Hollywood Actress Natalie Portman left red-faced at awards ceremony Posted: 18 Oct 2010 05:01 AM PDT Hollywood actress Natalie Portman was left red-faced at the Environmental Media Awards after organisers aired a clip of her singing about recycling when she was just 11 years old. The actress was presenting a prize at the ceremony in Burbank, California, Saturday when footage of her as a youngster, dancing and singing about the benefits of recycling, began to roll, reports eonline.com Portman laughed off the embarrassing gag and went on to hand the EMA Corporate Responsibility Award to Jeff Skoll, producer of "The Cove" and environmental movie "The Crazies". Veteran Hollywood star Jane Fonda also showed up to honour her ex-husband Ted Turner for his foundation's work in stopping female genital mutilation. The ceremony, which pays tribute to TV and films with a positive environmental message, also saw James Cameron's "Avatar" win the top movie prize. Hit sitcom "30 Rock" and TV drama "Bones" were both honoured for episodes which tackled conservation themes, while HBO documentary "Gasland", about natural gas drilling in the US, was also celebrated. |
Singer Katy Perry bans pre-wedding intimacy Posted: 18 Oct 2010 04:49 AM PDT Singer Katy Perry has reportedly put an intimacy ban in place until she ties the knot to her fiance Russell Brand next weekend. The "I Kissed a Girl" singer, who is set to marry the British funny man next weekend in India has reportedly told him they must keep apart from one another until they are husband and wife, reports mirror.co.uk. "Katy wants everything to be special for their wedding, including the first night. The sex ban was definitely her idea," said a source. Brand was known for his womanising ways before he settled down with Perry and has previously praised her for turning his life around. However, the 35-year-old star has agreed with her decision. "Russell has reluctantly agreed, and they are sure it will be worth it after they have tied the knot," said the source. |
'Jackass 3D' laughs all the way to top of box office Posted: 18 Oct 2010 04:42 AM PDT The first Jackass movie in 3D raked in $50 million to top North American cinema earnings for the weekend, industry figures showed. The newest film from Johnny Knoxville is the first of the franchise in 3D, and beat the openings of the previous films "Jackass: The Movie" and "Jackass Number Two". The franchise began as a television show filled with gags aimed at young men. Director Robert Schwentke's action comedy "Red" landed in second place with $22.5 million. The film stars Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren. Facebook movie, "The Social Network", fell to third place, earning $11 million. "Secretariat" and "Life as We Know It" rounded out the top five, earning $9.5 million and $9.2 million, respectively. |
John Abraham claims his acting to be as good as his body Posted: 18 Oct 2010 04:38 AM PDT John Abraham has a physique that every man would love to possess, but the actor says he does not want his physical attributes to overshadow his performance, something he works equally hard at. He's happy that this trend is reversed in upcoming film "Jhoota Hi Sahi". "My physicality takes over a lot. It just preceeds over what I do. Even if I'm doing a sweet role, there is someone who would find it hot. I'm not apolegetic about the way I look, but somewhere down the line the physicality keeps coming to the forefront," John told IANS in an interview. "So I'm trying to work around a parallel road where my performances are as much seen... because I really work hard for them," he said. The actor's wish could well be fulfilled in Abbas Tyrewala's "Jhoota Hi Sahi", since he has kept his well-toned body and macho look on the back burner and plays a normal guy who works in a book store. The film is slated to hit screens Friday. "When Abbas spoke to me about the character, I was not worried about the way I would look, because I think the look completely befitted the character...I was worried about whether I would be able to carry off the look," John said. "When I saw the film, I fell in love with my character because this is probably the only film of mine where I have seen the first three minutes of the film looking at John Abraham on screen and after that I forgot that it's John and I was concentrating on only Sid (the character) and that's the victory of the character and the director," he added. To make John suit the character, director Tyrewala didn't let the 37-year-old actor gym for many months. "Abbas used to follow me to the gym, then it got too much. He used to say: get out of the gym. He said he wants a guy who is completely soft in his body, just very normal, who works in a book store. "But I wanted to gym at least a little bit because I'm an ectomorph. I have a tendency to lose weight, so I started losing weight and Abbas was very happy. When I saw the film, I hugged him and said 'thank you for not allowing me to work out'," John said. But wasn't he skeptical about changing his look for a film? "Every actor has got the fear of change and what happens is that some of us succumb to that fear and say that we want to stay within that zone that people like us in. "Some of us want to get out and take a risk, now whenever the going is good for me in terms of a look, I keep changing it and I enjoy that space. When I had long hair, people liked it a lot and a lot of people started keeping long hair but then I went ahead and changed it," John said. "So I believe that you need to take risks but calculated risks. At the same time I believe that you need to be a trendsetter and not a follower. So it's important for me to keep changing my look," added John. "Jhoota Hi Sahi" also stars Pakhi, Tyrewala's wife and the film's scriptwriter, opposite John. John was also proud of the fact that the film got a U certificate from the censor board. "This film has just got a U certificate. It's absolutely clean. It doesn't have foul language, doesn't even have a villain and it's the cleanest, most beautiful film. Even the members of the censor board said that after long, we have seen a film so clean without any double meanings," the actor said. |
Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra doesn't want to discuss her personal life online Posted: 18 Oct 2010 04:28 AM PDT After following her on Twitter, Priyanka Chopra's fans can now get a sneak peek into her world through a voice blog, voice chats and an official YouTube channel, but no "personal" talk please, the actress says and adds she is looking forward to constructive criticism of her work and style. The Bollywood actress started the Twitter craze by being one of the first celebrities to join the microblogging site. Now she has gone a step further to make her presence felt in the online world. The 28-year-old signed an agreement with UTV Interactive to launch her voice blog, voice chats and an official YouTube channel. The launch was on Wednesday. "I think it's high time that I became confident enough to say that this is me and see if you want to. People have just seen me on the big screen, but there I'm playing a character, I'm never myself. But here, it's me, it's everything that I am as a person," Priyanka told IANS in an interview. "I can talk about stuff that happened behind the scenes, on the sets, backstage or at my place, just talking about things that I find interesting. It's a way of making people know the real me," she added. However, she stresses she will blog only about things she wants to say and not about her relationships and love life. "I won't reveal everything about myself. That's the most amazing part about interacting. I can say what I want to say, but one thing that I haven't done and never will is talking about my personal life. That is something I don't believe in talking about," Priyanka maintained. And any fear of rude or vulgar responses? "If someone is being rude or vulgar, I can block him. But if it's criticism, I'm very open to it. If there is someone who tells me that I didn't like your performance or your hair, I'll ask them why. I'm interested in knowing what their perception of me is," she said. "As actors, we are constantly in a place surrounded by people who just praise you; so it's lovely to have people around you who give you a reality check," added the actress who has starred in hits like "Aitraaz", "Dostana", "Fashion" and "Kaminey". Asked how she balances her personal and professional life, after being a part of so many ventures, the actress said: "You've got to make time for it. Personal life, for me, is my family and friends. I love what I do and I've never faced a conflict between my personal and professional life, and the day I do I'll learn to balance it. But at the moment, since I've not faced a conflict I'm sure it's balanced." "I'm good at multi-tasking," explains Priyanka blithely. Priyanka, who was last seen in "Anjaana Anjaani" opposite Ranbir Kapoor, has films like "Saat Khoon Maaf", "Don 2" and "Silence" lined up for release. |
Cheryl Cole credits Hough for saving her life Posted: 18 Oct 2010 04:21 AM PDT Singer Cheryl Cole has credited choreographer Derek Hough with saving her life by forcing her to get tested for malaria. The Girls Aloud star admits she has a phobia of needles and was "really angry" with Hough for the suggestion - until doctors diagnosed her with the mosquito-borne illness, femalefirst.co.uk reported. "I'm pathetic when it comes to needles. I was actually really angry with him for suggesting I get my blood taken. For making me have a needle. Little did I know, he saved my life," she said on Piers Morgan's show "Life Stories". However, she refused to confirm rumours she and Hough are dating. She said: "This is the last time I will ever talk about my private, personal life. I'm not willing to sit here and say he's my boyfriend or he's not. I'm not prepared to deny or admit anything and I don't have to. We are very, very close. That's obvious." |
Hollywood Actress Julianne Moore was teased over hair in school Posted: 18 Oct 2010 04:15 AM PDT Actress Julianne Moore has revealed that she used to get teased by her schoolmates for having red hair. "At school I did get teased about it. You want dark or blonde hair like everybody else in the room. But I got to a place where I didn't really think about it," contactmusic.com quoted her as saying. The 49-year-old actress is married to Bart Freundlich and their two children Caleb, 12, and Liv, 8, are also following the footsteps of their mother. She said: "I have a little girl who has dark auburn hair and a little boy who has light red hair and I think it looks beautiful." |
Sachin Tendulkar makes time for a special date with Bollywood Posted: 18 Oct 2010 04:04 AM PDT After scoring his 49th Test century last week Sachin Tendulkar made a call to his buddy filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra with a request. The cricketer and his wife wanted to watch the highly-acclaimed working-class comedy "Do Dooni Chaar", which brought the Rishi Kapoor-Neetu Singh pair together again after 30 years. Sachin didn't know the film's makers and so asked Chopra, with whom he has lately been in touch, about watching "Do Dooni Chaar". As luck would have it, Chopra himself loved this little film about a mathematics professor in Delhi trying to buy a car for his family, and immediately got in touch with the film's team. |

Posted: 18 Oct 2010 03:53 AM PDT Pop diva Madonna has a new man in her life as she has been spotted kissing her choreographer after reportedly splitting with lover Jesus Luz. The "Material Girl" has been linked to the Brazilian hunk since 2008, and is alleged to have ended her romance with the 24-year-old model after enjoying a racy night out with dancer Brahim Rachiki, reports dailystar.co.uk. Saroj Khan wants Vidya Balan to dance on her tunes Posted: 18 Oct 2010 03:37 AM PDT Ace choreographer Saroj Khan, who has made actresses like Sridevi, Madhuri Dixit, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan dance to her tunes, has actress Vidya Balan on her wishlist now. "I want to make Vidya Balan dance. I like her expressions. I remember seeing her in 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', her expressions in the song 'Pal Pal' were extremely good," Saroj told reporters via video conferencing here. After a successful first season of "Nachle Ve With Saroj Khan", she is once again returning to the small screen with second season and this time choreographer Terence Lewis will be joining her. Both the choreographers will be teaching their unique style of dancing to popular television celebrities. The line-up includes Neha Marda, Naman Shaw, Shaleen Bhanot, and Jay Bhanushali among others. All the celebrities will be competing with each other every week and then ultimately battle it out in the grand finale. The show titled "Nachle Ve With Saroj and Terence" goes on air Oct 25 every Monday to Friday on Imagine TV. Asked if the advent of international dance forms like hip hop, jazz has suppressed the classical dance form, she said: "I respect all dance forms, but I blame the parents for the supression of classical dance forms because they never encouraged their kids to learn them." The 61-year-old, who has been in the industry for over two decades, also expressed her distress over the change in the kind of Bollywood dancing over the years, but is confident that the era of elegant dancing will return. "I hate those songs. In our time, actresses used to be fully covered when they used to dance, but today, you see them dancing in lesser clothes," she said. "But life is a circle, I am sure that the previous era, where actresses used to dance with elegance will return. I have signed five films now where the directors want to have choreography like that of 'Dola Re', she added. |
