Dear friend, This is not a disaster relief email … nor a political campaign email. But this is an email for you to read carefully. After a vitriolic election season, it’s time to regroup and refocus our mission and priorities. Yesterday we began publishing the “It Takes a Movement” series on our God’s Politics blog – outlining the vision that Jim Wallis and Sojourners have in this post-election season. At Sojourners, we joke that we have no permanent friends, no permanent enemies. But we do have permanent issues. With a divided Congress coming into office, we’ve got a lot of work ahead of us. If you haven’t given to Sojourners recently, now’s the time. Our voice and voice are needed now more than ever! Sojourners needs your support to help us continue fulfilling our unique role: reaching across political and theological divisions to find common ground based on shared values. We have a big vision to see the faith movement for social justice make strides forward. A highly divided Congress means a greater challenge in working together. Seeing progress on the permanent issues is not just Congress’ job. It’s the challenge for all social justice Christians – it’s time for all of us to be engaged citizens. Sure, your “I voted” sticker is a proud badge, but your country needs more of your passion and energy.
We’ve got a big vision and need your partnership. Give now! Sojourners provides a prophetic witness of transformation and hope even when the political will to address the concerns of the "least of these" appears to be missing from our political leaders. As Jim Wallis reminds us, we must sustain the movement when times are hard so we can continue working for the day when victory comes. We challenge the broken cultural and political structures – structures that leave only poverty, hatred, and division behind - and inspire churches, leaders, and people like you to be a voice for reconciliation and justice. Your support of our work, at any level, is essential to our success. Please give today! Thanks for your support! Rob, Leah, and Leslie for all your friends at Sojourners |
