Angelina Jolie's sense of humour surprises Johnny Depp

Angelina Jolie's sense of humour surprises Johnny DeppActor Johnny Depp was pleasantly surprised by Angelina Jolie's "dark" sense of humour when they filmed "The Tourist" together.

The two actors are sharing the screen space for the first time and Depp admitted he was initially wary about working with her as he wasn't sure what she'd be like, reports contactmusic.com.

"Meeting her and getting to know her was a real pleasant surprise. You don't know what she might be like - if she has any sense of humour at all. I was so pleased to find that she is incredibly normal, and has a wonderfully kind of dark, perverse sense of humour," said Depp.

Although Depp loved working with Jolie, he admits they didn't spend that much time together during filming because they didn't want to bring upon themselves any unwanted attention.

Lara Dutta brand ambassador of 'Kellogg's Special K'Actress Lara Dutta, who recently launched her video CDs on yoga, was Tuesday appointed the brand ambassador of Kellogg's breakfast cereal brand Special K.

"With Special K, I know I have a low-fat breakfast option to start my day. Plus, it helps keep me full and leaves me with energy to grapple with my long day ahead. And, the best part is that I love the taste," the former Miss Universe said in a press statement.

The 32-year-old, last seen in "Housefull", says she connects well with the product.

"I can relate to the Special K woman - I enjoy the confidence that comes from loving your body, and I also try to keep a positive and simple approach to things, including managing my weight," she added.

Officials at Kellogg India, the Indian subsidiary of Kellogg Company, producer of ready-to-eat cereal and convenience foods, too said Lara is the perfect choice to endorse Special K.

"We are delighted to have Lara on board. We feel she personifies the Special K woman to the T. The Special K woman is feminine, positive, and loves the confidence that comes from the weight that she believes is right for her. She eats and exercises in a simple and balanced manner," Kellogg India managing director Sangeeta Pendurkar said.

Kiran Rao calls 'Dhobi Ghat' a film about herself

Kiran Rao calls 'Dhobi Ghat' a film about herselfDirector Kiran Rao, who has been sending hand-written post-cards to invite the media to a screening of her directorial debut "Dhobhi Ghat", says in many ways the movie is about her and her life in Mumbai.

"It is a film about four people and the city of Mumbai - four ordinary people whose lives intersect and become forever altered as they journey through longing, loneliness, loss and love... And in many ways it is a film about me, the people I've met and the life I've lived in this crazy city," Rao wrote in one of the postcards.

Just like her actor-filmmaker husband Aamir Khan, Kiran has also come out with an unique way to promote "Dhobi Ghat". She is sending postcards with information about "Dhobi Ghat" and herself to friends and media. The first one came out Nov 17.

Kiran says Mumbai is more than just a city for her and there is something special that pushed her to make the film, which is scheduled for a Jan 21 release next year.

"I came to Mumbai 12 years ago, moved house seven times and worked on eight films, found love and am seeing my dreams come true. I think it's the magic of Mumbai, my muse, my home and the season I made this film called 'Dhobi Ghat'," Kiran, who tied the knot with Bollywood star Aamir in 2005, wrote in the first postcard.

Her movie stars Aamir, Prateik Babbar, Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra and she says the city of Mumbai also plays a role in her movie.

"Mumbai is the fifth character in my film and I wanted to portray it in all its vibrancy and complexity," she wrote.

Akshay Kumar looking for a big hit

Posted: 01 Dec 2010 02:05 AM PST

Akshay Kumar looking for a big hitAkshay Kumar's last two outings - "Khatta Meetha" and "Action Replayy" - failed to make the cash registers jingle. This hasn't dampened the Bollywood star's spirit but he admits he is craving for a big hit and hopes his "Tees Maar Khan" will hit bull's eye.

"If you follow my career graph, there have been a lot of ups and downs. It doesn't matter. I am not desperate, but, yes, I crave for a big hit all the time because I work very hard. I release around four films a year. I work very hard in each and every film," Akshay told IANS in an interview.

His last release was "Action Replayy" and the 43-year-old star feels either the screenplay or his retro look in "Action Replayy" couldn't connect with the audience.

" 'Action Replayy' didn't work. It couldn't connect with the audience. I tried to reason out and I think it would be because of the look or because of the screenplay," said Akshay, who is also known for his comic timing. He tickled the funny bone with movies like "Hera Pheri", "Singh is Kinng" and "Namastey London".

Right now he is looking forward to his action-packed fun film "Tees Maar Khan", which is scheduled for a Christmas release. Director Farah Khan is presenting him as a conman.

"This is a fun character, full of enjoyment. He (the character) is a conman and so there is a lot of mischief. The character is actually very shrewd. He always tries fooling people because he wants to make it big. He never does anything himself; he makes people do things for him. I haven't done such a fun and frolic role for a long time," said Akshay.

He is known for action movies like "Khiladi" and "Mohra" and says he would love to do serious movies but regrets there are no takers for such stories.

"If you ask me whether I would like to do a serious film, yes, I would love to do serious roles, serious characters. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. No one comes to see serious films. All look for fun films.

"I have tried doing something or the other and I will keep doing it if I get a good script. There are certain types of people who don't want straight or hard-hitting films. You have to understand your audience and keep on doing something - this is what my experience tells me. I haven't done any romantic film either.

"Also, I have to understand the business...I can't do a film to satisfy myself; I have to satisfy others because I am an entertainer," said Akshay.

Undeterred by failures, the actor has big plans for next year.

"I have not given up. Next year I am doing a very high-end action film with Prabhu Deva," said Akshay.

Abhishek Bachchan says scenes in 'Khelein Hum Jee Jann Sey' gave him goosebumps

Abhishek Bachchan says scenes in 'Khelein Hum Jee Jann Sey' gave him goosebumpsAbhishek Bachchan says he got goosebumps while shooting some scenes in his first patriotic movie "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey".

"The patriotic feel that comes out during the film, I never felt something like that before. In the film, you are in the character and have that mental build up of what those guys must have thought and what will have gone through with them is very touching," Abhishek told IANS in an interview.

"There is a scene in the film where freedom fighters hoist Indian flag for the first time in the cantonment. When we did that scene, I remember that everyone had tears in their eyes and we had goosebumps. We were thinking what those guys must have felt when they actually did that? What all struggle they must have gone through? It was a different feeling altogether," he added.

Directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, "Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey" is about Chittagong uprising of 1930, spearheaded by Surjya Sen. The film has taken references from senior journalist Manini Chatterjee's book "Do And Die".

Abhishek feels it was important to bring this story on big screen as not many people know about the revolution and Surjya Sen.

"When Ashutosh told me about the film, I felt this is a story that should be told and brought to the common man. I believe that people like Surjya Sen should be spoken about in the same breadth as Chandrashekhar Azad and Bhagat Singh," said the actor, who did not know about the event himself till the director approached him with the script.

Slated to hit screens Dec 3, the film was shot majorly in Sawantwadi in North Goa.

Abhishek didn't have any difficulty in playing the character.

"No, not really. In fact, on a weird level it's almost easier because you work in a very definite framework. Because it's filmmaking, it's wonderful because you get transported to a different time. The environment is such that it's a lot easier to get into the character," he revealed.

But recreating Surjya Sen's look was not easy because of lack of photographs.

"The film is based on a book, which gives a very detailed account of the uprising. So we have stuck to that book, author's interpretation and research. Then we did recce of Calcutta. Went to the Surjya Sen Bhawan where a lot of information is available," Abhishek said.

"But unfortunately there is not much photographic evidence. There is no video footage. So in terms of physicality, it was difficult to recreate him because we didn't have enough reference. So we had to build ourselves," said Abhishek, who is seen in a kurta and dhoti in the promos of the film.

When asked whether he takes a different approach while doing a lighter film like "Dostana", he said: "Approach is exactly the same. Focus and professionalism is important everywhere. You can't take one film seriously and the other not. I worked very hard for 'Dostana' too. You can't afford to work less harder."
