What China Manufacturers are Afraid Of Posted: 12 Oct 2010 09:26 AM PDT China is becoming more and more efficient as market-oriented reforms have lowered business costs. Banking efficiency is improving. Finanical and other economic reforms are following. China’s enterprises are getting more qualified managers. In short they are becoming better companies as they learn how to make their way in the international scene. So, then what are China and her manufacturers afraid of? Doesn’t China provide cheap labor costs? Isn’t China the master at cutting costs? Who’s China afraid of? India and Vietnam come to mind. Both countries are developing their own work forces and are poised to undercut China’s labor costs. If China doesn’t provide products cheaply enough, there are two neighboring countries ready to step in. So, is China afraid? Should they be afraid? What do you think? |
Nike Sues Chinese Shoemaker for Copying Air Jordan Logo Posted: 12 Oct 2010 05:24 AM PDT Nike Inc., the world's largest sports apparel company, says they found shoes being sold in outlets in Shanghai and Ningbo that were made by Auchan and looked an awful lot like its Air Jordans. The shoes bear the logo of former Chicago Bulls star Michael Jordan dunking a basketball, the copyright for which is held by Nike. They sell for about 100 yuan ($13) a pair, much less than the Authentic Air Jordan's go for. Nike wants the Jinjiang Kangwei Shoes Co. Ltd and Jinjiang Longzhibu Shoes Co. Ltd to cease and desist making any more shoes, apologize and pay 1 million yuan in damages. Lawyers for the defense are saying the logo wasn't well known in China and the damages are unreasonable. Nike, meanwhile is being sued by Reebok for infringing on a patent covering "collapsible shoe" technology. Try saying "she sews sued shoes" ten times real fast. |
