Sri Lanka second, India third in latest ICC ODI rankings

Posted: 08 Nov 2010 11:59 PM PST

Sri Lanka jumped over India in the ICC ODI cricket ratings in the latest released rankings on Tuesday. The reason for that is the Lankan win over the top-ranked side in the ICC ODI rankings – Australia.

Sri Lanka had beaten Australia 2-1 in the ODI series. This meant that they had not only beaten a far superior side but also away from home. This gave them the necessary points to push India to the number three position.

This was Sri Lanka’s first away win against Australia.

India will need to beat New Zealand 5-0 to return back to their second position. On the other hand, a 4-1 win will make it difficult for the Indians given that they will be a few decimals behind the Sri Lankans.

South Africa is currently fourth in the ranking while England is at the fifth spot.

Both, Khwaja and Ferguson have had a good start to the season while the likes of Michael Hussey and Marcus North have struggled for form. Simon Katich has a finger injury that may take its time to recover and that could allow at least one of the two youngsters a chance to shine in the Ashes.

Thief Asks for Time-Out During Police Chase

Posted: 08 Nov 2010 07:35 PM PST

A would-be robber in the Philippines met his match when police chased him for 500 meters at full speed.

When the guy couldn't keep it up, he stopped, panted, gasped for breath and held his hand up to motion for a 'time-out.'

The police, being the polite type, obliged, then arrested him.

And just think, the dude got a head start on the coppers.

The burglar and an accomplice broke into a house and stole two high-priced celltime.out.gif phones.

Screams from residents alerted police who were on patrol who then gave chase.

When the fuzz caught up to him, he

turned and motioned for them to give him a breather.

He will have a lot of time to catch his breath now as he waits for sentencing in the local pokey.

How far can you run at full speed?

How far can you go if the police are chasing you?

Indian Doctors Go on Strike

Posted: 08 Nov 2010 03:35 PM PST

I understand the caste system and the history and all that in India. Maybe I didn’t realize just how strong it is.

in the name affirmative action, the Indian government has decided to up the ante on what percentage of the lower caste will be allowed to make up the student population at state-run medical colleges. It was 22.5%. The government wants to make it 49.5%.

About 80% of India’s 1 billion people are still at the bottom in most social indicators.

The present doctors say – no way! The government says – way!

Emergency health services in New Delhi have been hit the hardest. People who cannot afford health services are left in pain outside emergency rooms.

Huh!?

Do doctors take a different pledge in India?

Current medical students are going on hunger strikes, burning effigies and staging protests.

Is there perhaps a reader in India that can shed some light on this?

Are these students and doctors out of their mind?
