Obama visit to India – Books on Obama are in great demand in the country Posted: 06 Nov 2010 05:20 AM PDT As the President of USA Barack Obama goes for an official tour to Asia's one of the fastest developing nations, India, the people there are getting crazier and crazier to have him at their homes. The people are also aware of the fact that they cannot exactly take the President himself, so they are turning to books on him, his posters, etc. A book store manager in Mumbai said, “At least 500-600 customers have been trickling in at our store asking for books on Obama". He further added, “We have already sold a good number of books such as Bob Woodward’s ‘Obama’s Wars’ and ‘Obama: The Historic Journey’.” It seems that the people want to know everything about him, so they are not leaving any stone unturned. They even are purchasing books on the US First Lady, Michelle Obama. A book store owner in Delhi, the country's capital city said, “I have received calls from many customers seeking books on Michelle Obama and her love for health and art. We have placed a request with the publisher for some 1,500 copies of ‘Michelle: A Biography’. There was a similar interest in books Laura Bush and Hilary Clinton when their husbands visited India.” So, although the craze might be for a time being, but it's really great to know that people at least are taking keen interest in knowing about their guest, thoroughly. |

China’s Super Girl – Shang Wenjie Posted: 06 Nov 2010 12:15 AM PDT Shang Wenjie’s selection as China’s "Super Girl" was reported on SINA. Shang had no previous voice training but majored in French at Fudan University. She won China’s version of "American Idol" by singing several Chinese pop songs and one French song. Shang beat out two other university students and one professional singer. Shang (middle) works for a French firm. In her first try in the contest, she failed in the first round. After persuading her boss to give her an extended vacation (she should get a prize for that) she practiced hard and made it to the top 20.
Still not wanting to give up, she went to Guangzhou to try again …and win. According to Chinese chat rooms, she did not win on her good looks, but rather on her determination, persistence and modesty…and she can sing, too. China has a new Super Girl. What do you think? |
