Movie Review Ramaa- The Saviour Posted: 12 Nov 2010 03:14 AM PST Every family audience in India prefers movies that target kids. But history speaks itself that Hollywood make movies for this genre & those movies are not just for kids as the movies is also liked by other category of audience like adults too. Bollywood movie RAMAA – THE SAVIOUR has stepped into pathways of Hollywood movies where in RAMAA – THE SAVIOUR, the movie is based totally on video gaming. If Bollywood starts following & delivering Hollywood style movies, it has got no full proof guarantee that movie will yield terrific results & also there is now much more pressure on RAMAA – THE SAVIOUR. Success in movies comes from strong foundation, techniques & grip over story. Most important element to get blockbuster movie is dexterous direction from director. So, after good thoughtful step, success comes well served hot in a plate! RAMAA – THE SAVIOUR has got a number of moments that can grab attention of audiences, but those are few in numbers & far between. The story of RAMAA – THE SAVIOUR revolves around 6 kids – Sameer, Rohan, Komal, Riddhi, Saanjh & Kunal. All of them play game at some recently launched VideoGame – The Last Battle – & at the same time as when they were playing the video game, they astonishingly find that they are on an isolated island. All children, while surveying the island, trapped into trouble. Vali [Khali] who is a gaint, attacks Riddhi, but Riddhi gets rescued by Saviour Ramaa [Sahil Khan]. Ramaa resides in this jungle unaided. Dangerous attack towards Riddhi comes through a boat, which is controlled by Vali with a small band of soldiers along with a scientist-assistant Samara [Tanushree Dutta]. So in brief, the tale is- fight between good & bad. It’s really toughest job when 1 makes a kid based movie & wants to get universal appeal from every audience. For success, so many ideas & techniques are used. The kids who are in the movie RAMAA – THE SAVIOUR clears their examination with good marks. But the spoiling job comes from writing section as justice to the idea, concept & the efforts devoted in the project has not yield just results. Lets begin with the explanations that, some detailed specifications were not given for the protagonist [Sahil Khan], who is simply portrayed as a mix combo of Tarzan & Conan The Barbarian. Ramaa is capable to connect through telepathy with humans & animals. We are given these details, but I wana ask then why is he living alone in the secluded island-jungle? Moreover, what actually is Vali’s [Khali] relation with Ramaa? Also, what's the reason behind their fight? Is Vali to be categorized as human/demon/spirit? Samara, role played by Tanushree is also not well written either. She initially belongs to the evil group, but shifts over to Ramaa’s side with any convincing justification. Director of the movie, Haadi Abrar deserves applause as he opted for such an innovative plot, but writing lets his work down. The action scenes by Peter Hein are the foundation of the enterprise. Mainly, the battle on the river is fantastic. Cinematography by Sejal Shah captures the forests with great expertise. Also the songs [Siddharth-Suhas], mainly the 1 that is filmed on the kids, ‘We Don’t Need’, is completely energetic. Sahil Khan completely displayed his physique amazingly. Tanushree shocked us in action scenes. She has done wonderful job. The new villain, who is Taleb, looks brutal. Khali is satisfactory. All kids are super-confident. In brief, RAMAA – THE SAVIOUR isn’t convincing at all. |
Review : Dunno Y..Na Jaane Kyon must watch for an insight into homosexuality Posted: 12 Nov 2010 02:27 AM PST
Dunno Y..Na Jaane Kyon by Sanjay Sharma is a film that will take on a revolution when it comes to movies that deal with intricate matters that are considered a taboo in the common eyes. The director talking about the movie says that the film drives away the fact that there is nothing out of the league or unnatural about loving the same gender and being a homosexual. With a flick like Dunno Y… Sanjay Sharma draws attention to the fact that the relationship between gay people is just as normal as any other relationship. It highlights the sentiments that they share and also the emotions involved in their love. This has altogether nothing to do about making a fun about the gay community; instead the issue of homosexuality is viewed in this movie from a very intense point of view rather than treating it as a light matter. Even though the topic of homosexuality has been taken up in other movies too like Fire, Girl friend and Hollywood flick Broke Back Mountain but this movie takes up a completely different shade of this issue by focusing on the male factor with two male falling into a relationship wherein one of them is a model while the other is a married man with a family. The storyline is absolutely different and the response that the audience will give to this movie is something that is truly the question as everyone likes to watch a humdrum comedy or a light romance but the courageous and socially inclined will appreciate this truth on the open curtains. |
Movie Review: A Flat resurrection of that haunted house horror Posted: 12 Nov 2010 01:34 AM PST
A Flat also belongs to the same haunted home kind of genre that most Hindi flicks focus on when taking up horror subjects. In fact the resemblance of A Flat to other haunted home movies of bollywood is so vivid that watching it will only bring back the gruesome memories of the movie Bhoot starring Urmila Matondkar which had set cinema screens asking for more horror. Seeing this one would definitely wonder if the movie was actually shot in the same place as the previous one. The appearance of the movie is similar to a lot many horror flicks under the bolly banner but the plot of the movie is altogether very different from all related movies like BHOOT, KUDRAT, VAASTU SHASTRA, 13-B and even PHOONK/PHOONK 2. The essence of a horror flick lies on the fact that the movie should bring out the anxiety and scare in audience. It should be se scary that one should be out of the life after seeing it but leaving some sequences A Flat is not what an extreme horror flick should give to the audience. One sequel that can be terrorizing as a whole will be the lift sequence with Jimmy Shergill in it which is sure a sweat shedding and nail biting sequence. Hemant Madhukar is debuting with this movie and the content of the film is not that catchy. Rahul played by actor Jimmy Shergill is the main part of the movie and the list of mishaps revolve around his presence after he comes to India from US. Rahul first looses his dad and then out of the blue his lady love disappears. The worst part is that Rahul has been blocked in his own place by a supernatural spirit who wants something from him. On the whole the movie lacks much and cannot create that horror feel which is expected out of it. |
Tees Maar Khan: 54 different voices by Sonu Nigam Posted: 11 Nov 2010 11:51 PM PST While trying different versions of a song for the new movie Tees Maar Khan by Shirish Kunder, Sonu Nigam the idea struck to get it done in 54 different voices both male and female ones and this has him in some sort of record now. The music composer Kunder had all the different voices that Sonu tried and it was extremely difficult to chose just one so. Ta La….a single song now has Sonu at his best. He is singing the song in several female voices and various accents too. Japanese, Spanish, Arabic, French and other such accents are there for you but the most that the singer enjoyed was Akshay Kumar voice that was so alike to the actor's voice that even Farah Khan couldn't decipher it according to the singer. Its no mean feat by any standards and the singer said that maintaining the consistency and pitch is a tedious job. The most amazing fact is that Sonu Nigam is doing the chorus as well as the singer and still it has come out really well. No record and other things were on their minds when the song was given twist as such as the singer tell us but he's keeping his fingers crossed with this one as its definitely a first of its kind on the silver screen yet, be it Indian or foreign. So we have a new record here which must be considered by Lima Book of records or even Guinness Book for that matter and the versatile singer that Sonu is has come up with something amazing as always. |
