| Ukai Dam Level Rises; Surat on flood alert Posted: 31 Aug 2010 03:51 AM PDT  Ukai dam current leve The city of Surat is once again on flood alert ahead of heavy rain forecast that may force a huge quantity of water to be released from Ukai dam. The Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted 11.5 inch rainfall on Wednesday, a revision from the earlier stipulated 23 inches. According to District Collector A J Shah, a total of 2 lakh cusec water shall be released on Tuesday morning from the Ukai dam. In 2006, Surat had witnessed one of the worst floods when most of the city went under water after over 10 lakh cusec of water was released from Ukai. |
