Kama Sutra actress Sarita Choudhury wants to shift to India

Kama Sutra actress Sarita Choudhury wants to shift to India Raised across the globe and living out of a suitcase, Indian origin actress Sarita Choudhury, best known for her role in "Kama Sutra", wants to shift base to India to make her life "culturally rich". She also wants to learn an Indian language but isn't sure if Bollywood is the place for her.

"I was raised around the world. I wasn't raised in America but my work has been there and you start wanting to draw from where you come from. There is a limit to that and that's what it is," Sarita, 44, told IANS in an interview here.

"I want my life to match my work now. I don't want to work and then travel. I want to be at one place," added the New York-based half-Bengali, half English actress.

"I want to (shift base to India). People think I don't want to come back. They think I want to be in America as it has been really good to me. But I need something more culturally rich now," said Sarita, who travels everywhere with her seven-year-old daughter Maria.

So any deadline for the move? "I'd like to do it soon," she said. "I think I should do it soon."

Sarita, who was also seen in Mira Nair's "Mississippi Masala" apart from "Kama Sutra: A Tale Of Love", is in the country to promote her latest outing "For Real". But she has been to India many times earlier.

"My parents live in Kolkata so I come every year. I've been to (film) festivals; so I do end up coming but always for a short period."

However, it is film capital Mumbai that has caught her fancy.

"I haven't been out on the streets enough, but even driving through (there)... I just love it. Bombay is a port city - it smells of sailors and ships and palm trees and dirt - it just has everything beautiful," she said.

"Bombay is kind of tropical and then there is the film industry. Everyone is out late at night and there is so much action going on. There is life in your face there.

"For an actor, it is a very interesting place to pick things from and put into your role...which is why I kind of like New York," she added.

So is Bollywood the next destination?

"I would do Bollywood, but I don't know if I could do that - the dance, the singing, the kind of flirting with your eyes, the outfits...But I guess it's changing. I can totally do the independent cinema here."

Having worked with Mira Nair, is she aware about other Indian filmmakers?

"Sudhir Mishra, Vishal (Bharadwaj) and Anurag (Kashyap). I've met them at festivals in other countries but I am never there long enough. Every time I say I'm interested (in a project), I then leave. So no one really thought I'm serious.

"So what I have really thought to do is to take six months, come and live here and just be available," said Sarita.

She also conceded it was time she learnt an Indian language.

"I have decided now that it's time I learnt Bengali may be...but Hindi would be useful," said the actress who speaks French, Italian and English.

Her upcoming project "For Real" has been written, directed and produced by debutant Sona Jain. Shot in Delhi and New York, the English language movie is about an imaginative six-year-old girl, who, because of the ensuing depression in her parents' life, starts believing her mother (Sarita) is an alien from a different galaxy. Having won laurels across the world festival circuit, it is releasing here Friday.

"It is really interesting because it's from her (the child's) perspective and how they use fantasy to deal with real issues...It's an important film for people living here (India)," said Sarita.

As for her future projects, "I am trying to work more in India and Europe now and try and give some time to that," said the actress, who also plans to pen a script some day.

Salman Khan Plans To Quit Twitter

Bollywood star Salman Khan is contemplating quitting the micro-blogging site Twitter following the controversy over his comments on the 26/11 terror attack.

"Looks like I might have to get off Twitter. Don't want to but what to do? I think I messed up, so sorry guys, sorry bolne mein koi sharam nahi (there's no shame in saying sorry)," Salman posted on his Twitter page.

The 44-year-old, whose latest film "Dabangg" has the cash registers ringing, is being criticised for his comments to a Pakistani TV channel that the 26/11 attack attracted "too much hype" as only "elite people were targeted".

But the actor apologised when he realised his comments were being blown out of proportion.

Salman's father, veteran scriptwriter Salim Khan defended his son and said he is not "articulate and political".

That could be one of the reasons why Salman is planning to pull off from Twitter. He had joined the social networking site in April this year.

Bollywood Diva Raveena Tandon poses for PETA

Posted: 13 Sep 2010 03:19 AM PDT

Bollywood Diva Raveena Tandon poses for PETABollywood actress Raveena Tandon is trying to create awareness about the sufferings of snakes and other animals whose skins are used to make accessories, by posing for an advertisement for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).

In the ad, the 35-year-old is wearing a slinky outfit that resembles snakeskin while lying in a pool of blood, with the words - Wearing Exotic Skins Kills. Leave Wildlife Out of Your Wardrobe - written below it.

"Wearing shoes, clothes and other accessories made out of exotic skin is about as cold-blooded as it gets," said Raveena in a statement released here Monday.

"These days, there's a wild kingdom of fake snake, mock crocodiles and python leather that pay tribute to the beauty of these animals without making them fashion victims."

The National Award winning actress wants consumers to know about the suffering that snakes, alligators and other animals endure before their skins are made into shoes, bags and other products.

"Snakes are commonly nailed to trees or posts and skinned alive. After animals' mutilated bodies are discarded, it can take hours for them to die. Alligators on factory farms are crammed into small spaces and then beaten to death with hammers or axes," said Raveena.

She has now joined the bandwagon of celebrities like John Abraham, Pamela Anderson, Sir Paul McCartney and Jackie Chan who have taken part in campaigns for PETA to save animals.

Aamir Khan Says 'Dhobi Ghaat' made me fall in love with Kiran again

Aamir Khan Says 'Dhobi Ghaat' made me fall in love with Kiran againBollywood superstar Aamir Khan admits he was not enthusiastic about wife Kiran Rao's "Dhobi Ghaat" script. But after the story reading session, he says he was so impressed that he fell in love with this "really talented woman" again.

"I didn't want Kiran to finish 'Dhobi Ghaat.' Which is not a nice thought, but she did finally complete the script. Then she said she wants me to listen to it. I said you have to read it out to me," Aamir told reporters Sunday here at conference for their film "Dhobi Ghat".

Aamir and Kiran were here for the screening of "Dhobi Ghaat" at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival.

"I said let's go to Kannur, where my filmmaker cousin Mansoor (Khan) lives, and Mansoor and I will get together (to listen to the script). Hoping that Mansoor doesn't like it as well, I thought I will at least have the numbers on my side. I was really terrified of the script," Aamir, 45, said.

"But when she began the narration with Mansoor, his wife and I listening to it, I was so fascinated by what she had written. It is one of the best scripts I have ever read. It is so delicate and beautiful. The characters are so well written. The lines are so well written. Her characters speak in such a different and unique voice," said Aamir.

After hearing the complete script, Aamir fell in love with Kiran all over again.

"All (about the script) hit me and I said I was married to a really talented woman. When I fell in love with her for the first time, I didn't know how talented she was. But after reading her script, I was really amazed," said Aamir who met Kiran on the sets of his home production "Lagaan". She was an assistant to director Ashutosh Gowariker.

Complimenting his wife, he said: "Kiran is hugely talented not only as an actor but also as a director. She is another important addition to creative talent in Indian cinema."

Aamir, who separated from his first wife Reena in 2002, married Kiran in 2005.

At the conference Aamir and Kiran treated the media to bouts of light-hearted banter.

In "Dhobi Ghaat", Aamir plays painter Arun. Set in Mumbai, the film revolves around four people who are separated by class and language but are drawn into compelling relationships. Actor Pratiek Babbar plays a key role in the film.

Amid laughter, Aamir told reporters, "Kiran didn't even want me in the film."

Kiran responded, "Somehow diabolically and Machiavelli (like), he got the role."

When Kiran said she found it "a little harder" to pick someone for the role of Arun "because I didn't want someone who is famous as the shooting was done on location in Mumbai," Aamir's rejoinder came, "She didn't even want me in the film. I was most upset."

The Bollywood star said intially he was keen to play Munna the washer boy in the film.

"When I read the script first, I just fell in love with Munna because he is such a wonderful character. But I said there is no way I can play Munna because he is so young. Playing the role of Arun? I said I am excited about playing Arun, but I am excited about playing Munna. But Kiran said, 'Aamir what are you talking? You are not even in the film. You are not playing a role,'" Aamir said.

Kiran put even her star husband through the same casting tests as others. There were no favours.
