She is from the Iyer community. She comes from a middleclass family from Palghat, on the border of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Vidya did her schooling from St Antony's School and later on joined St Xavier's College from where she graduated in sociology. When she was doing her MA from Mumbai University, she was offered a role in a Malayalam film titled Chakram with Mohanlal, one of Vidya�s favorite actors. However, the project was shelved mid-way and Vidya had to wait for few more years to make her movie debut. She made her debut as a model in a Surf Excel advertisement in 1998. She has acted in scores of ad films, most of which were directed by Pradeep Sarkar. A couple of months later, she featured in three music videos (again directed by Sarkar) for �Euphoria�, Shubha Mudgal and Pankaj Udhas. Vidya also acted in Ashok Pandit�s TV serial Hanste Khelte and Ektaa Kapoor's Hum Paanch. In the meantime, she acted in Bengali movie Bhaalo Theko with actor Joy Sengupta. She even won the �best actress� Anand Lok Puraskar in Kolkata for her performance in the movie. It was in Mumbai, during a pop concert, when filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra approached her to play the female lead in his movie Parineeta, to be directed by Pradeep Sarkar. Vidya had to go through 40 screen tests and 17 make-up shoots before she was finally chosen for the lead role in the film. Certain difficulties and loopholes that you were not able to solve earlier, are resolved soon after reading books which are insightful. They help you adopt the right approach towards life and its hurdles. 'Veronica Decides To Die' and 'Two States' are some of the books I really liked. I am a big fan of fiction books and have read back to back books of Sydney Sheldon and Daniel Steel.During all our rehearsals, he would come up with funny lines and keep making additions or editing our lines. He always made us laugh! It was a very good experience sharing the stage with him. I have always been into theatre and drama from the very start and love it! It gives you a refreshing feeling before, during and after the performance. Its more live and there are no second chances unlike on camera. When filming a show or movie, everything is done in numerous re-takes and in bits and pieces. You have the opportunity of trial and error. But in theatre, whatever gestures or emotions you play or lines you deliver, are your first and last shot. And that is what makes it all the more exciting. The feeling you get when just entering on stage and getting into the character's skin, with a live audience out there focusing on you and only you, is very thrilling! It feels special to be their source of entertainment for those few hours Smile It gets in a lot more life into the plot of the drama.

Today was just about peak conditions for the 11,000 runners in the race which looked even more scenic in the sunshine. The men's division of the marathon was won in 2 hours 14 minutes and 2 seconds by Sergio Reyes of Palmdale, California who ran a new personal best time. In second place came Jeffrey Eggleston of New York in 2 hours 14 minutes and 9 seconds while third place went to Fernando Cabada of Longmont, CO, in 2 hours 15 minutes and 25 seconds, according to Kimberly Bogin over on examiner.com. In the women's race the winner was Deba Buzunesh of Ethiopia with a time of 2 hours 27 minutes and 24 seconds followed by Svetlana Ponomarenko of Russia in 2 hours 35 minutes and 23 seconds. In third place was Serkalem Abrha of Ethiopia with a time of 2 hours 36 minutes and 16 seconds. According to an Associated Press report on usatoday.com the top finishers from Minnesota were Donovan Fellows who finished ninth in the men's race and Nichole Porath who came in 20th position in the women's race.
