'Bigg Boss 4' throws out Dolly Bindra and Sameer Soni Posted: 18 Nov 2010 03:45 AM PST Loud-mouthed and violent Dolly Bindra and the usually reticent Sameer Soni have been thrown out of Colors' reality show "Bigg Boss 4" following a serious verbal fight, and for breaking several house rules. "Dolly and Sameer have been evicted from the show by Bigg Boss himself. This step was taken after both of them repeatedly broke the house rules," a source told IANS. The two actors were caught in a major argument following a showdown between Dolly and actress Shweta Tiwari, who is the captain this week in "Bigg Boss 4". "First Dolly and Shweta started arguing because some of the housemates were late for a task. Then Sameer intervened to make Dolly shut up, and they ended up in a huge fight. They were almost on the verge of hitting each other," added the source. The incident took place Tuesday afternoon before the much-hyped entry of former "Baywatch" star Pamela Anderson. The fight will be showcased in the episode to be aired Wednesday night. Following the fight, Dolly and Sameer continued to break house rules. In fact, Sameer even refused to wear the microphone, which is compulsory for every housemate, informed the source. Dolly has been a source of controversies ever since she has stepped into the reality show. She has been embroiled in fights with almost everyone, and her company wasn't enjoyed by many. Hence, Bigg Boss decided to evict the two participants. "Bigg Boss 4" has celebrity participants locked up inside an isolated house, without any link to the outside world. They are required to stay in the house for three months under 24-hour camera surveillance, and whoever stays the longest, wins the show. |
Twinkle Khanna supervisees Akshay Kumar's clothes Posted: 18 Nov 2010 03:37 AM PST If people are talking about Akshay Kumar's more sophisticated clothes these days, it's his wife Twinkle who is designing them. "As far as dressing up my husband is concerned, yes I've been supervising his clothes a bit more nowadays. Not that Akshay is a bad dresser on his own. But you know how guys are? Left to themselves they'd just put on a white shirt over black trousers. That's playing it safe and knowing it always works. I've changed that," she said. Twinkle has apparently decided to come out of the closet to take care of Akshay's wardrobe. So far she was discreetly guiding her husband from behind the scenes, letting him into her special skills at colour co-ordination and mixing 'n' matching in fits and starts. Close friends say this is a step away from Twinkle dressing up her husband on screen as well. But she denied it saying: "No I've no such ambitions. I'm happy in my world with my husband and son (Aarav), happy to see him being the star. Happy building tables, chairs and watching homes come alive in front of me." Twinkle admits she has been dressing up her husband more adventurously lately. "Perhaps I am encouraging him to dress up more adventurously. Left to himself, he is not fashion conscious at all. It takes a woman to know what her man really looks good wearing." Incidentally, a clothes sense runs in Twinkle's family. Her late aunt Simple Kapadia used to design clothes regularly. |
Kim Kardashian condemned by PETA Posted: 18 Nov 2010 03:26 AM PST Fashion-conscious reality TV star Kim Kardashian allegedly wore two fur coats in one day -- to leave animal rights activists PETA infuriated no end. The executives at People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have criticised Kardashian for wearing a knee-length brown jacket which appeared to be made of real animal pelts and later sporting a short black fur coat. Contactmusic.com reports that PETA bosses are fuming at the star, especially as her sister Khloe stripped off to pose for the organisation's anti-fur campaign in 2008. A statement from PETA reads: "Kim Kardashian is a woman who has everything - except, it seems, an ounce of sympathy for the animals who have the fur ripped off their backs so that she can purchase yet another gaudy jacket. We wish she would take a cue from her fur-free sister, Khloe Kardashian - but evidently, kindness and generosity don't run in the family." |
Sooraj Barjatya wants to work again with Salman Khan Posted: 18 Nov 2010 03:07 AM PST Sooraj Barjatya, who is trying to take his banner forward by making different kinds of movies, says he is keen to work with Salman Khan again. The director-actor duo is known for the superhits "Maine Pyar Kiya" and "Hum Aapke Hain Koun". "I would love to make another film with Salman, but there is a little time before that happens, because I have to settle a few things in our company and in our television wings. Then I can take that up," Barjatya told IANS in an interview. "There are lots of ideas in my mind, but I need to sit down and write and give them shape," he added. The 45-year-old first wielded the megaphone in 1989 for "Maine Pyar Kiya" starring Salman and Bhagyashree. The film turned out to be lucky for all three. Later in 1994, the director and the actor teamed up again and set the cash registers ringing with "Hum Aapke Hain Koun" that had Madhuri Dixit in the female lead. But their last outing together, "Hum Saath-Saath Hain", couldn't replicate the bumper success of "Hum Aapke Hain Koun". Salman has made a special appearance in Barjatya's production venture "Isi Life Mein", set to hit the screens Dec 24. So does he consider Salman his lucky charm? "No, it's not that. We asked Salman for this cameo not because of that reason. It's just that we thought that we have all newcomers in this film, so why not take blessings from senior actors?" clarified Barjatya, whose last directorial venture was the hit film "Vivaah", starring Amrita Rao and Shahid Kapoor. "Isi Life Mein" has been helmed by debutante director Vidhi Kasliwal, who is Barjatya's niece. The film stars newcomers Sandeepa Dhar and Akshay Oberoi. It revolves around the journey of a small town girl who belongs to a traditional family and is not allowed to dream and lead a life according to her own wishes. But somehow she takes admission in a Mumbai college and meets a boy and his gang of friends, who make her believe that she has the right and the capability to accomplish her dreams. It's then that things start changing for her. Rajshri Productions is known for making family films, and Barjatya feels it's time to change the sensibilities of the banner and it has tried to achieve that with "Isi Life Mein". "For Rajshri, this film is a challenge because it takes the production house beyond what I've done. This is not what I can do; so Vidhi has helped take the banner forward. It's a change that we all have to accept to grow and be proud of and when a family member does so, it makes us feel more proud," said the filmmaker. But doesn't he feel that it's a risky proposition to make a film with all newcomers? "It is totally a risk but someone has to take a chance and fortunately we have our own marketing unit, our own distribution, and that's a great strength that Rajshri has. We don't have to sell the film, so we can take a chance. "A lot of times the film fails, but the joy of backing someone and getting those fresh energies out is great," said Barjatya. |
'Shah Rukh Bola Khoobsurat Hai Tu' is a film about faith Posted: 18 Nov 2010 02:58 AM PST Veteran theatre actor Makrand Deshpande says "Shah Rukh Bola Khoobsurat Hai Tu" is a film about faith and it came about when he started wondering what happens if a much worshipped silver screen demigod like King Khan admires a commoner. "I had seen the film 'Main Madhuri Dikshit Banna Chahti Hoon', where a person wanted to be an actor. The idea came from there. We are all devotees of our respective god; so I was in search of a human god," said Deshpande. "I felt that when Shah Rukh comes on screen, he creates that aura for his fans and thought if he goes ahead and praises any of his devotees on the road, then what happens?" Deshpande said in an interview with IANS. "Now, the roadside flower-selling girl takes Shah Rukh as god and she also believes that he will protect her. That's the whole point. The film is all about faith." Deshpande has witnessed the trajectory of Shah Rukh Khan's success since they worked together in a Doordarshan television serial "Circus", and admits that King Khan from the very beginning of his acting career had the capacity to create an aura. "My association with Shah Rukh has been so long. I have seen him from where he started and the position he has made for himself in these years. Since his television days, he had that capacity to break the screen. He was very focussed. "When he meets someone, the person feels he is enamoured of him. If someone can do that, he is a god in today's time," said Deshpande who also featured with Shah Rukh in the song "Yun hi chala chal rahi" in "Swades". All it took for Shah Rukh to agree to do the film was an SMS. "He agreed to do it in one SMS. He is there in one scene and there is one dream sequence. Otherwise, the film talks so much about him that you will not feel that Shah Rukh is not there," said Deshpande who is in his early fifties. Asked how he discovered his protagonist, Preetika Chawla, he said: "Preetika was coming out of Prithvi theatre and I told my assistants to go and ask her if she is an actor, or for just an audience and if she is interested to play the lead character of my film." "I liked her 'small girl' stature. She was going to Australia for higher studies when I told her to work with me. Now her life has changed." The director is certain that his film would find an audience though it shares the release date with director Ram Gopal Varma's second instalment of "Rakta Charitra" and the Hrithik-Aishwarya starrer "Guzaarish" Nov 19. "It will find its audience. Luckily we have a huge film audience and its not that if anyone has seen one film, he won't see the second; he will see the third also," he said. Deshpande is running the theatre group Ansh. He launcehd it in 1993 and has written, produced and directed about 30 plays, including "Chitra", "Ek Kadam Aage" and "Seema Badnam Hai". Some of his recent theatre work are "Joke" and "Poha Gone Wrong". The director is ready with his second Hindi film too. "I have also finished my second film. It's 'Miss Sundari' or 'Miss Beautiful', I don't know which title I will get finally. It's about a son and his aging parents," said Deshpande. |
Hindi Movie 'Guzaarish' Film Review Posted: 18 Nov 2010 02:50 AM PST Film: "Guzaarish"; Cast: Hrithik Roshan, Aishwarya Rai, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Monikangana Dutta, Suhel Seth; Director: Sanjay Leela Bhansali; Rating: ***** Breathe a sigh of relief. During a year when cacophonic crassness masquerading as comic entertainment has been sanctioned by critics and the masses, "Guzaarish" comes along to remind us that excellence is alive in our cinema. Ironically this wonderful work of art, nuanced and magical in its portrayal of an unstoppable spirit's quest to juice life to its fullest, is about dying. If the journey towards death in art can be so mystically explored, then let's embrace mortality as a stepping stone to immortality and a film about dying as a sign of cinema not dying on us. Not yet. Only those who suffer the numbing pain of isolation would know what it feels like. Dilip Kumar in "Devdas", Guru Dutt in "Pyasa", Meena Kumari in "Sahib Bibi Aur Ghulam" and Nutan in "Bandini" communicated to the audience the indescribable pain of solitude. Ethan, as played by Hrithik Roshan in "Guzaarish", is so bemused by adversity that he can actually look at his own suffering with dispassionate humour. "Guzaarish" is a joyous, rapturous and ecstatic celebration of life. Those familiar with the art of Sanjay Leela Bhansali know how ably and ecstatically he transports his characters into a universe of seamless drama played at an octave where most cinematic symphonies crack up and topple over into high-pitched extravagance. Not Bhansali's cinema. Played at the highest possible scale, his drama unfolds in wave after wave of rapturous splendour. His characters occupy a space that defies definition and seduces audiences into celebrating a state of sublimity and splendour. Ethan's inert physicality is alchemized into an ambience of animated joy. His spirit dances and sings at the sheer pleasure of every moment that is given to him to live. He radiates joy. We feel his profound happiness at the gift of life. No film in living memory has brought out the sheer blessing of being alive with such spirit and glory. While Shah Rukh Khan's "Devdas" in Bhansali's opulent opera was a character broken in spirit, Hrithik's Ethan in "Guzaarish" is irreparably damaged in body. But his spirit soars, his eyes light up like thousands of stars every time Sophie walks in. That Sophie is played by Aishwarya Rai is a stroke of genius that goes a long way in giving "Guzaarish" its flavour of exceptional elegance. No other director brings out the quiet grace and the understated beauty of this screen diva's personality with as much intelligence and spontaneity as Bhansali. In "Guzaarish", Aishwarya is far more delicate and nuanced in conveying the unspoken pain of a love that has no tomorrow than she was in "Devdas". Aishwarya imbues her role with a resplendent grace. Love in "Guzaarish" is expressed with subtle smirks, gentle smiles and hints of a smothered passion that could erupt any time, if only destiny didn't choose to be so mean to the spirited. The scenes between Ethan and Sophie, the backbone of Ethan's spine-challenged life, radiate an inner beauty and wisdom and underline the director's enormous understanding of the self-negation that a love relationship requires. "Guzaarish" is Bhansali's most tender and evocative film to date. It layers the pain of a dying body with the passion of an unstoppable spirit as manifested in Hrithik's skilled and effortless performance as a quadriplegic who pledges to make every moment of his limited "sau gram zindagi" pleasurable for himself an those around him. Barring Amitabh Bachchan in "Black" there has never been a better performance in a Bhansali film than Hrithik's in "Guzaarish". He grabs Ethan's role and makes the dying character come alive in delightful waves of provocative histrionics. And if we're talking chemistry between Hrithik and Aishwarya, then let's get one thing clear - this ain't "Dhoom". It's something far deeper and satisfying. The other performance that catches your attention is Aditya Roy Kapoor's. He is natural and vivacious and in-sync with the film's spirit of celebrating life. Monikangna Dutt is a looker. In her limited space, she lends some appeal to the proceedings. Suhel Seth, Shernaaz Patel and Rajit Kapur also make a lingering impact in a film that you carry home with you in an inviolable place in your heart. A word about Bhansali's music score. The songs communicate the rich tapestried emotions of lives that are determined to smile through an extraordinary tragedy. Every piece of music and song in "Guzaarish" echoes the film's incandescent soul. The film's technical excellence, particularly Sudeep Chatterjee's cinematography, is not dazzling and flamboyant in the way it was in "Devdas". In "Guzaarish", the appeal is far more delicate and subtle. The deep but sober colours on screen reach out to you to enrich your life in ways that cinema was always meant to, until it was waylaid by the hooligans and imposters posing as filmmakers. "Guzaarish" is the real thing. A big, beautiful, dazzling emotional movie experience. You won't see a better film this year. |
Deepika Padukone questions Katrina Kaif's age Posted: 18 Nov 2010 02:45 AM PST Actress Deepika Padukone says her comment on actors Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif on Karan Johar's chat show was said in good humour and that she was not targeting anyone. In fact, she would love to work with her ex-boyfriend again. "It was tongue in cheek. Everyone knows how Karan's shows are," Deepika told IANS in an exclusive interview. On the show when Karan asked Deepika what she would like to gift Ranbir, she said it would be "a pack of condoms". When asked what she would like to ask Katrina, she replied: "I would like to see her passport." The actress clarifies that giving politically correct replies would have made the show boring. "For us, Karan is not just an anchor, he is someone we know personally and professionally. I know him from even before 'Om Shanti Om' through Farah (Khan) and Shah Rukh (Khan). "Secondly, everyone knows the kind of questions he asks. It's all in good humour. It's not targeted at anybody... there is no negativity towards anyone. People need to have a sense of humour. If I go and sit quietly and be politically correct, it would have been so boring," she said. "It was a rapid fire round and whatever comes to your mind, you have to be spontaneous. If you got to be stupid and boring, there is no point. There was an iPad and a phone that I wanted, so better I play that round well," added the 24-year-old. Deepika would appear on "Koffee With Karan" with Sonam Kapoor where both win the gift hamper jointly. The episode will be telecast Sunday. "We both won actually. We both were so good that he didn't know who to give the hamper and he has given it to both of us," she said. The leggy actress, who took time to resume normal life after a break-up with her ex- boyfriend Ranbir, has realised that everyone has an inbuilt strength to fight back any adverse situation. "Everyone has strength to cope with any adverse situation like break-up, financial something. You have to identify that strength, nobody can help you. Yes, your family would be there, your friends would be there, but if you don't make up your mind that I am not allowing the situation to affect you, no one can help you come out of it. Only you can identify the strength and come out of it. It's very difficult... easier said than done... but it's possible. I am talking from experience," said Deepika. Asked if she would like to work with Ranbir again, she said: "We are more than happy to work with each other. I think 'Bachna Ae Haseeno' didn't do justice to either of us, because there were two other girls. It was a big film. It was a big star cast, I mean. I would love to do a film with him |
Sushmita Sen to celebrate 35th Birthday in Dubai Posted: 18 Nov 2010 02:42 AM PST On Friday, Bollywood actress Sushmita will turn 35 and she is planning an all-girls party in Dubai with her two daughters and mother. The former beauty queen, known for living life on her own terms, is single right now and says marriage will happen only once in her life. "It's going to be an all-girls' birthday for me this time. Three generations of Sen women all together. I'm so excited about it," she said just before leaving for Dubai. Sushmita's mom lives in Dubai and she is joining her there with her daughters Renee, whom she adopted in 2000, and Alisha, whom she brought home earlier this year. When asked about the absence of a man in her life, Sushmita laughed her throaty laughter and said: "At the moment my entire attention is on my two girls. By god's grace my elder one Renee is turning into quite an accomplished little lady. As for the newest Sen in the house, Alisha is so bright and inquisitive. My mom says I was exactly like her in my childhood." Known for being frank and forthright, the actress has been open about her relationships with director Vikram Bhatt, actor Randeep Hooda and hotelier Sanjay Narang. The next man in her life would probably be the one Sushmita marries. "I'm in no hurry. But I do know marriage will happen only once in my life. Whoever I select will be with me for keeps," said Sushmita who was crowned Miss Universe in 1994 and two years later she entered Bollywood with Mahesh Bhatt's "Dastak". But her big success came in the form of "Biwi No. 1" and she also featured opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the superhit film "Main Hoon Na". Some of her other hits are "Aankhen" and "Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?" Her forthcoming release is "No Porblem". Interestingly Sushmita plays a psychotic suspicious wife who wants to kill her husband, played by Anil Kapoor, in the film which is releasing Dec 10. "Now that's a role that could scare you off marriages forever. No, but seriously, I do believe in the institution of marriage," said Sushmita who also launched a production house called Tantra Productions. As for turning 35 with pride, she says: "Is there any point in claiming to be a few years younger? My life and career are an open book. Anyone who has followed my journey from the age that I won the crown (for Miss Universe) would know exactly how old I am." "I am very happy to tell the world I am 35 now - that is, for those who are interested in such things," said the star who also judged dance reality show "Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena" on Colors channel. |
'Bigg Boss 4' and 'Rakhi Ka Insaaf' banned on prime time Posted: 18 Nov 2010 02:33 AM PST The information and broadcasting ministry Wednesday cracked down on adult and abusive content on sensational reality shows like "Bigg Boss 4" and "Rakhi Ka Insaaf", and has asked Colors and Imagine TV respectively to telecast them only after 11 p.m. Ministry officials say the shows have "violated the programming code and ethics" with content that is not fit for family viewing. "The decision has been taken today (Wednesday) and the channels have been sent a notice to shift these programmes to a later time slot. Such shows cannot be aired before 11 p.m. and after 5 a.m. In fact, the repeat telecast can also be aired only in the same time slot," a ministry official told IANS. While "Rakhi Ka Insaaf" has been in the news ever since a young man who featured on the show died, "Bigg Boss 4" has been hogging the limelight for the use of vulgar language by Dolly Bindra and display of intimacy by its celebrity housemates Ashmit Patel and Veena Malik. Under the notice, the channels will be barred from sharing any snippets or video footage of these shows with any news channel for promotion and will be required to run a disclaimer for restrictive viewing during the show. "The content is not good for children and so these shows should be shifted to a time when kids are asleep," said the official, adding that the notice must be implemented with "immediate effect". However, officials from Imagine TV and Colors have denied receiving any notice yet, and said they will comment only once it is received. |
