Posted: 13 Aug 2010 09:07 AM PDT

Peepli Live

Peepli Live

Peepli [Live] with the touch of humour & artistic visualization of realistic problems of India has managed to touch the hearts of the Indians. The Amir Khan Productions movie-Peepli [Live] which has already made profit, but will it set a new record at the box-office remains to be seen.

Meanwhile those who have watched the movie are in awe of it. While the issue of farmer suicide has been haunting rural India for a very long time, Peepli [Live] has managed to actually make the common Indian realize the plight of farmers. Had there been a documentary movie about the same topic I doubt any Indian would have paid half-as much attention.

But being delivered by Amir Khan Productions the movie has reached its goal.
Peepli [Live] is sure to make profit at the box-office for the masses have really liked the characters, well-chosen by director Anusha Rizvi. Natha played by Omkar Das Manikpuri has been specially commended for his great acting skills. Also Raghuvir Yadav gets recognition for his acting prowess.

The crowd that just saw the movie were interviewed & most of them called the movie an 'eye-opener' for the educated Indian. They also recommended that the e-journalists should watch this movie & learn a lesson from it.

Vamsam Movie Review: Lineage clash and bloodshed fails to impress

Posted: 13 Aug 2010 07:43 AM PDT

Vamsam Review

Vamsam Review

The latest movie by Pandiraj, 'Vamsam' offers a look at village lineages entangled in the web of feuds, festivals, and blood shed. Arulnidhi Thamizharasu, the grand son of Chief Minister Karunanidhi makes his debut as the hero in this flick. Though the subject seems to be well tried and tested, the movie succeeds in grabbing one's attention at least in some places.

The story is focused on the two towns of Pulivathanam and Singampidari, identified as Kanaadu and Konaadu. Dominated by the Devar community, the center of discussion at the area is an yearly festival that almost extends to a fortnight. The land is home to eleven clans whose lineage can be traced to that of ancient monarchs.

Among them, five are believed to be more powerful and dominating. Anbarasu, played by Arulnidhi is the lone descendant of one of them – Eppadu Pattalum Pirpadu Kodathavar.
The festival once again becomes the focal point as its rules contribute immense importance to the power struggle.

The festival cannot be hampered by any deaths happening during the time and those dead will have their rites done without any honor. The rule facilitates many killings in the period and leads to celebrations for the gained party. The hero, though a peaceful youngster however gets involved in the fights between the lineages. Meanwhile, he also comes across his love interest played by Sunaina.

The movie despite its multiple ingredients fails to deliver in terms of several factors, especially the climax. Debutant Arulnidhi could have done better in his maiden role. Overall, 'Vamsam', can be credited just as an average movie experience.

Help Movie review: it needs “help” in the chilling factor

help

Director: Rajeev Virani, Producer:Sanjay Ahluwalia,Vinay Choksey, Star Cast:Bobby Deol,Mugdha Godse,Sophia Handa,Shreyas Talpade,Salim Fateh,Jyoti Dogra, Release Date: August 13, 2010, Language: Hindi, Rating :2/5
The very fundamental aspect of a horror movie is its chilling factor and Help falters in achieving it throughout the narrative. It's an appealing idea as far as the script goes but the writers Deepak Pawar and Viddesh Malandkar falter with the thought wavering at regular intervals.

A riveting start raises the expectations from the Hindi movie Help, culminating into washout at the end with typical stuff like ghosts frightened by mirrors and above all sidetracking of the parapsychologist, Aditya (Shreyas Talpade) who was so important in finding the cause of the problems in the house.

Cinematography [Dhimant Vyas] is surreal and Director Rajeev Virani is very successful in the stylish treatment to the notion which keeps oscillating from very engrossing to a total disappointment when it garners the age-old Bollywood formula of horror.

Bobby Deol and Mugdha as the protagonists are pretty convincing while Jyoti Dogra scores more. Shreyas is as usual good and the actor playing Mugdha's dad is also aptly cast in the role.

The fact that the movie shifts spotlight to Bobby at the end when Shreyas held the reins all along is not explainable and it also gets agonizingly slow at times.

The plot can be summarized as a turn on at first when Mugdha and Bobby face conflict in their marital life which aggravates when they have to rush to Mauritius to help her sick father. Her arrival to the house sparks the rise of the spirit of her twin sister Dia who died when they were just 5. The evil soul overpowers Pia who is pregnant and a murders people around her.

In the end the curse on the family is broken to rid Pia of the brutalities of the evil soul troubling her. The songs in the film are just fine nothing overwhelming and the hindi film Help though stylish in its concoction seriously lacks the very essential chills and thrills in the true Bollywood style.

Independence Day of India 2010: India Ready to Celebrate 15 August

Independence Day

Independence Day

Independence Day in India marks a day of pride for Indian citizens. It is a day when they are reminded of the independence struggle that preceded August 14, 1947. This year, Independence Day marks 63 years of freedom from British rule. Is there anything that can make a true Indian happier? A country that is known for its religious and cultural diversity, is brought together in a unifying thread on this special occasion of independence day.

Celebrations run throughout the country with Indians participating in events like Independence day quiz, independence day slogans, writing contests, kite-flying, etc.

On Independence day, even the corporate world is not left untouched. Many companies are encouraging employees to send each other Independence Day messages, to read out historic independence day speeches, to share independence day greetings and what not. This day brings the country together and proves our resilience to foreign forces. However, internal threats such as home sponsored terrorism worry the government and citizens more than ever before.

Independence day is probably also a time when one needs to sit and reflect. It is a time when we not only read Independence Day quotes or speeches, but derive lessons of true freedom from them. Independence Day images are those of a bright blue sky, of free pigeons and of our tri-colour flag in the blowing breeze. What we need to add to it is a sense of peace. Independence day is, otherwise, incomplete if citizens do not feel secure even in a free India. Click here for independence SMS, Massage, songs etc

Peepli Live

Peepli Live

With strong subject and a compact story line and to support the Aamir Khan's masterpiece, the unfamiliar faces of the characters is the secret recipe of the success of Peepli [live] which has allured the audience with its unique subject and treatment. The movie believes in projecting the harsh reality and corruption of the present times involving various agencies which use these public issues like farmer's suicides in India for their own material and selfish end. They never give a thought to the various circumstances which force a farmer to take such a hard step and end his life.

Peepli live brings out these circumstances but refrains from giving any solutions. The characters in the movie are people that we would have met at some point in our lives and therefore look familiar and known. The character of Natha played by Omkar Das Manipuri reminds us of the heroes of Premchand like his Hori Mahato from Godaan.

The strength of the movie lies in its comic treatment of the sensitive subject which brings out the black humor and looks at the corruption with grotesque and scornful eyes in the ridiculing of the entire political system and TRP hungry media and communication set up of the country.  click here for peepli live movie review
