Cholera Grips Orissa: 87 Dead In Rayagada District Posted: 11 Sep 2010 10:08 AM PDT
Cholera has spread its deadly wings again & this time it's hit the Rayagada district in Orissa. The residents of this area who are suffering from this epidemic comprise of people below the poverty line. Their economically deprived condition and lack of hygiene has rendered them helpless. The areas bearing the brunt of this disease are Bissam Cuttak, Kasipur, Kalyasinghpur, Gudari, Jaganathpura and Jameidipur. Unable to have access to proper drinking water, these poor villagers often have to depend on the natural water sources like river and ponds. And the contaminated water has taken its toll on the lives of many in the form of cholera. Most of the villagers don't purify the water and hence have taken ill. Cholera is spreading all over the district rapidly. The State Health Department has taken note of the rising no. of cholera cases and has swung into action. The no. of deaths due to cholera now stands at an astounding 87. The State Health Minister, Prasanna Acharaya has assured the people of Rayagada district that help is underway & soon there will be a host of doctors attending on those affected. “Government is taking all steps possible and a team of doctors has been dispersed. Paramedical team has also been dispersed from outside the district. Senior health officers of the health department have also been deployed there and are making all sets of arrangements to see that all patients areas (have) been given proper treatment and timely treatment,” Acharaya said, Meanwhile another innovative solution has been applied to stop the untimely deaths of those affected by cholera or diarrhea. The Orissa district administration has set up this unique policy by which a person will be given Rs100 if he manages to help a patient reach the nearest hospital. A district officer clarified-”If a poor person takes a patient to hospital, he can’t work on that day thus losing a day’s wage. The Rs 100 cash incentive will ensure that the patients are taken to hospital before their condition deteriorates.” The collector of Rayagada district Nitin Bhanudas Jawle said that although the state health department is ever ready to send help & emergency services to the affected areas, it's not always possible to save every life. “Though our health officials and mobile units are regularly visiting cholera-hit villages and treating patients, they have come to know that many affected people live in remote inaccessible areas and rely on traditional treatments. It is extremely difficult for our mobile health units to travel quickly between villages, where roads are few and far between" he said. Hopefully with the help of the state authorities & a bit of humanely kindness more lives would be saved. Other areas are being alerted to take care of their drinking water & take proper precautions to prevent the outbreak of cholera. Prevention is always better cure after all. |

Double faced Pakistan bans Dabangg Posted: 11 Sep 2010 03:48 AM PDT So finally we see the double face of Pakistani government out in the open. According to the latest buzz Pakistan government has banned the release of Dabangg in their hometown. The movie stars Salman Khan and yesteryear's actor Shatrughan's Sinha's daughter, Sonakshi Sinha. She makes her debut through this movie. According to the statistics, bollywood movies are quite a rage amongst the Pakistani audiences and makes huge in Pakistan. The government of Pakistan, seeing such a huge response has even increased the entertainment tax on bollywood movies. They have increased the entertainment tax to65%, initially it was 35%. Thus, ends up with huge revenues from Indian movies. But this time, the much hyped Salman Khan starrer action packed movie Dabangg received a lukewarm response from the Pakistani government. The Government has banned any release of Bollywood or Indian movie during the festive season of Eid. Though, had the banned not been there, Dabangg would have surely made huge profits as Salaman Khan is very popular among the masses. The situation is such that, many of the television series are also been taken off from the Pakistani channels, which have Indian origins. Even Prime Minister of Pakistan is a huge fan of Indian cinema and entertainment world and affirms to salvage the bitter relationship between the two countries through the entertainment world, but we can easily see the double standards in their statements. This move definitely has created remorse in the Pakistani audiences, who love to watch bollywood cinema. And as far as the business point of view is concerned, surely piracy would take a great toll on the movie now as people will now go for the pirated version of this flick. |
CLT20: Wayamba Elevens Take on Warriors Posted: 11 Sep 2010 02:47 AM PDT
CLT20 got off to a flying start when Mumbai Indians vs Highveld Loins game got on the way. This game turned out be a real nail-biter. All the fans who came to see the match and support their team got the money back as it went right down to wire. As I mentioned yesterday in the following Article of mine that Mumbai Indians are a good team yet they can not afford to take Highveld Loins lightly. Lions vs Mumbai: Johannesburg Is all Set For The Opener of CLT20 http://www.latestsportsbuzz.com/?p=6985 but instead of taking Highveld Loins seriously Mumbai Indians took them lightly and paid the prize at the end of the game. In this game Mumbai Indians lost to loins by 9 runs. In this game Loins showed their batting skills first and posted a huge total of 186/5 runs on the board and set a target of 187 runs for Mumbai Indians to win the game. In reply Mumbai Indians got off to a flying start but they failed in utilizing the start given by their skipper Sachin Tendulkar. He made 69 runs. But on the other hand he did not get any support. So in this way Mumbai Indians could manage only 177 runs on the board and fell 9 runs short of their target. For playing blistering innings of 71 runs in just 48 balls Jonathan Vandiar got man of the match award. But looking at the scoreboard I can tell you that this match was evenly contested by both the teams till the end. But today there is a match between Wayamba Elevens of Sri Lanka and Warriors. Both the teams are evenly matched. Last year Wayamba Elevens were crashed out of the tournament in the first round but this time it will be difficult for other teams because this time Wayamba Elevens have many super talented players like Jayawardene, Ajantha Mendis and many more. On the other hand Warriors are also not a light side because they too have players like Boucher, Ntini, Boje, Ingram, Botha who can change the momentum of the game anytime at will. Team Composition: Wayamba Elevens:Perera, Welegedera, Herath, Mendis, Lokuarachi, Udana, Mubarak, Udwatte, Kulatunga, Jayewardene, HunuKumbura, Mahroof, Karunanayke, De Zoysa, Janith Perera Warriors:Boje, THeron, Ntini, Tsotosbe, Kruger, Meyer, Prince, Ingram, Thyssen, Jacobs, Smutts, Botha, Kreusch, D. Jacobs, Boucher. So guys this match is also going to be a treat to watch because it is between Wayamba Elevens Vs Warriors. |
