The news came just hours after BCCI president Shashank Manohar declared the suspension of former IPL commissioner and chairman Lalit Modi, who stands accused of a range of alleged misdemeanours from rigging financial bids to betting and bribery. Lalit Modi was kicked out immediately after the conclusion of the final of the third edition of the tournament in Mumbai yesterday. ”The IPL is a great property and commercial aspects in certain events is an important thing,” Manohar said. ”However, ethics and transparency is more important. ”In the last 15 days there have been a lot of allegations and counter allegations made in the media as a result of which the board has looked into the allegations which were levelled. ”It took a decision to issue a show-cause notice to Mr Lalit Modi and, pending inquiry, decided to suspend him. ”In today’s meeting, the members unanimously appointed Mr Chirayu Amin as the interim chairman of the IPL. ”We have also asked Prof Ratnakar Shetty (chief administrative officer), to look into all the records because many of the documents are missing from the offices of the IPL and the board. ”Therefore Prof Shetty will look into all these aspects in connection with the documents.” Lalit Modi had at first denied to attend the governing council meeting, calling it illegal and unauthorised as only he, as IPL chairman, had the powers to convene the council. Varkala Radhakrishnan (Former MP and CPI-M leader) passed away Former MP and CPI-M leader leader Varkala Radhakrishnan passes away. Veteran Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) leader Varkala Radhakrishnan died Monday morning, a party official said. Varkala Radhakrishna was 82. Senior CPI-M leader and former Lok Sabha member Varkala Radhakrishnan passes away here today following complications resulting from an accident last week. 84-year-old Radhakrishnan was a former Kerala assembly Speaker, was undergoing treatment at the Medical College Hospital for the last few days after he was hit by a vehicle while on a morning stroll. Doctors said that Varkala Radhakrishnan suffered fracture in the ribs which affected the functioning of his lungs. His condition deteriorated last night and he died at 9 am, they said. Radhakrishnan is survived by wife, son and two daughters. Radhakrishnan was elected to the Lok Sabha thrice from Chirayinkil constituency and made a mark as an able Parliamentarian. Radhakrishnan was elected to the Kerala Assembly four times from Varkala segment and Radhakrishnan served as Speaker of the House between 1987 and 1991 when the LDF government led by E K Nayanar was in power. The parties could also consider launching a nationwide action to protest government's "failure" to prevent rise in prices of essential commodities, probably a 'Bharat Bandh' in the last week of April. A cut motion puts to test the strength of the government in the Lok Sabha. Mulayam Singh Yadav, a Samajwadi Party chief will attend the April 12 meeting along with Prakash Karat of CPM, A B Bardhan of CPI, Lalu Prasad of RJD and leaders of AIADMK, Telugu Desam Party, Indian National Lok Dal, JD(S), Biju Janata Dal, Rashtriya Lok Dal, Forward Bloc and Revolutionary Socialist Party. The BJP party today said it was not opposed to the 13 non-NDA and non-UPA parties-sponsored ‘Bharat Bandh’ on April 27 but may not support it either as the party has not taken a view. However, since the BJP held its own anti-price rise rallies in over 1000 places across the country that culminated in yesterday’s rally in the national capital, the party may not support the Bandh of these parties, he said.
