Socialite Paris Hilton to avoid jail by pleading guilty Posted: 20 Sep 2010 04:21 AM PDT Socialite-heiress Paris Hilton will avoid jail after agreeing to a plea bargain in a cocaine case. The occassional actress-singer-designer, who was arrested in Las Vegas last month after cocaine was allegedly found in her possession, will plead guilty to two misdemeanours, meaning she will be sentenced to a year of probation but won't spend time behind bars, reports contactmusic.com. The 29-year-old will formally plead guilty to misdemeanour drug possession and misdemeanour obstructing an officer, when she appears before Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Joe Bonaventure Monday. If Hilton, who spent three weeks in prison in 2007 for violating the conditions of a driving under influence conviction, is arrested during her probation, her plea deal says she will serve a full year behind bars. The deal read: "Defendant shall stay out of trouble. Defendant agrees that an arrest for any charge, excluding minor traffic violations for which a citation is issued, shall result in the immediate termination of her probation and the execution of the suspended sentences." She was also arrested for drug possession in June in South Africa, although the charges were later dropped - must also complete a substance abuse programme, pay a $2,000 fine and perform 200 hours of community service. |

Ranbir Kapoor: I have miles to go Posted: 20 Sep 2010 03:41 AM PDT Ranbir Kapoor has his feet firmly rooted to the ground. Flattering comparisons with icon Amitabh Bachchan are brushed aside by the young star as "very premature". Ranbir, 27, a Kapoor family scion, doesn't approve of the comparison with the megastar, insisting that stars like Amitabh "come once in a lifetime". The comparison was made by director Siddharth Anand, whose "Anjaana Anjaani" in which Ranbir co-stars with Priyanka Chopra is due for release Sep 24. Siddharth, who collaborated with the actor earlier in "Bachna Ae Haseeno", said that Ranbir has the potential to follow in the footsteps of Amitabh and become the "complete Hindi film hero". "You cannot follow somebody's career path or match your stardom to anybody else's, especially Mr. Bachchan, because people like them come once in a lifetime," Ranbir told IANS in an intervew. "I have just started. It's been two-and-a-half-years, had six releases and I have miles to go, and all these titles like you are the next superstar doesn't make sense to me. I am too new. It's very premature. I need to first consolidate my position in the industry by doing more movies, work with more directors and improve." He was here at the Kingdom of Dreams with Priyanka to promote "Anjaana Anjaani", an interesting tale of two people who meet each other when they are about to end their lives. For Ranbir, this is his first film with National Award winning actress Priyanka Chopra. He is full of praise for her down-to-earth approach. "Apart from being a good actress, Priyanka is also a good human being. She has no airs, no attitudes, she's no diva, she is really basic (girl) and I think this is one of her greatest qualities." Ranbir takes pride in being a part the Kapoor khandan but doesn't want to "rest under his family's name" as he is more keen to create an individual identity for himself. "I feel honoured that I am a part of this family, which has been contributing to Indian cinema for more than 80 years now. There indeed is a responsibility that I have to carry forward. However, I don't want to rest under my family's name. I want to make a name for myself," Ranbir told IANS in an interview. "I want people to know me by my work. I feel that's what is important and that is what my efforts are towards," he added. The great grandson of legendary Prithviraj Kapoor, grandson of Bollywood's one and only showman Raj Kapoor and son of yesteryears stars Neetu and Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir has established himself as an actor to reckon with - and that in three years. His debut vehicle "Saawariya" (2007) didn't creat any buzz at the box office, but Ranbir rose above the film's fate and won the Filmfare award for the best male debut. In his short career, he has pushed the envelope by doing different roles like a lover boy in "Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani", a casanova in "Bachna Ae Haseeno" and a calculative scion of a political family in "Raajneeti". The actor maintains it wasn't a deliberate attempt on his part to play diverse roles, he was lucky enough to get such offers. "I have always maintained that I have been at the right place at the right time. I have been fortunate enough to work with good directors. I came at a time when scripts for younger actors were being written and I got an opportunity to work with some of the beautiful co-stars. I attribute it to luck," he said. As far as his love life is concerned, he is single after splitting with actress Deepika Padukone and says he is enjoying his own company. "Of course. But that doesn't mean I hate being in a relationship. It is amazing being in a relationship. It is amazing being in love, but being single is also great. It has its advantages. You get to spend a lot of time with yourself, you get to do things that you probably can't do when being in a relationship, hang out more with your friends, watch more movies, play video games, do silly boys stuff. So life is good," he said. |
'Anjaana Anjaani' about strangers falling in love at death point Posted: 20 Sep 2010 03:35 AM PDT From strangers to lovers to strangers again - is how the Ranbir Kapoor-Priyanka Chopra-starrer "Anjaana Anjaani" explores the relationship between a couple. The romantic saga is releasing Friday. Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by Siddharth Anand, "Anjaana Anjaani" is different from other romantic sagas. Generally couples in love commit to die for each other, but in this film romance blossoms after the two meet when they are about to commit suicide by jumping off a bridge. Shot in New York City, Las Vegas and San Francisco, the film is made at a budget of around Rs.25 crore. Priyanka says the topic of "Anjaana Anjaani" coincides with the current problem in society. According to a report, India has one of the highest suicide rates in the world and recent studies suggest about 40 percent are adolescents. At least 125 people aged 29 years or below are committing suicide every day and 51 percent of the total suicide victims are graduates or college students or youngsters. "With so many suicides happening it is a topic of discussion in India now. The greatest thing about this film is that it is the window which shows you shouldn't do that (commit suicide), you never know when life will turn around," Priyanka, 28, had told IANS. "Give yourself an opportunity. This message is conveyed in a beautiful way through the film," said the actress. Paired together for the first time, this is Priyanka's first and Ranbir's second film with the director after "Bachna Ae Haseeno" (2008). Set in the US, the story revolves around San Francisco-based Kiara (Priyanka) and New York boy Akash (Ranbir), who are tired of making it big in life and striking gold. After several failed attempts to be successful in their careers and love, both decide to end their lives. And as luck would have it, they land up on the same bridge at the same time! Akash stops Kiara from ending her life. He tells her to travel with him to Las Vegas to give life another chance, and thus begins a hilarious misadventure that brings them closer. However, destiny interrupts again and the duo are forced to part with the understanding that their days together were a brief interlude of insanity, which had to succumb to real life. With a contemporary appeal and foot-tapping numbers, the movie's music, composed by duo Vishal Dadlani-Shekhar Ravjiani, has been dominating the charts. Ranbir, 27, was keen to postpone the release date as it is coinciding with the day when the verdict in the 51-year-old Ramjanmabhoomi-Babri Masjid legal dispute will be pronounced. "Unfortunately our film is coming on that same date. I wish the film wouldn't have been releasing on Sep 24 because that day we need to seek harmony in our country and live with peace," he had said. However, with no competition at the box office that day and it being the last Friday of the month, this one may hit the jackpot. |

She is really fit and I thought that she is one who could really carry it best." |
