Rahul Gandhi’s Maharashtra Visit: No entry for Chappals! Posted: 07 Sep 2010 11:14 AM PDT
Rahul Gandhi is busy touring the whole of India it seems and trying his best to inculcate the value of true politics in the youth, encouraging them to look at the brighter and cleaner side of politics and join hands in saving the nation. The whirlwind tour of Rahul landed him in Maharashta at the Panjabrao Deshmukh Agricultural University today. The interactive meeting bore a slightly different atmosphere as the students were forbidden to wear chappals or rubber sandals, into the auditorium for fear that some of the footwear might end up flying at the Congress general secretary! The security concerns are natural after the nation has seen a host of chappal-flying incidents of late. Although the chappals may not find their mark, but then prevention is better than cure isn't it? However the students were saved from the humiliation of removing the sandals as the University authorities decided to take full responsibility of the students' conduct. The 75 minutes meeting with about 500 post-graduation students of the Panjabrao Deshmukh Agricultural University went on smoothly after that. Rahul Gandhi held a very interactive session with politics, education, agriculture and corruption being the top agendas discussed. A party official claimed that the meeting bore a very informal atmosphere with students giving their inputs with enthusiasm. The Congress general secretary had specifically requested that no politicians or journalists be present during this meeting. The campaigning is aimed at bringing in more students into the youth wing of the Congress Party- the National Students Union of India. The NSUI is likely to soon hold elections and Rahul Gandhi is acting as the mentor for those who wish to join. Soon after the meeting Rahul boarded his helicopter to visit Aurangabad and then later he is scheduled to visit Pune. Regarding the chappal-barring incident, neither the party officials nor the police have given any comments. If such security concerns are going to be raised every time a politician holds a meeting, my guess is chappals will soon end up out of fashion! |

Crook Or Twilight? Emraan Dons Vampire Look Posted: 07 Sep 2010 10:40 AM PDT
Emraan Hasmi the retired serial kisser of Bollywood is now donning on a new act. He is dressed as a vampire for a song sequence in his next movie Crook! As he can no longer kiss the female leads after updating his marital status, I guess he's settling for a bite instead. So we will see an Emraan Hasmi with proper fangs and all the vampire paraphernalia attached to his face dancing away to glory in 'Mere Bina'. If you are wondering why Emraan had this sudden inspiration to pull a Twilight act in Bollywood, here's the story-after the director of Crook called for a break, Emraan wandered off to browse through the many shops in Australia. He happened to enter one which sold female costumes as well as wigs. Makes me wonder why would he do such a thing, but apparently he did enter the shop & even went on to try some stuff out. That's when Mohit Suri saw him in a vampire get up & captured the moment in his camera. So a reluctant Hasmi was soon convinced by Suri to keep the fangs on and the vampire get-up for the song 'Mere Bina' in Crook. Suri had long been searching for a good and unconventional way to shoot that song & finally this chance inspiration came up to him. But of course Emraan was a bit hesitant about the whole thing as any guy would be, admit it Hasmi-not everyone can be a Robert Pattinson! The movie Crook-It's good to be bad is slotted to be released on October 8th this year. The film is produced by Mahesh Bhatt and will see Neha Sharma as the female lead along with our newbee vampire Emraan Hasmi. I can't wait to see if Emraan can really pull off a song with the fangs on! |
Kim Sharma marries Kenyan tycoon Ali Punjani Posted: 07 Sep 2010 04:30 AM PDT
Kim Sharma was initially reportedly seeing a very handsome Spanish Guy named Carlos Marin and was also planning about shifting to Madrid, but these events suddenly took a turn as now the actress has officially called of her relationship with Carlos and has already tied the knot with Kenyan business tycoon Ali Punjani. The marriage ceremony was held two weeks before in Mombasa, Kenya. Insider sources revealed that the duo had been seeing each other for the past few days and as their love grew Kim felt that they should immediately walk the altar. The source also added that the marriage ceremony was a very confidential event attended by only near and dear ones including close friends and family. We wonder what Carlos has to say about all this. Moreover Kim's close friend Preeti Janghiani was missing from the event, which brought about doubts as to whether there is a breakage in their bonds now. The hush-hush wedding affair was a result of the visits Kim made to the African safari where she met Ali Punjani. There friendship grew into love and then followed marriage. Carlos had also proposed marriage to Kim and the actress was looking forward to her life in Madrid. The Spanish dude was introduced to the actress while she was on a trip and he was a member of a Spanish band. Before Carlos Kim was also linked to Yuvraj Singh the cricketer, but things did not work well between the two and then followed a disastrous media hyped break-up. Anyways we hope that Mrs. Punjani do enjoy a happily married life with the rich guy. |
All India Bandh disrupts life in major cities? Posted: 07 Sep 2010 04:02 AM PDT Trade Unions have called for an all India bandh, showing dissatisfaction due to price rise. Other reasons for this open protest are disinvestment in public sector, the foreign capital inflow in India's retail markets and widespread retrenchment. Many cities have been badly affected due to the trade unions' firm steps. The worst impact has been felt in Bengal and Kerala, closely followed by places like Manipur, Assam and Maharashtra too. Transportation has been hit by the all India bandh, as many flights have been cancelled by players like Jet airways and Kingfisher. In Kolkata alone, more than a 100 flights have been stopped. Spicejet and Indigo also cancelled many flights, with Air India resorting to rescheduling. This is expected to affect travelers adversely. At the same time, the all India Bandh has affected major cities like Mumbai, where no taxis and auto rickshaws could be seen. It is observed that over one lakh autos have joined the protest and many taxis too. Some respite has been provided in Mumbai by functioning of the Best buses and of the local train. Overall, the impact of inflation in essential commodities has pushed transport trade unions to extreme measures. In places like Kerala, there is an absolute shut down. Even schools and educational institutes are closed due to want of buses for transport. “Nearly six crore workers will participate in the strike across the country. Those employed in private sector will also join the strike in many places,” All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) General Secretary and CPI MP Gurudas Dasgupta told PTI. Clearly, the entire nation has come together to jointly take part in this strike. After almost 63 years, all the trade unions have joined hands for a common cause. They are united for a single reason – to curb prices of commodities. There is only so much that the government has control over. For now, only the 'common man' seems to be bearing the brunt. |
Kavitha Krishnamurthi’s hubby charged with sexual assault Posted: 07 Sep 2010 04:01 AM PDT Kavitha Krishnamurthi's husband, L Subramaniam is amidst a sexual abuse controversy as the couple's domestic help has filed a complaint against him with the charge of rape. The household maid Bhagya, 27 filed a complaint at the Sanjay Nagar police station in Bangalore during early hours on Friday but coincidentally L Subramaniam had already registered a case against the maid on the grounds of thievery which included stealing 5000 euros from the residence. The foreign currency was brought back by the singer when Kavitha Krishnamurthi and hubby L Subramaniam went to US for a concert together. Kavitha informed that they had taken a stop at Europe while on the trip and as the exchange rates had dipped they did not get the currency changed and instead brought it back home and locked it in a drawer. When they later thought of getting the money exchanged they instead found it missing. This was noted during Augusts first week. Consequently they thought upon the missing money and suspected their maid behind it. Further more their daughter Bindu informed that a similar situation was faced by the family 5 years ago when a cook and driver got together and stole a particular amount of money which was later retrieved. The singer reported that valuables worth 30,000 a cash amount worth 50,000 and I pod were found missing but the family did not officially report the incident as there was a death during that period marked in the family. Bhagya was supplied to the family from Avon Agency and supposedly had a clear record. The maid's version for her complaint had her telling officials that L Subramaniam had been after her for sexual favors and he had also threatened to spoil her reputation if she came out in the open about it. |

Salman Khan ignores racial controversy supports secularism Posted: 07 Sep 2010 02:56 AM PDT Salman Khan recently grew furious when a channel reporter approached the actor with a controversial question related to his upcoming movie Dabangg. The actor, who was spotted in Nagpur along with Sonakshi Sinha for the promotion of the flick, was badly upset when a reporter asked the actor as to why the film was being termed as an Eid release and not a Ganpati release as the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi is round the corner. Salman was visibly agitated but the actor did not let loose of his temper and instead did not provide any direct answer to the question put up. However Sonakshi was highly agitated at the effort made to bring up a controversy and tweeted about this saying that the reporter was only trying to get fodder for his channel for the sake of mileage. Salman's last flick Wanted was also released during the same time last year, near the festival of Eid. It is considered by filmmakers that the period of Eid is lucky for the actor due to the good response Wanted achieved and hence it was because of this that the Dabangg filmmakers jotted down the date to be somewhere close to Eid. This particular decision had no relations with Salman's personal religious beliefs in any case. Moreover the actor is known to participate and celebrate various Hindu festivals too. Recently he was spotted at a dahi-handi function at the occasion of Janmashtami. The actor is a staunch believer in secularism and togetherness. In fact Salman regularly initiates in the Ganpati festival every year in Mumbai. |
