyle hard into the boards a few seconds earlier. But it was hardly a dirty, illegal hit. It was a bit late, but not a vicious rules violation. He suffered a major setback, however, in September 2007, injuring himself in a freak accident after a pre-season game when a skate slipped off a hook in his locker and hit him in the left wrist, severing three tendons. Boyle underwent initial wrist surgery on September 23 he attempted to return on October 29, but after playing his first four games of the 2007–08 season, Boyle underwent additional surgery on the injured wrist, missing another 36 games. He did not make a full comeback until January 24, 2008, scoring two goals in his return, and soon thereafter was re-signed to a six-year, $40 million contract extension on February 25. He completed his injury-shortened campaign with 25 points in 37 games. Tags: san jose sharks, sharks, nashville predators, chicago blackhawks, colorado avalanche |
Laura Bell Bundy Everything we did, our Kentucky came out Posted: 19 Apr 2010 01:42 AM PDT
Laura Ashley Bell Bundy (born April 10, 1981) is an American actress and singer who has performed in a number of Broadway roles, both starring and supporting, as well as in television and film. Her most well known Broadway roles are the original Amber in Hairspray and the original Elle Woods in Legally Blonde - The Musical. She signed to Mercury Records Nashville and released her first country music single, "Giddy On Up," to radio in early 2010. Laura Bell Bundy got her big start in Broadway musicals playing Elle Woods in Legally Blonde, Glinda in Wicked and Amber Von Tussle in Hairspray. Now the Kentucky-born performer is now taking on the country music scene. Oh my god, oh my god, you guysss! Her upcoming album, Achin' and Shakin', isn't out for a few months but the video to her fun first single "Giddy On Up" was just released. The dance sequence is killer! Check it out below and you can buy the song on iTunes, which I just did! FYI: Laura Bell penned all but one of the songs on Achin' and Shakin', which is essentially two separate albums. Achin'– a collection of slow and sultry country songs — and Shakin', a group of sassy songs that are equal parts humor, confidence and attitude. "But I'm from Lexington, Kentucky," Bundy continued. "I listened to country music my whole life. I started writing music when I was a teenager. It all came out country." That said, Bundy's Broadway roots seem to show in the music video for the current single "Giddy On Up," with its lavish production values and let's-put-on-a-show sensibility. Bundy was quick to correct, saying the inspiration was actually more Music Row than Great White Way. "What I loved about country music when I was a kid was the Grand Ole Opry, was 'Hee Haw,' was 360 degrees of entertainment," explained Bundy, who is performing on Sunday's Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. "Make 'em laugh, make 'em cry, make 'em want to get up and make 'em dance two-step or line dance or whatever. ... I feel like that has been missing recently." You grew up in Kentucky. Did you have to choose between doing theater or singing country music? Bundy: You know, my mother and my family always instilled in me that anything was possible and I didn't have to make a choice. ... I think that you can do anything that you set your heart and your mind to. But, yeah, you split your focus. I kind of focused more on singing than dancing, and then the acting thing just came naturally and developed over time. The more life I had, the better actor I was. ... I think the songwriting didn't come until I was a teenager, and that was something that I kind of had to put on hold. I always did it. I always wrote. I wrote kind of as a therapy, but I wasn't able to focus on it because there were all these other things going on. And while I was doing some of the Broadway theater work, I would also try to do the music. But I was still spending the majority of my time on Broadway stuff. You did really well on Broadway, so was it hard to leave that behind? No, because I had spent 10 years pursuing country music and had decided at one point, "I'm not going to try to get a record deal. I'm going to do an independent album." And I did. It was before I did Legally Blonde. And while I was doing Legally Blonde, I would do these gigs on my days off. My contract was coming up for renegotiation. They wanted me to stay for an additional year, but I was like, "I'm gonna stay for six months, and that's it," and I made the decision that I was going to move to Nashville. I had no deal. I had nothing, and I was just going to move because I wanted to be in this community and finally give my songwriting and my music a chance like I had given the other things a chance. Tony-nominated Actress Goes from Broadway Stage to Country Radio Looking back, the 18-year-old Bundy moved to the Big Apple to attend New York University and run on its track team. While there, she forged a country duo with her then-roommate Amber Rhodes, and together, they penned and performed songs in various New York clubs. "Everything we did, our Kentucky came out," recalled Bundy in her label-generated artist bio. "We were in the middle of New York singing country songs, which was kind of our gimmick in some way. We took it very seriously. Then we decided to do our own thing." Nevertheless, it was Bundy's acting, including a two-year stint on The Guiding Light soap opera and her work on Broadway, that paid the bills. Tags: Laura Bell Bundy |
Luke Bryan up against Gloriana and Joey and Rory Posted: 19 Apr 2010 01:34 AM PDT
Thomas Luther "Luke" Bryan (born July 17, 1976, in Leesburg, Georgia) is an American country music artist. He debuted in 2007 with the single "All My Friends Say", a Top 5 single on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. His debut album, I'll Stay Me, was released on Capitol Records in 2007. This album also produced chart singles in "We Rode in Trucks" and "Country Man". In addition to his own material, Bryan co-wrote Billy Currington's 2007 Number One hit "Good Directions" with the help of his distant cousin Skye Robinson. A fourth single, "Do I", charted in early 2009 as the first single for his second album, Doin' My Thing. Trace Adkins returned to "The Celebrity Apprentice" on April 18, and he brought new artists Emily West and Luke Bryan with him. Apparently they need makeovers, though we think they've been doing just fine on their own. Emily's song "Blue Sky" features superstar Keith Urban, and Luke Bryan took home the Best New Artist award at tonight's Academy of Country Music Awards. Cyndi Lauper and Goldberg were named project managers, though Goldberg understandably let Bret Michaels take over. After all, who better knows how to sell a musician than an 80s icon? Leesburg's Luke Bryan accepted his award for best New Artist at the Academy of County Music Awards tonight. He was up against Gloriana and Joey and Rory. Bryan thanked his partners, family, fans and gave credit to his roots right here in southwest Georgia. Bryan also appeared on the Apprentice Sunday night where the men's crew had to plan a concert for him. Luke Bryan married his college sweetheart, Caroline, on December 6, 2006. They have one child, Thomas Boyer "Bo" Bryan, born March 18, 2008. It was annouced on February 25, 2010 that Bryan and his wife are expecting their second child together, due in August. On April 18th 2010, Luke was featured on an episode of Celebrity Apprentice. Tags: gloriana, joey and rory, lady antebellum, chris young, eric church |
